Disney Fairytale Designer Collection - Heroes & villains collection 2016
There's a distinct irony to the fact with every price hike Disney hoists on us, the product quality sees a *drop*. It makes me so angry, every year hearing new stories of how they've failed their most loyal customers :( And I hadn't heard about that Aladdin platinum set missing the earrings! That's appalling! For that price (like 80% of that was pure profit) and with such a tiny amount made, there is literally NO EXCUSE not to individually inspect each and every one before putting them up for sale.

I hope lots of people who went out for Alice today got good sets, and that most flaws are easily correctable.

Man that sucks to hear about all the quality control issues :(. Its really aggrivating and annoying how Disney continues to treat these collectibles. If you are paying THAT much money for a collectible, then you should expect the quality to match the price.

I did go to my store today and seen all the dolls in person finally. The Alice and Queen of Hearts set was lovely and I do still want it, but I figured I should save my money for now. Perhaps the most shocking thing was that they had what seemed like six or seven sets, and I believe only two of them were actually sold. To add to that, they STILL had five Cinderella and Belle sets. They even had a freaking 17" Jasmine doll for sale! It was pretty crazy. It sucks that this line isn't selling that much, but it also means that it should be pretty easy to get the set later on (maybe on my next one or two paychecks).

Yes I saw the Aladdin set on ebay, the seller was from France they were selling it as a one of a kind, I guess it would be, but it just shows the quality control they have.

I am seriously glad this collection has been such a dud. The office cold finally caught up with me over the weekend, and I've missed 2 days of work so far this week. At the time I should have been headed to the mall for the raffle, I was sound asleep. I didn't have the energy to stand around the mall anyway. So I waited until almost 2, called the store, and found out they had PLENTY of Alice sets left. I got my dad to drive me over. The store was blissfully empty, and the CMs told me I could inspect as many sets as I wanted. The first set actually looked great, so I bought it and went home. I'm sure they'll have sets for a while (they still have Cindy, although Belle finally sold out), but I won't have another chance to get there until the weekend and I was darned if I was going to miss the ONE stinkin' designer doll I've ever wanted. I'm glad that's over. Sorry to hear about all the problems people have been encountering ...

Oh I am so furious right now!:rant: I am just now noticing that one of Alice's curls is cut off too short. You can see where was very sloppily lopped off. I opened the box again and tried to stretch it out a bit and yeah, it is half the length of the other one. And I found the Queen has another black paint spot on her ear and that the slip cover is not even put together properly-- you can see the side art work in the front panel.. I am considering writing to guest services to complain, this is ridiculous. I don't even want to look at these dolls now, I am so upset. I am considering trying to order another one tonight online but who knows what I'll get. I really don't have the money to get another one, and I feel like it will be rewarding the company by spending even more money on their crappy products. :(

I completely understand, I am annoyed myself at the moment because I picked up my Alice and Queen today and my set is a bit of a mess. They made us pay first before we could look at them and then they'd only let us look at one additional one if there was an issue with it. (The rules at my store change from doll release to doll release depending on who is working that day, so you never know what to expect).

Well, both the one they originally gave me and the next one they showed me had multiple problems. I chose the "better" one but still, the Queen has two paint spots on her face and the cardboard backing looks like it was chewed up by a dog. And the slip cover is bent at the top. In addition, Alice's dress was messed up and the Queen's eyelashes were smushed into her eyes, but I opened the case and those were an easy fix.

What I am most annoyed about it is that they make you pay for this very expensive item before looking at it and then tell you that you can't return it even if it is damaged because it is LE. And it looked like they had more dolls than people who wanted them, so the entire situation makes me doubly angry. If I hadn't already paid, I would have just said forget it, keep your stupid damaged dolls. It's just a shame because the Alice set is my favorite out of the entire DFDC line this year.

Okay, sorry for MY rant. Ugh, it makes me so angry sometimes the way the DS store treats its customers! If they just had better quality control in the first place, then collectors wouldn't have to keep asking to look at additional dolls. Unfortunately, it is not just the DFDC dolls that have quality control issues, the 17" line has its problems too. I apologize if I am being too negative. I am very happy for everyone who got their dolls today, but honestly, this is not the first time this year that I have wondered whether the disappointment and aggravation of collecting these dolls is worth it. I still think the dolls are beautiful and I like having them---I still want to get the new and upcoming ones, but I'm getting burnt out with the stress it causes at every release. I collect other dolls besides Disney, and with those, there is never this much hassle, so it is simply more enjoyable.

I'm sorry >__< you're so right to be this upset, I don't collect many things and to buy something that expensive with this lack of quality control is really frustrating and not fair at all.

Oh Gosh! amm3, Micks, and Dr. Woozle, That all sounds horrible, I have noticed that since Disney has upped the amount of dolls and the demand has grown they have been making more mistakes, but then I don't even know if the size of the release is the issue because I saw they even messed up a platinum Aladdin Wedding Set and Jasmine didn't have earrings on one.

I always hate holding my breath waiting for a doll to arrive to find out if it's been smashed or it has a mistake. I used to order at least 2 17" dolls because one would always arrive damaged but since they limited it to 1, which has cut down on scalping but has made it harder and more expensive to collect a quality doll. I would be very upset If I were actually able to pick up a doll in person but then not even be able to pick the one I want, I can see why you guys are frustrated.

I would've been so angry to receive something that pricey (and with a super low number) missing something, it's absurd. Disney need to step up with the quality control and the site management (lately they screwed up so much, here in Italy we couldn't even get a single 17" Belle, the site went up at 9:03 and everything was already sold out, I know some collectors who collect these dolls from the very start and that never happened, I'm really worried for future releases).

I don’t think I’m going to buy any more DFDC sets either. I‘m really on the fence about ordering the Alice set because my Lady Tremaine came with lopsided hair. Last year, my Snow White had hair gel on her face and flyaways. Luckily, I was able to fix those issues. For the high prices that Disney charges, I should not have to fix anything. I can deal with minor imperfections, but I want my dolls to look nice on display. Is that too much to ask?

I feel ya :( Don't even let me talk about my Snow White, she had so much hair gel on her face, it was hilarious. And that was the first time I've ever opened a designer box and I almost messed it up bad, we shouldn't even concerned to fix anything about something we bought, like wtf??

You know what I think? They should have remade those gold plaques with the right name for the Queen of Hearts, but they only care about the money, it's a bit sad =(

I think it is because there are more collectors this year.. and the more people try to buy the same thing the website cannot handle it thats why you have problem with purchasing online. Years ago there wasnt much now every month there are new collectors. And scalpers bring in friends to buy one doll each thats making it worst. Im fine with lots of collectors..it makes my dolls more special...but scalpers bringing in people to purchase dolls is what irks me because real collectors could miss out on these dolls

You should make a trip back to your Disney Store and demand a refund. Make a big stink if you have to. Explain how unacceptable it is to have spent so much money on something that is low quality. I know this might be a bit awkward since you said the management and CMs know you at your store but you gotta do what you gotta do. Who knows? If they see how upset you are, they might be more accommodating since you're a regular. I know the DS LE policy is no returns but I have witnessed returns on these items before despite this policy. DS is all about "just say yes" believe it or not.

Yeah, I tried calling the store several times this evening to speak to a manager, but no one would answer the phone. I am going to try again tomorrow. I don't want to have to travel to the store again unless I know for certain they are going to give me my money back. I spent $40 in transportation today just to get to the store to get these dolls. I am having back pain at the moment (I'm practically bent over in half and can't walk or take public transportation) so I had to take a taxi both ways. I don't have a car. So I don't want to waste a trip there for nothing if they won't help.

I also sent an email to guest services with photos of everything in case the store won't help me. I really just want my money back if they are unable to give me another one. I was actually going to accept the damage, I even entertained the thought of deboxing for the first time, but then I saw that half of the curl cut off and that just pushed me over the edge. LOL. Final straw and all that...

Sorry to hear you are sick but glad that you were able to get your dolls. Hopefully I can go to my store this weekend. I had class tonight and couldn't miss it. As I had to miss last Thursday, due to work. Which was excused but I can't miss that many in total. If I'd gone to the store, that would have been it for me today.

I got my set. It's really lovely but I had to choose from two because of a major issue with the first one (a several inch long, thick white thread or seam sticking out diagonally from the Queen's collar in a really distracting way), when normally, I find the first one they show me acceptable (not perfect though, there's usually always a little something imperfect with Disney LE stuff, sadly, but I can deal with imperfect so long as it's not extremely distracting). So, I agree that the QA might be going further down hill.

My store was busy AGAIN (just my luck I get the busy store), but for the first time they had exactly as many dolls as customers (rather than more customers) so everyone got a set. Anyone who missed the raffle was out of luck though.

Anyway, this set is just gorgeous and I'm very pleased with it as with the previous two releases (and last year's. I love Heroes Vs. Villains!) I know next release is the end of the line, but I feel ok about it. The lack of merch this year was a disappointment, but the detail of these sets is so lovely and I really think they add to my last year's sets. Personally, I love these and their drama much more than the couples and feel they represent the story more (not that I dislike the couples sets). I am not ever just looking for pretty, I'm looking for symbolic and this is (soon will be "was") a wonderfully symbolic AND beautiful LE Disney series. Also I know others here see it differently, but I feel I get good bang for my display space by having two key characters displayed in a case smaller than one 17" doll would be, and I like these hard cases better than the 17" ones (though I will agree there are sometimes crowding issues in how they position them).

In two weeks I hope to get my final set (I will then have ALL the Heroes vs. Villains sets) :bigthumb:and I already feel I will put my metaphorical feet up with major satisfaction. I'm going to have a wall shelf made to display them all along the same wall. (I haven't decided yet whether I'll have another one above it for their covers, which are also very beautiful).

Many times lines end or change suddenly in a way that feels jarringly incomplete or insulting, but with this ending I feel good, so at least they've done this well. except the merch, they really should have at least had pins, mugs, and journals!

Same thing happened to me like the 17" Belle release. Two charges (or authorizations) without a valid order. It said my bill address doesn't match just like last time... So, I have to purchase it on Ebay or other place... Sign...

Oh gosh! That stinks! Ebay prices are really high right now too. What makes me the most angry is some people are charging $50 and $60 to ship 1 doll. It does not cost that much to ship those dolls, I have asked a couple sellers if they would charge what shipping costs and they tell me the price for shipping is for the packing, driving and insurance for the doll, ebay fees. Shipping shouldn't be more than $35 for these dolls just remember that, there are some bad sellers on there.

@ cxn4689: try calling the Disney Store; it works, I did it too, and it will be cheaper than eBay! You can place an order via the phone!

So, I called the store today and was able to talk to a manager. I explained how unhappy I was with the set I was given and that I didn't think it was fair I was made to pay for something I was not allowed to see first. Thankfully the manager I spoke to was very nice and reasonable. I was told they still had two Alice sets left and I could come in to exchange or else get my money back on the damaged set. I won't be able to go back to the store until tomorrow but I am so relieved now. I don't know what kind of shape the Alice sets are in but at the very least I can get my money back. If the dolls they have are good then I will exchange and cancel the online order I made last night.

I think I'll just wait since the Alice Set is still available online.

My card's money is frozen by pending authorizations... I'll have to wait for the releasing of these money.

Boy all these issues are making me rethink pre-ordering all those dolls. I am really considering cancelling my order.

I just figured out that DS.com has enhanced their processing system to do AVS (Address Verification System). Since Chinese VISA/Master card doesn't support AVS, that's why I can successfully place order last year but can't do it this year...

Amm3: have you tried uber or lyft? Instead of a yaxi?

Maybe shipping off ebay is expensive because of all the protection that is used? Plus eBay takes 10% of what you charge for shipping too.

Ebay takes 10% of the total of your sale if you charge shipping they including the shipping charges in the total you sold the item for, so there is no extra 10% taken for shipping. There is no cost for the protection insurance ect all of that is provided by USPS or whatever shipping service you use, ebays protection covers all buyers at no cost to the seller except for the 10%. There is no need for sellers to charge $60 shipping on a doll LE or Designer. I have sold many dolls on ebay and $35 on an LE doll will get you up to $500 insurance and signature confirmation. Buyers that charge outrageous amounts for shipping are scalpers and people should avoid buying from them.
If a seller is worried about getting overcharged for shipping they can state in their listing they will refund any unused shipping charges,
I have done that and I refund even .50 if it's unused. My buyers appreciate it.

I got a chance to order an Alice Designer Set, just keeping my fingers crossed that when it arrives it doesn't have any huge flaws. Many of you have me bit worried

How do you get a 35$ shipping quote including insurrance to ship a doll within the US? I ship out of Vermont and if I want to ship to California it can cost me up to 40$ without the extra insurrance. Let me know how you do it because I would really like to save up on shipping. I lose a lot of sales because prospective buyers get turned off with the shipping fees.

I've been reading all the posts about these designer dolls and the quality control issues people have been having. However, I've also been reading that people think that Disney has done a great job on this designer set. People were saying that the last few waves were not that good and it looked like Disney was trying to produce a set that could compare to the first fairytale couples quality. For those of you who got the sets what is your general opinion? I'm really torn between keeping my order or cancelling it. I know I should be making a decision of my own but I don't have the sets in front of me so I am relying on your impressions :)

eBay charges 10% of the total amount paid by the buyer (so whatever the item sold for + shipping). So, if a doll sold for $120 + $60 shipping, ebay will take $18 off of that for fees. PayPal will take 3% of $180 for it's fees (well 2.9% + $0.35).

I have heard people claim they can ship a LE doll for $35 or less through Fed-Ex or UPS, but that's because they are using their employer's Fed-Ex or UPS account, which has a discount built in for volume. If a regular person were to go to the FedEx store or the UPS store, it's going to cost $50 to ship (minimum) a 12" Designer Doll set of two dolls, with insurance for $500, if the item is properly packaged. The doll + proper packaging is going to weigh about 5-6 pounds. The 17" LE will weigh 7-9 pounds. Again, this is assuming proper packaging.

Then, if you want to ship priority mail, it should go as a large package. From CA to the East Coast, it can either go priority mail or standard shipping (fourth class mail), now called USPS retail ground. If you don't have a knowledgeable mail person who doesn't measure the package, it might be able to go through as a standard sized package, in which case postage will be less.

USPS retail ground
will cost $30-35 (depending on whether you want signature confirmation) but that's the slowest mail possible and I don't think the post office tracks it at each office it goes through.
