Is it normal to want to stop collecting pins because you feel so overwhelmed or that you feel that you can't keep up? I know I am new here but I have been collecting since 2000 and recently I feel overwhelmed, and that I won't be able to keep my collection up. I know I could stop it's just sometimes I feel like this. Is it normal? Just wondering if other people feel the same sometimes.:hs:
 
Your collection is probably right where it should be. Choose your most wanted and go after them. JMO
 
I've got a small selection of characters I collect, so I don't really feel overwhelmed. However, there are some days when I look at my collection and think to myself... what the heck am I doing???

But then there are plenty more days when I think about them fondly, wonder about how to display them, and remember the happy times when I got them. It makes it all worth it
 
Thank you you're probably right that my collection is right where it should be. I just get overwhelmed sometimes I try really hard to narrow out my most wants but when you collect a lot of different things it can get frustrating.
 
I started collecting pins in 1999 when WDW started the Millennium Coutndown series. Then when I moved to Orlando in 2001 and started working for Disney, I joined the pin craze and would buy or trade for every new limited edition or surprise pin that came out..... After a few years it became too overwhelming for me as well. I would stop looking for a few months, but then a cast member pin event would take place and I would get right back into it.

After fourteen years of collecting on and off, it's fun to go open the two big Tupperware bins I have all my pin albums in, and look at the pins I've collected through the years and remember the memories of attaining them..... I'm sure the same will happen with you, after taking a break from collecting them. At some point they suck you back in!
 
I collect Tangled and I sometimes do dislike the overload of releases. Especially when the WDI set came out together with all the other releases (DS, DSF, etc...). It's not abnormal, sometimes the overload just ruins it.
 
As a long time collector, with many many collections, I have certainly had my moments of "what am I doing?" Should I go after this pin, but those pins are really popular, do I want to get into that while I can. Focus on new series, focus on older stuff, give up collections, start new ones. But pin collecting is an area, where as long as you focus on what your heart wants, and you can afford, you can't go wrong. There will always be pins that got away, but mostly they just multiply out of control no matter what you do. "Keeping up" is really only for those that have unlimited funds, or collections that are so focused, that there aren't that many new releases. The rest of us are just managing the best we can.

But giving up is not the answer. I ignored the internet part of pin collecting from about 2006-2010, and just bought what I could when traveling. There were many pins I missed, that I now regret because I didn't know about them. Even after refocusing for 4 years now, that era is still where the biggest holes in my collection are. Staying informed does give that "there's too much" feeling, but it also allows you an opportunity to take an initial shot at prioritizing.
 
pin collecting is meant to be a marathon and not a sprint. I have pins I have been looking for over 10 years now and I am just now getting some of them. It is okay to not have them all and not have them all as soon as they come out. The thrill of the hunt is a big thing.

I've only been collecting for going on three years but I have phases where I am really into collecting pins and then I needed a break. I just look at my collections and think "I'll never complete them." So I step back for a few months and that seems to help. So yes, its totally normal.
 

That's also one of my favorite things to do is bring out my huge storage bins and look through all of my pins and reminisce. Thank you :wavey: They always have away of getting you to come back. :lol:

I too dislike the overload of releases its like there pulling you left and right. I'm glad that am not the only one! I agree the overload of all of it does ruin it.

I totally feel the same way which pin do I want to go after or should I focus on this or that. I really appreciate you telling me to not give up, it really means a lot to me because I have had people tell me it's a lost cause and that would make me feel like "hey maybe their right" but I kept going and am ever so grateful I did. And your kind words really mean a lot, I have many pins I regret missing as well. I guess that's why I feel like this because am constantly in the know and that's really not a bad thing. But you're right it does give you a heads up and allows your collection to grow. Thank you:wavey:
 

I agree it's a lifetime marathon :lol: thank you for saying that because some days I feel like I'll never find that one pin I need, but things do work in mysterious ways. You're definitely right the hunt is the best part. I'll never forget I spent a whole day at disneyland looking for one pin to complete my set and it was the most fun I ever had even if I never found it. It was more about the chase and thrill of asking people to see there lanyards and meeting new people and cast members.
 

I think that stepping back or taking a break is the best thing to do when you're overwhelmed. I feel like that as well that my collection will never be completed. (I guess kind of like Disneyland) :lol: glad that it's normal.
 
You know.....I have been feeling the same way lately. I've been collecting since early 2000 also and I have gotten some very rare older pins along the way but with all the new collectors out there they don't want to trade for the older pins, they only want the new super low LE pins. Kinda turns you off from wanting to trade anymore plus with pinpics the way it is now and most people not trading on it anymore it's really hard to make any trades. I've really been doing some hard thinking lately about just giving it all up and selling my whole collection. My wife keeps talking me out of it but I still think about doing it everyday.

I've been in it since April 2000. I'm still looking for pins from 2000...lol Patience is the key. There is no rush, the pins aren't going any where. It might take a while for the pin you want to find you, but it will.

As David said, it's taken me over a decade to get a pin that I wanted, but it's happened and the feeling was still the same. I still, even after a year or 2 of getting the pin, still feel that same thrill as the day I found it!!

It's so hard sometimes to find older pins when you have a sea of new ones. (Not that there's anything wrong with that) it's just sad and frustrating especially when no one wants to trade. I know I use to love Pinpics but know it's totally different and difficult. I know a lot of close friends that regret selling there collections. Trust me you'll want to keep it it's okay to think about doing it I do sometimes too.
 

A lot of patience is definitely need for sure. Very true I usually find the pin I want or need when I'm not looking, rushing, or stop looking. I find that very funny it seems it happens all the time. That feeling definitely stays with you for a long time, I think that's why I keep collecting it's like a high when I get that one pin or set, Its such an awesome feeling.
