They definitely would be a help! I mean, you could almost set up a system of hashtags even to categorize the pins, since that seems to be a popular method of organization on social media.

@coblj003, I never would have expected an NBC theme for that Seurat. How neat!

@Jabberwoky, I also would have never expected that Lady and the Tramp on the Fragonard Swing. I bet that wasn't necessarily part of their concept art for the movie! :lol:

Agree with everyone's thoughts that some of the older pins, which are often of very high quality have been forgotten or overlooked in the past few years.

As a response to that last bit, it turns out that DLRP had an event called "Pin'Art", that was very classic art themed.

is a take off of Mogdiliani's painting of Jeanne Hebuterne, his common law wife. Below is the portrait. Note how the hands are in the same positions, and she is sitting in the same position in the chair...

This is from a series I really like: totally consider this pin one of my grails.

That would go hand in hand with the "Modistitchiani". Thank you! I knew I had see the portrait before, I just kept forgetting who did it!

And loooove the french travel posters! That actually reminds me of some of my favorite pins, the "Vintage poster series" 62099, 62100, 62101, 62102, 62103 & 62104), which go hand in hand with classic French posters:



They're almost like Cabaret posters in their art style, and I wonder if the Marie is supposed to be a play on the Chat Noir poster:
(okay maybe not, but it may have served as inspiration. It would be cool if there was a Chat Noir Disney pin.)

The thought occurred to me today that there aren't any disney Britto-style pins, which is surprising since Britto has an entire Disney line. For those of you who don't know what Britto is, here's an example:

Another interesting tidbit....

Maybe some members know of Matisse and his famous 'cut outs' that he worked on at the end of his life....there's a fabulous show at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC through mid-February if you're anywhere nearby. It is called Nuit de Noël. 1952 pictured below. It is one of the pieces from the show; the size is gigantic, like a large stained glass window from a church!



So, you're asking....how does this relate to Disney Pins....

I never knew this was a take on a Mondrian piece of art. I thought it was a take on the Partridge family bus...

I had never heard of that bus! Thanks for sharing. And yes! The two are very similar. I'm guessing the Mondrian came first though?

(Also, I'm actually thinking about crocheting a blanket of that painting. I think it would be really cool! *since I have no hope of trying to do a Starry Night pattern* *maybe I'll do that as a quilt one day* *maybe*)

Very interesting! Your mention of the stained glass window had me thinking about a topic earlier discussed in this tread but which we haven't talked about a lot: Art Nouveau. And in particular, this pin: Pin33043, Disney Auctions (P.I.N.S) Art Nouveau (Ariel)



Now, this isn't the only Art Nouveau pin out there. There are maaaaaaany. And frankly, Art Nouveau pins would be what I would collect if they were not so darn expensive. But it's probably my favorite style of art, and as time progresses I'll probably stick more and more pieces up on this thread.

But anyways, this particular ariel reminded me of a Czech painter named Alphonse Mucha, and his work "Dance"



Do I think that they were directly inspired? No. There might actually be even better art Nouveau pieces that fit this ariel pin. But here's a side-by side comparison where the subjects in the pin and the art style are in similar poses. (I would imagine that not many of the Art Nouveau pins are directly related to specific works besides that Klimt that CCofRR13 mentioned. But please correct me if I'm wrong! That's one of the purposes of this thread. )
