Disney Soda Fountain becoming Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Disney Studio Store?!
While this announcement is probably causing a lot of uncertainty among us pin traders, let's not forget that the people who have had to put up with us are now facing uncertain futures. So let's hope they all find new, higher paying jobs.

THIS TIMES A MILLION. That sucks they all lost their jobs (if it is true) and we all hope that you all get good jobs fast! Most CMs there (have only encountered one bad one!) are super nice and accommodating to all our crazy-ness as a community.

Hope the pins continue. I like Ghiradelli, they're hot chocolate is great, but their ice cream is too rich for my taste. I met the actual family members at the DCA store. They were kind of rude and snobby when I was standing near the door and they wanted to take a photo.

I agree. I wish them all the best. It will seem weird not seeing the regular staff that we have been working with. Hey Dorcy......big hugs.

I'm sure we'll see some familiar faces once they reopen in November; many companies use these shifts in business to clean house. Employees will be asked to reapply and management will choose a new team from those individuals that are deemed a good fit for the new team. Those 'less stellar' employees will be not be rehired.

This is an easy way for them to release a bunch of people without legal recourse. Sometimes, companies even rehire employees at a lower salary!

It's sad and shady and unfortunately, it happens a lot.

Ghirardelli Chocolate will partner with The Walt Disney Company to feature a specially created sundae treat for the opening of the new Disney animated movie “Frozen†this November. In future months, Ghirardelli Chocolate will create original ice cream sundaes for select film releases, providing El Capitan moviegoers with a unique Ghirardelli experience. In continuing with this partnership, the new soda fountain and chocolate shop joins the existing Disney Studio Store which offers an assortment of classic Disney character souvenirs, merchandise from current film releases playing at El Capitan Theatre, highly sought after collectible pins, and a large selection of Blu-Ray and DVD home entertainment.

That sounds like all they're doing is adding Ghirardelli to the ice cream / food part and keeping the studio store as is....they're just adding and making the ice cream a name brand that fits more with Disney. PTDs might be gone, but as a studio store they can easily say, well we have a Pin Trader Delight and this is how it works. So it might be just Ghirardelli sundaes with Disney pins :)

Pins are sold by the Disney Studio Store.
I couldn't have said it better. They are taking over the mediocre food part and the Disney Studio Store remains the same as always. PinHunters are smart fellows.

Oh man, what if they do a Chocolate Lovers Delight, or CLD, and they give you a pin when you buy a 16oz bag/bar of chocolate or larger? I know what EVERYONE I know is getting for Christmas because my belt doesn't have many more holes to go...

Yeah, when I read it I saw they were just taking over the Soda Fountain part and Studio Store would remain the same. People were talking like they were taking over everything and it confused me a little and I thought maybe I read it wrong, but I didn't.

Wait wait... They are closing after the sept 27 thing and not back until November????

no DSF in October????? Darn it. Well, thats ok. A break from DSF might be nice. Gonna have to adjust our Lingo... Once we know the full name of the new store/shop.

I think I read the closing date is on or around the 27th. Which means they could still sell the Best Friends pin on the 28th but maybe they won't sell ice cream that day... who knows?

I suggest we begin referring to the new location as Disney Studio Store (DSS). :D

Does that mean that DSF pins will increase in value??

Straight from DSF Facebook:

The Disney Studio Store will proudly continue our pin releases and our pin events. Ghirardelli will continue many of the Store’s popular traditions, including the fabulous ‘Pin Trader's Delight Sundae’, and they plan to expand the program to include more sundaes to give pin traders a choice of any of the sundaes on their world class menu.

Sweet!

Even though I agree with Mark about their ice cream being too rich (and I also find their milk chocolate too sweet) I like the idea of more sundae options.

If the employees were given two weeks that would mean the last day would be the 29th or so right? Once we find out for sure anyone down for a PTD marathon that last day?

I just got off the phone with someone at DSF. The scoop is that they closed early yesterday to talk to the employees. Everyone was given notice that they were being let go. The only people being kept on are Ed, Theresa and Adi. Pins will still be sold and overseen by Ed, Theresa and Adi when the store reopens. Was told that during the month of October, any pins coming out will be sold at the theatre. PTD's will still be sold once store is reopened. Hope this info. helps.

So we still get regular release pins (just have to pay for them at the theater registers) and PTD'd will probably be on hiatus until it reopens. You know they will open in time for the holiday shopping season. Not super thrilled it's the same staff doing pins, maybe a freshen up would be nice. I also hope they hire back some of the regular staff. People like Dwayne, Arturo, Dorsey, James, Joey (the girl) etc are all great. Always friendly and quick with the ice cream scooper. They do need to fix the leaking issues, too much insider info getting spilled. Maybe if it becomes more popular we can get them to up the edition sizes to 750 and do 2 per person for 375 people. 1 per person is nice to give all a chance but it's just driving the price up higher because there are less for trade from traders and the people benefitting are people with larger families or resellers that hire.

I am able to finally make it for the 28th release so I hope they will still have it...My first one, Yay! Just a question though for being a newbie...Is this going to be a scary for me? lol
