Disney Store Limited Edition Dolls - 12" and Designer - 2017
Do we know if there will be any corresponding merchandise? Or only the dolls? Personally I'm hoping for Belle and Rapunzel for the usual suspects. With Tiana and Jasmine surprising everyone with being included.

We really don't know anything at all, this is all just speculation. The last designer line (good vs evil part 2) had no merchandise to go along with it, so I'm guessing it will be the same for this upcoming one...though I wouldn't mind being surprised, as I do miss the mugs and journals, the artwork on them is just beautiful and they were a good way for people who couldn't afford or get the dolls to be "in" on the fairytale designer line.

Yeah I really hope that we get SOMETHING to go along with the designer dolls this year. I'm still sad that we didn't get anything for last years collection, especially considering that the artwork for the doll sets was the best it has ever been.

Disney Designer Collection: Formerly known as the Disney Fairytale Designer Collection, the Disney Designer Collection takes the classic assortment beyond the fairytale to tell the iconic stories of Disney’s legacy of film history and introduces three series: Fairytale Series, Folktale Series, and Pixar Animation Studios Series.

Three of the new Limited Edition dolls will be available for purchase:

Fairytale Series: Pinocchio (limited to an edition size of 1,023)

Folktale Series: Mulan (limited to an edition size of 523)

Pixar Animation Studios Series: The Incredibles (limited to an edition size of 1,023)

D23 Expo attendees can also preview and pre-purchase a set of the five limited edition dolls releasing at Disney Store locations and DisneyStore.com September–November (each limited to an edition size of 6,000):

Fairytale Series: The Little Mermaid, Tangled, Robin Hood

Folktale Series: Moana, One Hundred and One Dalmatians

It looks like from the description that Mulan and The Blue Fairy are both D23 exclusive and not variants. That's gonna drive the price of those waayyyy up.

Yeah I am really disappointed that Disney decided to make Mulan and the Blue Fairy exclusives instead of variants. Those were literally the only two I wanted, so my excitement for this wave has really died down a lot. I was also hoping to see some kind of Hercules set where it's the 20th anniversary of that movie this year.

On the bright side, FLIPPIN ROBIN HOOD AND MAID MARIAN!?!?!?!? WHAT!?!?!? Plus a new Cruella doll on top of that!? That is so amazing to me, and this is easily the most unique line up I think we have ever gotten for the Designer Collection in regards to it's theme. I like that they have split it up into folklore and fairytales!

Considering that the Blue Fairy and Mulan designer dolls are exclusives to D23 instead of being variants like in the past, I REALLY hope that the rumored 17" Mulan isn't an exclusive either! That would be a horrendous slap in the face to all of us that have asked for one for so long.

Heyas thought this would be of interest. From the d23 site:

Make sure to leave some room in your suitcase! Disney Store is launching new collections, limited-edition sets, and more never-before-seen items that will make their debut on the D23 Expo 2017 show floor. With more than 5,000 square feet of space, there’s lots to see and shop! Here’s a taste of what you can expect:

Technically I would classify Robin Hood even though it's a classic, as more of a folk tale than a fairy tale. I guess it's all realative, and I am a stickler for semantics.

also didn't realise this info was in another thread already. Doh.

I hope they can do justice to King Triton! Please don't make him small and scrawny Disney. Please. That is the set I have been saying I have wanted for YEARS now, so I am beyond excited. Can't wait to see the dolls!

Thank goodness I'm not the only one! Honestly, my first thought reading the news was, "wait, that's not a fairytale..." followed very quickly by, "and 101 Dalmatians is not a folktale!"

Because I'm a big ol' curmudgeon apparently.

I hope I'm not the only one who's incredibly disappointed with this lineup. Out of these seven different sets, all but two of them are characters we've gotten before, and out of the two of them that are new, one of them, the Blue Fairy, is a D23 exclusive.

I really can't wrap my head around this lineup of characters and why they were chosen...let's just go over each of them, shall we?

Moana - To me, this is the worst one and the most waste of a "slot" so to say. Why would they make another LE Moana already? With this new one that makes THREE LE Moana dolls in less than a year. The first two didn't even sell that well (my Disney Store still has both of them in stock) and not only that, but zooming in on that picture she looks nearly identical to the first doll! Obviously we can't see it too clearly but that is the same outfit with no major changes whatsoever, anything different I'm imaging will be very small. What's gonna make this one different, little kakamora figurines around the doll? Sigh.

Rapunzel and Flynn - At first I hated this decision too just because of how many Rapunzel dolls we've gotten already...the one for the movie release, the designer princess one, the one with Flynn, the one with Gothel, the wedding one...making this the SIXTH LE Rapunzel doll. What made me change my mind though, is the scenario. If they actually have th Flynn doll tangled (heh) in the hair in the box, then that's gonna look really cool and be great for display. Plus, they have new outfits, which is more than I can say for Moana.

Ariel and Triton - Yeah we've gotten a lot of Ariel dolls as well, but the fact that we're getting Triton for the first time is actually really exciting. I'm liking the idea of this set, especially if it actually comes with the Eric statue.

Cruella - this is the most "meh" choice to me. She's like...a semi uncommon character? Then again not really, she's all over any villains merchandise and we have gotten her before. She's less common to see than say, Ariel or Rapunzel, but more common to see than Robin Hood or Blue Fairy, which just makes her not really have a reaction for me. I'm not against it but I'm not particularly happy about it either, it's just kind of there.

Mulan and Shang - love it, but there's no chance of me and a lot do other people ever owning it for a reasonable price due to it being a d23 exclusive

Blue Fairy - see above

and finally, Robin Hood and Maid Marian - this is by far the most unique set, and I'm glad they did something for the fans of this movie. Robin Hood's not one of my personal favorites, but I can see why this would excite a lot of people, and I'm happy for that.

My main complaint is that there are characters people have been wanting for a while, Esmeralda (with Phoebus or Quasi or alone) Hercules and Meg, Tarzan and Jane...and we don't get any of that. I don't care how much of a Robin Hood fan you are, you can't tell me that more people are excited for that set than they would have been for any of the characters I just mentioned. I especially thought we'd finally be getting Hercules because of the 20th anniversary being this year.

Sigh. Rant over. I just really hope I can see my favorites before this line eventually dies out/ends.

This is an interesting and slightly confusing direction for the series to go in than I was expecting. I guess the three categories are more for specification from the past collections. I'm wondering how the price is going to work out. You have Mulan, Mermaid, Tangeled, Robin Hood with two dolls, and the rest with one doll and accessories. Pinocchio might be an exception, its hard to tell based on the art if he will be a small accessory or a full doll along with Blue Fairy. And we don't know what Incredibles will look like yet. If they try to sell the singles for the same price as the duos because of the accessories I don't know how people are going to feel about it. At $130 for one doll that better be one amazing display! I wish Cruella came with Anita and a few puppies.

I know people aren't as keen on the character selection, but I think we have a doll series here that is going to last several years, not just two. They way they have structured it I think its going to be an ongoing thing for some time. There's no way they can get all their main Princesses out, or even half of them, and I think that will be the goal since we have Ariel and Rapunzel this year. They will probably mix some Princesses in with other characters like Meg, Esmeralda and so on, probably with at least one of those in next years collection. Again it seems like they are focusing on key scenes in each movie.

I had photoshopped a LEading Ladies set with a Maid Marian doll but I never thought they'd actually make her! Let's see how many we'll end up checking off this list. Unfortunately I don't know that I'll ever get a Designer Jessica Rabbit doll at this rate but it's Really nice to see new characters.

Also, not sure if anyone noticed this:

Want to meet some of the magic makers behind these books? Check out these signings:
*Note, it says books, but there are artists listed concerning the dolls*

Friday, July 14

Jessica Fuchs and Steve Thompson, Disney Folktale Series Artists (5 p.m., TBD)

Saturday, July 15

Jessica Fuchs and Steve Thompson, Art of Snow White Artists (5:30 p.m., TBD)

Art of Snow White should bring some interesting merchandise and/or dolls! 11-12" or 17"?

Why couldn't Moana be the D23 exclusive instead of Mulan? :io:

Because then I would have to buy two doll sets instead on one this year.

As far as Moana goes, she's super popular at my store and we have a hard time keeping any of her merch in store. We sold out of the second doll in the first week.

Yes I would so love these as I think most people would! Its about times these characters get some merchandise. I'm not sure what Disney is waiting for? Especially something for Hercules 20th anniversary. I want a Designer Meg (like original designer line concept) and new adult Pegasus plush!

i am just curious if the display cases would be bigger because if ariel comes with prince erics statue how in the hell would it fit with king triton?

This way Mulan is guaranteed to sell out!

And they thought Robbin hood/maid Marian and the 3rd moana doll that looks the same as the other two dolls released this year will sell out faster than Mulan?

This is the Disneystore/collector relationship problem in a nutshell. Constant disconnect from what the actual collectors want.
