Hello- I was wondering if there's a way to continually import our wants and traders from pinpics onto disneypinplace? I recently edited my traders and wants on pinpics and went to disneypinplace hoping that if I hit "import pins from pinpics", that it would work...but it didn't. Any ideas? Thanks

It seems to have added the pins that I added to pinpics, but it didn't delete the pins that I deleted from pinpics.

This might be a helpful tool ^_^ Let ethanwa know, I'm sure he can fix it to remove the pins you removed from PP, but if not, it shouldn't be that hard to manually do it (unless you got rid of like all your pins )

So the answer to the question you asked is, YES, there is a way to IMPORT your stuff from PinPics - but, as you discovered it only adds new stuff, it will not delete stuff you have in DPP.

What you are REALLY looking for (in computer geek terms) is a way to SYNCHRONIZE your DPP pins with your PP pins, so you only have to maintain your collection one place. I know there are pins in DPP that don't exist in PP, so there are some inherent issues with a synch function like that... Anything you add in DPP that doesn't exist in PP would be removed once you synch, any changes you make in DPP but don't make the corresponding changes in PP would be reset on a synch...

I can't really speak for the site's developer(s), but in my opinion, the "import" feature was supposed to allow you to easily transport your collection, the thought being you would do all your collection maintenance in DPP going forward, and would just leave PP behind.

Of course, that's not quite feasible yet, since DPP doesn't have the "trade assistant" functionality, and a few other cool features I am sure are coming soon (on the developer's list of to-do items).

Until then, dropping items from your trade list, or your collection, is fairly quick in DPP... You can search pins for a description (Say, "world of color") and then using that page that only has the pins you want, click on one, remove from my trades, click next pin (and this works GREAT) it takes you to the next pin from the search results, not the next pin in the database!! I have added and removed 15-20 pins at a time in a couple of minutes, this way.

Thanks for the answers. I edited myself. I'm a computer idiot. :) I appreciate that dpp imported my wants and traders initially. I just figured that if I imported again on dpp that it would show what pinpics shows...as it did on the initial import. No worries.

I suspect going into the future that the import function may be less effective on newer pins. If someone creates a new listing on DPP directly, there's no way for the DPP database to know what that corresponds to on PP (all the older pins are probably fine though). And there's still a few cases of duplicate pins on DPP, so that may cause a pin to disappear for some people once that's fixed (unless the mods can manually change everyone that has the pin listed to the correct one...)

I don't know exactly how all that works behind the scenes, but that's what I think may start to happen in the future. Hopefully once the trade assistant is in place, it won't be necessary anymore.

For those of you who don't know, I am the creator of Disney Pin Place.

Yes, for now it's only "import" and I have no plan to add a "sync".

Other features are coming soon that will allow you to completely forget using PinPics (like trade assistant that a poster mentioned above). I do have a PinPics Pin syncing thing that I run every week or so that syncs the pins to make sure new ones are added to DPP from PinPics, but I don't know how long I will keep doing that.... I am trying to get to the point where DPP has everything + More than PP so that people just stop using PP altogether (because it's out-of-date with it's data).

I think my only issue so far with DPP is that to me the trade/want ratios arn't as 'accurate/predictive' due to newness and fewer # of 'traders in the pool' like where PP trade/wants ratio is 1 to 49 vs DPP 0 to 3... or 2 to 154 or 0 to 18..

but for managing my collection/wants/trades its wonderful :)

I think this can actually go both ways. Many of the people trading and wanting pins on PP aren't active traders anymore. So while it says there are 100 people wanting or trading a pin, only a handful of them might actually still be using the site. This means that even though the numbers are lower on DPP, you probably have a better chance of going through with a trade (or at least getting a response) because the people on DPP are active users.

I was thinking the same thing.

I have been trying to put the word out on the FB Disney pin trading pages, as they seem to be very active. If people have ?'s about starting a pp acct, I always post a link to DPP and offer a friendlier, easier site to use. I have gotten some support from one of the FB Disney pin trading pages. Tho, I warn everyone, team pp people use those pages as well and can be quite hostel towards you if you mention DPP!! Hang in there and please help get the word out!!
