DisneyStore Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion
All this talk about Emma Watson's Belle in 2017 and no talk about what could possibly be Mia Wasikowska's Alice next year? :nono::drool:
:io:

...there's a new Alice movie coming out?

This is LITERALLY the first I've heard of it. I'm not quite sure how that news just skirted around me...

Not that it super matters, in the context we're talking about- I'm much more a BatB fan than an Alice fan. But hopefully, for you and the other AiW fans, there will be a doll and it will be gorgeous.

Honestly I'm more excited about the live action Beauty and the Beast too! I absolutely love the Alice in Wonderland of 1951, but that is about as far as my interest in the story goes. Unfortunately I just don't really like the book (I've tried it, and for me at least without the bright colors and very visual elements cinema has given the tale it wasn't a fun read), and the 2010 trailers diverged a little too much from Disney's original story for my liking. Maybe I will give this new film a chance, but it has to look good; I for one am very interested in how it will differ from its predecessor since Tim Burton won't be directing this time around. I will probably be excited about the merchandise regardless though, especially if they decide to make another 17'' LE Alice doll that has a larger edition size than 500.

I'm glad I'm not alone. I keep going back and forth, but I've spent so much on dolls this year. Thankfully there was an IRS refund and I get a ton of overtime this time of year. With the exception of the $500 wedding Cinderella that I didn't get, I've gotten all the other LE dolls released this year (that's four 17 inch LE and Fawn), and I broke down and put my first BJD on layaway, and then another one a couple of weeks later. I've been eating mostly oatmeal, potatoes and eggs for about a month now to pay for all this extra stuff LOL, and there's a bunch of really great Tonner dolls popping up on Ebay that I've really been wanting. Also, I want to put some money away for any others they may release this summer and fall. It's hard to justify spending so much on a doll I don't completely love, and I think the prince sculpt kind of looks like an ape man. I keep watching Chad Alan's reviews of the dolls on Youtube and almost getting them, and the reviews have made me want the fairy godmother too now. I used have way more control over myself. I just love that dress so much. I went to Toys R US today and looked at the Mattel version for $20 thinking maybe I'd get that to alter and just be happy with it, but it made me want the Disney set even more.

Yeah, there's always something I end up kicking myself for not getting when there's a 25% off code, of course they tend to release a bunch of new stuff I want right when those codes expire and so often it sells out before another code pops up.

BTW: I completely forgot until this morning that there is a 15% off if you spend $75 code for D23 members. I used it to get some Frozen Fever stuff over a month ago and completely forgot about it (it's not good on the LE dolls, and there's some other restrictions). D23 membership is free for anyone not signed up. The code is D23MAGIC and it's good through the end of the month. With the code the wedding set is $59.45, and you can stack with with the free shipping if you spend $75. The dolls retail for $69.95, so it's worth it to add another doll or something to reach the $75, but geez, Disney has gotten way too much of my money this year as is. I'm almost hoping the dolls are sold out when I get paid next Friday. It would make my life so much easier.

This was the first I've heard of it too, and now I'm googling it like crazy. I love Alice. I'm looking forward to the merchandise more than the movie since I wasn't a huge fan of the 2010 movie either. I like Tim Burton, and I've always loved almost anything Alice, but that movie did not click for me. It'll be interesting to see what the director, James Bobin, does with it. I think the only thing I've seen of his work is Muppets Most Wanted.

Thanks for the tip. I just got paid this week, and this is usually the time I check out the website to see if there's anything new I might be interested in.

You're welcome. I could have kicked myself for forgetting about it. I didn't think about it until after I posted about wishing there was code, but posting must have jarred something because it popped up in my head again this morning. I guess maybe I thought it was expired. I ordered a couple of little things with my LE dolls that would have qualified for the code, but had forgotten about it. Also, there's Ebates for added kick back if you do that. People here are always so good to remind everyone about that when the LE dolls come out. I hate when I forget to go through Ebates for anything. It really does add up, and they're good about listing discount codes that may apply.

I agree with the comments about falling in love with the Cinderella dolls after seeing the movie but being turned off by the angry expressions. However, I bought a set to customize into a LE inspired designer couple. Once you get them out of the box and repositioned, they look more fierce than angry, almost like they're posing for a magazine. I think the problem is the actors have to pose with a blank expression for the mold scan and then painting happy features on a serious face mold doesn't work. The Cinderella in the wedding set is smiling but it looks almost like she drank fruit punch or something.

Anyway, here's a pic of my set opened up.

Yeah, now that you mention it, they do look more like they're striking a pose. Kinda of like hungry models. They look better out of the box. I think I'm going to have to break down and buy them Friday. Still, I think I may need to soften the eyebrows if I get them. It's really the clothes that are selling me on the dolls. Thanks for the pic, Quasimodo.

Ok, so when it comes to these dolls all I have to say is that the clothes are really well done, but the face sculpts are really just bad.
I understand what Quasi is saying, but still, they look more angry than fierce to me. lol

Actually, Cinderella I can see her reaction softening up a bit, but I can't for the life of me see how the prince's face sculpt made it past the computer... He looks soo weird... It's probably the outward pushed jaw and cheeks, like his mouth is filled with food. lol

I actually saw these dolls in person when I went to the Disney Store a few days ago, and I didn't think they looked any better.

As for the Cinderella LE doll (blue gown), It's really a shame that they substituted the flow of the dress for puffiness. It just doesn't look as good as it did in the movie.

I wonder if they have to keep the likeness of the faces to a certain level so that they don't have to pay more. If you ask me, the royalties should go to the designers of the clothes, not the actors wearing them. :/

Well i just got back home and i was stressing about having Cinderella in my package with all the weard stuff going on. so i was happy that i was her. until i saw her fingers like that. I tried to remove it with water but it did not work D: it's also on her feet as you can see. I have no idea where to contact disney and what i should put in that email. because i never ever got a doll with something wrong about it  anybody tips?

the photo's are here https://www.flickr.com/photos/131316237@N04/?

I would contact them by phone. And then if nothing happens post on their FB page. Or you could do both. They usually respons to photos on their FB page. And some stores have dolls still.

There was also a slight amount of that gunk on my doll: http://i58.tinypic.com/2dl821v.jpg

I lightly scrubbed the fingertip with some magic eraser and then applied a soap solution with a cotton swab. Looks close to clean now. I thought it was glue residue at first (and maybe it is), but it seemed to be more of a stain of sorts.

it looks the same! We don't have magic eraser in my country i am going to look for it. with a cotton swab and green soap it did not work D: it still looks horrible and like it's cut out of the hand. i am going to try other soap tomorrow when it's light again

I agree that the Le cinderella doll dress could be better. The top layer should have been blue chiffon with many pleats and folds, and the next layer should have been iridescent, while the rest of the dress should have many soft ruffles on each of the layers, and more tulle petticoats. I think if they used chiffon for most of the dress, it would look more flowing and more accurate to the one in the movie than the stiffer materials they used for doll instead.

The cinderella does indeed have a bad face mold. It's a shame as it seems like the dolls are getting lesser in quality as they get higher in price

Haha I've said the same thing about the Prince's face mold! He looks like one of the apes from Planet of the Apes and that definitely does not do Prince Kit's justice according to the movie.

Goodness gracious what have you done! I was under the impression that D23 promo codes are only for D23 Silver and above and not for the free memberships but now I HAVE to get the wedding set and since it "HAS" to go over $75, it looks like I'll HAVE to get Lady Tremaine with them now.

P.S. And by "goodness gracious" I meant thank you for the information on the promo code.lol

The code worked for me in February and it's letting me add it again, so I don't think it's restricted to the premium memberships as I've not been willing to pay that much for membership upgrade. At least not yet. I haven't really thought the added benefits were worth $75 for gold membership. Although, I kind of want to so I can get into the special boutique. I'd love to hear if anyone has a premium membership and what they think about the benefits vs cost.

Yeah, I added the fairy godmother to my cart because it just wouldn't make sense not to hit the $75 mark as it practically makes the doll free, so it's almost like you're making money, right? LOL I hate that. They always reel me in things like that. I can't pass up a bargain. I'm not spending $89, I'm saving $29 with the free shipping. Yeah, that sounds right. Good thing I like oatmeal... Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll all be sold out before I get paid.

Haha oy vey I just placed the order for the wedding set and lady tremaine. But it is weird that I noticed the promo description does state for Gold members but somehow it worked for my orders - not complaining though. Also if you do cashbacks, shopathome is doing 9% cashback on all Disney Store orders now.

I've been looking at ebay for a little bit now, and have been comparing previously sold items to current items. Am I nuts to wonder why some dolls are going for $50-$100 more than they were just a month ago? Any idea as to why? Is it due to the recent batch of limited edition dolls that were released, and the prices will become more reasonable again in another month or two?

A little bit of me wishes I didn't discover the limited edition dolls...because I'm starting to become obsessed with them... They're so pretty....

Yeah, I noticed that too. It's like the price on all of these dolls skyrocketed overnight. I am glad I got my 2012 LE Cinderella a little over a month ago because now it seems she's going for between $350 to over $400. I also saw a Snow White that sold for over $2000 recently. Everyone says the dolls should go down again, but having observed the secondary market over the past year, it seems as if everything I've been watching has steadily gone up and stayed up. I suspect past trends might not hold true anymore because there is an increasing number of collectors. I really do hope they go down through; I still have a lot of catching up to do on past releases, and I'm not willing to pay the current crazy prices.

i've seen someone sell 9 dolls on ebay all in one! for $9999.99 or you can make an offer i don't know why but i am thinking to save for that one. i only have ariel in that set and i would not mind making a wedding ariel like someone else did because that looked amazing. Am i driving crazy that i am willing to pay €7155/$9000 for 9 dolls (with snow white, Belle, Queen of hearts, Mother gothel, Ursula, Ariel, Cinderella, Lady tremaine and merida and her mother? her ebay i think is save she sold more LE dolls and other expensive stuff and 99% was positive. Am i going nuts i can buy a car for that... lol

Finally, My Elsa arrived today. I love her very much!

I also noticed something on the outer box. As you could see, the original labels are being covered by 'reprinted' new labels. So, I suspect this may be related to the issues of receiving two Elsa.
