I'm also hoping that since it's taking this long to sell out, perhaps if I change my mind in the future, the secondary market price won't be too far off from retail. I started collecting with last years Sleeping Beauty and I think this is the first time a 17-inch doesn't sell out within an hour? Has this ever happened in the past?
The first set of Anna (coronation) and Elsa (snow queen) were the first ones to sell out within the hour from what I remember. Elsa selling out before Anna. I knew Ariel, who was also released in 2013, hung around for a couple days before selling out. Cinderella, Merida, and the Elinor/Merida set hung around for awhile before selling out. There was not a huge hype with these dolls until Frozen. Everyone was kind of shocked how quickly Aurora sold out. A lot of us expected her to hang around until morning because she wasn't that popular. People weren't happy with the promo images or the fact she was in pink. Merida & Cinderella were on sale in my Disney Store for months. I'm kicking myself not getting Merida now but what can you do? Live and learn.
I honestly wasn't surprised Aurora sold out quickly. At my DS, the first items to sell out are always Frozen, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella related. So those princesses seem to be the most popular of the line in my area.
For those still on the fence, as of now, Jasmine IS still available!
For those on the fence, I was too. I want Aladdin WAY more then Jasmine, I have the 17" singing Jasmine and figured I didn't need this one. I would put LE Aladdin (He WILL be mine) and my big singing Jasmine together. I thought it was a good idea, but I just ordered her and i feel GREAT! Who are we kidding? These dolls are Majestic!and look amazing together. I only have Sleeping Beauty pink, blue and Phillip, but I've seen yalls pictures. Her face mold is much prettier then Aurora's in my opinion (Aurora's dress is incredible to make up for it), and I really can't see ever regretting purchasing a doll from this line. I skipped the last Frozen ones and probably shouldn't have...
Will there be a LE Genie?
I called my store today and they still had some. I couldn't make it yesterday and didn't even try because I thought they would sell out. So weird.Wow, I just checked and Jasmine is still available! I know we have more for sell here because they've allotted so few to Europe, but it's so strange how few people showed up in the stores yesterday. Is she really that unpopular? I thought maybe there weren't that many scalpers around this time but the numerous eBay listings would say otherwise.
I think she hasn't sold out because of:
1. the ONE picture they released of her (so almost zero hype, and not many people knew about her as much as the others)
2. was poor and really shiny looking, so that many people who did know about her didn't like her.
3. Jasmine isn't the most popular princess, and I really do think it's due to her ethnicity and coloring, and the fact that she wasn't the main character in her movie.
4. Increased price
5. Scalpers are becoming more picky about which dolls they choose to scalp; they have learned that not all princesses sell as well as Elsa, and buy accordingly; they probably got the lack of hype vibe and lesser popularity of Jasmine, and did not think they would make good profit from her.
6. The rest of the collector dolls yet to be released this year so people waiting and saving money for those.
I am fairly positive they will make limited 17 inch Mulan and Pocahontas because frankly it's insulting that they would do several princes and villains (some of who also took several days to sell out) and NOT do the last two princesses in the princess line.
1. That picture has nothing to do with Jasmine not selling out, because if the people who were doubting her saw the newer images, they would have gotten the doll by now and it would have sold out. Besides, a lot of people here said that they wouldn't get the doll because of that image, and ended up getting the doll because of the images that were on the website.
2. Same reason as the first one. I know someone who despises the shine, but ended up getting the doll.
3. Jasmine is not popular, but I don't think it's because of her ethnicity. I think I've touched upon how her character (and several of the ethnic princesses) are pretty much just normal human beings. Nothing magical about them. She isn't a mermaid and she doesn't have a magical dress transformation. So when kids are growing up, they don't pay that much attention to Jasmine because she is just a normal human being. Also, Aladdin is the main character and most girls love Aladdin more.
4. Increased price doesn't matter. If increased price was an issue, none of the Frozen SP15 dolls would have sold. Also, LE500 Cinderella.
5. Scalpers could be the main culprit here. They probably realized that no one wants to get Jasmine beyond the usual doll collectors and that people would pretty much just preorder her on release day.
6. Generally speaking, collectors will buy both, but this might be a valid excuse. But with the rumors going around about the other dolls this year, I don't think people are that excited about them.
As for the possibility of a Mulan and Pocahontas, they're pretty much nonexistent at this point and I doubt Disney will bother making them. Jasmine was the final nail in the coffin. They already got the sign that not that many people are interested in getting them from last year's sets and Disney will not waste their resources to make them. I suggest people just move on from ever having these two Disney princesses made. Anothe1.r reason would be because Jasmine actually sells more than Pocahontas and Mulan... So that's that. I could maybe see a LE2500 with Mulan and Poca, but I doubt they'll make them. Besides, what can they do with Pocahontas? She'll end up looking as plain as Jasmine.
Can we talk about the fact that these dolls originally did not sell out quickly?!? The only reason the last few releases sold out quickly was because of the Frozen hype. Ariel, one of the most popular princesses, took 3 days to sell out. The dolls that sold out quickly were with the Frozen hype. The first Anna and Elsa set were the dolls that started the huge hype in these dolls and it was because they were part of Frozen. Aurora and the Sleeping Beauty dolls came out in the middle of the Frozen craze. Scalpers thought all the dolls would be popular so they snapped them up. Same with the live action Cinderella dolls. With the last Frozen set being somewhat of a bust, scalpers are not out to buy these dolls in droves anymore. These dolls are going to go back to their pre-Frozen status where they don't sell that quickly. Merida, Cinderella (animated), and the Merida/Elinor set were on sale for months. I had multiple opportunities to buy the dolls in store for months and they sat online for awhile. Even with Ariel, you had a 3 day window to preorder her online. I don't remember her selling out much better in the stores. These dolls are popular among a select group of collectors. Not all collectors collect these dolls and the majority of the people who collect these dolls collect specific characters. Its why you will see the prices for the characters like Alice, Rapunzel, Ariel, Anna, and Elsa remaining rather high. They won't drop down as quickly or as much as say Merida will. Your average Disney fan doesn't buy these dolls. Your Frozen collectors are what made these so popular for a hot second. However, with Frozen fever dying down, you are not going to see people rushing to buy them. It has nothing to do with Jasmine being the princess being released. People have wanted this doll for a long time. The ones who have waited, preordered her. Jasmine is a popular princess. She is the most popular princess of color. Don't kid yourself into thinking she is not popular. Jasmine is marketed a whole lot more than Aladdin and he is the title character in his movie. She is in the princess line up and he is not. Frankly, you could have had another character being released and I doubt they would have sold out. These dolls are just not popular enough to the majority of Disney fans. Disney knows these dolls tend to sit for a few days to a few months. It has happened in the past and it will happen again. The selling out within the hour has honestly probably passed. The next release this fall with tell but I cannot see any of the dolls they'll release sell out within the hour again.
I want a Genie doll over a Jafar doll, but ideally I there to be both and have Aladdin and a another version of Jasmine. I don't think they would have that many dolls though for this movie.
