DisneyStore Limited Edition 17" Dolls Discussion

I really hope there are new body molds. I'm Really surprised they are making Gaston AND Beast AND Bell AND a Platinum Set!! I Can't wait to see what these look like. I might get Beast depending on how he looks, and how he is made, but I have collected the Villains so I'm intrigued with how the Gaston doll will look. And if they do anything with chest hair I think they will have floored me on surprises LOL You know they probably joked about it when making the doll.

Does anyone think, or want, Belle to be in more of a gold dress if they redo the ballroom gown. Isn't it supposed to be gold? I've never seen that made accurately and I'm not sure how it would look. Maybe more gold embellishments over yellow fabric.

Hope the store sales went well. Good luck to those who are trying online!

I'm skipping this release myself. I like the Alice films well enough, but I'm not enough of a fan to take a doll away from someone who really wants these.

sorry for the super large images but thought it would be good to post these. i think they look pretty great, except the platinum set.

I actually like the Alice from the Platinum set far more than the stand alone version we got today...not enough to pay $750 for her, but if she and the stand alone version had swapped places I would have snapped both her and the Red Queen up in a heart beat! My store had three people with 7 Red Queen and 6 Alice dolls. I have really tried to like Alice, but I think her skin is just a little too pale for my tast, that and I hate the outfit! I have made several attempts to like it on her, both while watching the movie and looking over the doll, but it just didn't work for me! One of my friends said she likewise didn't like Alice's doll, but felt obliged to purchase it for the sake of completing the set. I, however, just can't spend $150 on something I know I dislike! I did purchase the Red Queen today though and she's absolutely stunning! Definitely don't regret buying her! <3

Well now that the Alice release has come and gone, what fall doll releases is everyone looking forward to the most? We have the next wave of designer dolls, the 17" Beauty and the Beast dolls, and the 17" Moana. I am personally looking forward to seeing all of them!

I'll need to see the doll and the movie first but I'm fairly certain I'll love Moana.

If they do a gaston that doesn't look bad I'll need him, an animated belle I'd really like her blue town dress but I'd also like an updated ballroom,( live action again I'll need to see the movie) and Prince Adam if he gets a doll outside of the platinum set.

all in all I'm so excited for this fall and upcoming year!

So, who got the platinum set?

I did! Sort of, kinda, by accident no less X| I cruised through checkout, but on the last screen I lost my nerve. Sooo much money y'know? Then people were reporting it being sold out for a little bit and I figured 'ah well, might as well let the system kick it out of my cart' and hit submit for fun.

Which is how I spent $1,100 at 12:12.

Oops.

Congratulations to everyone who wanted them and bought them. I figure Alice would be sold out by morning and I'd lose my chance. If she is still available after a few days, once I have money. I'll buy her, if not I take it as fate. And save money/room for the BATB release in the fall.

Looking forward to seeing in hand photos of the platinum set.

haha that's great c:

Looking at the platinum set, if that would have been the stand alone alice id have bought her and the queen. I did plan on the queen but ultimately said no. Ive got high hopes for the belle dolls. cant wait to see pictures I hope they have lots of details!

Just got an email advertisement from the Disney Store - looks like the Alice and Red Queen dolls are still available on the store website.

Ww! they must have sold very weakly for them to do that. I don't believe theyve ever sent out emails about dolls that have already been released.

I'm glad beauty and the beast is next since its growing a lot of hype and a lot of people sound interested... I hope it sells quickly and is very popular.

I'm always afraid when dolls undersell like Disney sees it as lack of interest in the limited edition dolls in general rather than the actual doll set released...

Ill be honest Im very glad for the new dolls and very excited to get characters that were not done the first time around, but Im also looking forward to the end of the line.

You can be certain that Gaston and the beast will have significantly lower edition sizes. Both Aladdin and Phillip are still available online in the UK! and both of them took a while to sell out in the US. Jafar sold out really quick, and I honestly think that if Disney does right by Gaston (new body mold with the actual pony tail hair), he will sell out instantly overnight no matter the edition size.

I think the problem is the edition size. It should have been 2500 or less. They took a very weak fandom that they revived after 6 years and tried to put out okay dolls. I feel like I would have been sold on Alice if the neck piece were embroidered instead of molded, the shoes were better constructed, and they used a different material for the pants.

At my store they sold out of Red Queen, but they still had one Alice left yesterday.

The first movie does have its fans and I think there were enough people asking for LE Alice dolls to warrant them being made, but given the poor reception the first film had from both audiences and critics, it seems like making the dolls LE of 4000 might have been a little too big. They could have made them 3000 or 2500, and maybe they would have sold out by the end of the week. My store has two Alice dolls and two Red Queen dolls, and they rarely have left over dolls for sale.

Yet at the same time, anything below 4000 might have been too small of an LE size. Even with all the mixed reception on the property, the movie might have a larger following in other countries. The lower number might have prevented a good number of people that actually wanted them from getting them. There are also people that liked the dolls regardless of how they felt about the movies.

Either way, this entire release was probably never going to do well regardless of what choices they made. The new film didn't have a lot of hype behind it, it performed WAY below expectations at the box office on opening weekend, and it didn't have a huge fan base to begin with. The entire idea of releasing a sequel to a highly successful but very mixed film over 6 years later isn't exactly one of Disney's smarter decisions.

Whoa! I didn't know those two were still online! It makes me sad because I really like the boy dolls and I really want them to continue them.

If if they get gaston right I agree I think a lot of people will want him... I know I will.

Yeah, just look at Jafar. I wasn't a big fan of him, but everyone I know loved him. He sold out within the first few hours.
Looking at some stats: Jafar had an edition size of 2,500, lower than Aladdin's 3,500. While Phillip had an edition size of 3,500 and Kristoff of 3,500. If I were Disney, I would not make anymore prince dolls over the edition size of either 2,000 or 1,500. The villains can be over 2,500 because they appeal more to adults and they are more distinctive.

I think the biggest issue with the male dolls are the faces. They all look the same. They all have the same nose and massive eyebrows! But the designer collection male dolls have absolute perfect faces. It's mind boggling how they mess up the face molds for bigger dolls.

Then we have this:

Hmmm.... I agree with you in Disney having trouble with the male doll faces however, I wouldn't say the Designer Collection males doll faces were absolute perfection. Everyone I know said that the princes' faces were pretty derpy looking, particularly Naveen and Aladdin. Flynn's face was pretty flat too. Shang and John Smith were spot on though. Disney seems to be getting better since Hans and Kristoff looked pretty good but yeah, they definitely need to work on translating the 11-12" faces to the 17" ones. ^^;

With all the 17" dolls coming out, plus The Art of Belle collection, AND the second Fairytale Designer Collection, it's going to be quite a busy fall season. Many people did not seem thrilled about the LA Alice dolls from the beginning. Only Red Queen stood out, and they could have done without the Platinum Set and made them lower editions. I'm very curious to see what Belle, Gaston and Beast will look like, and how well this does since it's the Second release of a Belle doll years later. I'm so surprised that there will be Gaston And Beast!!
I think if they are doing this for BatB, they are going to give all the movies this treatment at some point. (however it does tie in with an Anniversary and a Live Action movie on the way). If they all sell well I think we can expect dolls like Human Ariel, Vanessa, Evil Queen, Hans, and maybe Pocahontas and Mulan. Should we start a wish list lol
