I'm still on the fence about Elsa.. For those planning on purchasing in-store, what are the chances they'll let you see if beforehand? Like, for the past couple of releases at my store they give out numbered cards when you line up outside the store before store is officially open so you basically had to make up your mind what you wanted - do you think they'll let you see it first?
 
Reading other people's displeasure about the LE Cinderella dolls; Someone says how on other, LR dolls they break face molds so the won't be reproduced. Did they do this with the Frozen dolls? We're not paying $120 for slightly different face paint, and new clothes are we?
 

If you are really wanting to go for snow queen Elsa, then I would just get Anna. That way you have them both in the clothes they wear at the end of the movie. This Elsa is still quite nice for what she is, but I personally would probably be happier with her in the snow queen or coronation outfit than I would with an outfit that she wears for less than a minute in the original film.
 

Nope, just ask for all the cards and then if you get to the front and end up not getting it, give the unused card back to the cashier so they can hand it out to someone else
 
I have never done an LE doll release before. I plan to get to the store early on Tuesday how does Disney generally Handel things ? Do they pass out tickets or just first come first serve? I hope it's orderly and not total chaos

It really depends on the store, but the general practice seems that they give you cards with a number on them and then you line up. That is how it was when the Sleeping Beauty dolls were released at my store.
 

I signed it. It probably won't do much but hey we can try right? The only thing I don't agree with about he petition was how the person who wrote it seems to be mad that the blue gown Cinderella is $129, when I think the price is pretty understandable. Live Action dolls always cost more because they need to pay royalties for the actor's likenesses.
 

Yeah, I agree with that. I expected the price would increase if they used Lily James' mold. I doubt it'll do anything to change the mind about which dolls are getting a release. If anything, this might make the company think about what the price tags should be. I read through the comments, and there's quite a few threats of boycotts on it because of the price increase. It makes you wonder what Disney was thinking, considering the economy's still in the toilet and all.
 

Really, I think Disney just finally caught on to the fact that these dolls have become huge collectors items in the Disney community. If you go to eBay, and type in Disney dolls in the Disneyana section, then you get a LOT of listings of these dolls going for lots of money and most of those said listings are actually selling. So Disney probably thinks that where these dolls are so popular and because they are selling for so much on the secondary market that they think they can make a $500 wedding doll of Cinderella and people will buy it. Its really annoying, but maybe we should have seen it coming :/.
 
If you go on ebay their are not actually that many LE dolls under £300 anymore, so I think Disney just assumes everyone must be willing to spend that amount on a doll, People complained about the Harrods set been so expensive but yet it sold out and now people will pay crazy prizes for it on ebay. This hobby is getting to expensive and stressful! Luckily I'm not a completist and only getting dolls I like. This is unlikely but I hope the Wedding doll doesn't sell out super quick because then Disney might start increasing the prices all the time!

Ahh ok thanks! I just wasn't sure if I HAVE to buy it once I've got the card for them.
 
TBH, my problem isn't with the price, it's with the doll. I'm sucking out that I don't like her. If she was really special/beautiful, I think it would be almost fun to have such a limited doll. I just feel like there's no reason for her to be so expensive. I feel like all the expensive dolls on the secondary market are expensive because we as a collecting community decided they're worth a lot. It's like if I tried to sell my Calhoun doll for $1,000 because she's more limited than Elsa. I'd be crazy. But if I tried to sell my Elsa doll for that price, someone would be getting a deal.

Based on the pics released, this doesn't look like a doll collectors would consider a grail.
 
For sleeping beauty cast members held one of each doll to show customers... I'm sure if you ask your store would do the same.
 
My store just had the cards to give out, but you could see the dolls at the counter and decide before paying. Guessing that's how this will go too. I do plan to try for the blue dress Cinderella because I think she is really beautiful. And I would want wedding Cinderella if she were the same price. I just won't go for her at $500. And I want all the Frozen dolls. Sigh......also hoping like someone else said that they wait awhile before any other releases.

So because they are releasing online and in store the same day, that might stop the link fairies? I hadn't realized that, so much more stressed now!
 
so you just line up and get a card and then shuffle you in? can you choose between dolls, ie. choosing one of the two blue dress dolls if i don't like the hair on one for instance?

i have only been to my store early for a crazy frozen re-stock day, and we stood in line and then were allowed into the store straight to the cashier in a single file just as we waited. i have never gotten a limited edition doll so i don't know how this works... haha.
 
That is exactly how I feel. If the dress had looked as beautiful as the actual dress in movie with embroidered or handpainted flowers on sheer overskirt and layers of organza, there would have been a wow factor that would have made $500 price tag more understandable. Even if the doll looks better in person, I just cannot see paying $500 for a 17" inch version of the 12" doll with a few gemstones attached to overskirt. Nope. I never planned to buy a $500 doll, but if she had truly been exquisite, I would have dabbled with idea. Personally, I think the 12" is very pretty and a much better buy for my money. I know some people really love this 17" $500 doll. More power to them. For me, I need more bang for my buck.

At the Sleeping Beauty release, the cast members handed out the cards they had to those in line at close to ten, then went through the whole store-opening ceremony and then let everyone in like normal. So you could shop around before going to the cash register to purchase the dolls since you had the cards to guarantee the doll for you. But I don't know if other stores might do things differently.
 
Yes it depends on the store. I have 5 in my city and they're much less accommodating than they used to be. My main store used to let us look at a max of 4. Then it was 2. Now you get the one they give you unless there's a glaring issue like a damaged box.

lol, more evidence of how this used to be a lot more fun. But what can you do? These dolls have become a hit.
 
i'll ask the cast members. for the price, it better be without major issues. or else it will forever haunt me. LOL

When I went for sleeping beauties they just went down the line before store opened, asked which ones you wanted, and give you the character card with your number on it. Then when it's time to open store, they did their usual store opening ceremony, and we all went inside in the line we waited outside, straight to the cashier to check out; it was only then we saw the dolls.

Idk, I guess it doesn't hurt to ask if we can see it while we wait and if not then I'll grab a card and then if I decide not to get her, someone in line might decide to get them. I just wasn't sure if once you've got the card, you're pressured into buying it.
 

1. Cinderella is $10 more expensive due to royalty fees.
2. Cinderella LE500 does not have a description or any info. Why not wait until Disney releases more info before we judge them on the price. I mean, it is hard to believe that it'll be worth it, but still, we should wait to see why Disney thinks this doll is special.
3. These dolls are not going to get more expensive! Yes, they may release more embellished versions of them and sell them at higher prices like Harrods, but the prices will remain $120. Have you looked at the recent release of Frozen dolls? Sheesh! Let's not jump to conclusions. Disney is smart. They are a company. They know that if they suddenly raise all the prices their customers will not be happy and they have learnt from Wedding Rapunzel and the designer villains fiasco. High Prices + Edition numbers do not sell.
4. SO WHAT IF DISNEY RELEASES MORE AND MORE LE FROZEN DOLLS?! I am so sick of reading comments about people and the Frozen dolls. These dolls have nothing to do with the release schedule, in fact, yall should be glad because Disney now knows that there is demand for the line. Compare the line up to what it used to be before Frozen. We barely got any dolls back then, and now they are releasing dolls. The scheduling did not change. It's always been the system for them to release dolls in the spring and in the fall, with the later being the heavy season. Spring usually 1 or 2 dolls, usually related to movie releases. Fall gets the other bunch. Big Hero 6 didn't get any dolls because Disney didn't want to release them. End of discussion. Stop complaining about Frozen taking over spots. It's just getting annoying.
5. POC characters just don't sell. Sadly. And Disney will not make dolls that won't sell. They've already learned their lesson. Look at how the designer fairytale dolls ended up. The white princesses sold out instantly. The POC princesses can still be found in stores! They won't release them, even if they decided to lower the edition size. Think of all the costs associated with that.
6. Which brings me to my next point... Have you seen some of the reviews on the dolls on youtube? A lot of people are saying that some of these dolls are worth more than $100, I am certainly one of them. Have you looked at the Coronation Anna and Snow Gear Anna dolls? These things are so intricately made and that takes a lot of effort. First you have the designers who have to design them, then you have the research done on the material, the many experimentation, then the whole production line. Creating new face molds sometimes, rooted eyelashes, embroidery, stitching.... Then let's move on to the boxes! And finally, it is not cheap shipping these dolls from China, to the US warehouse, and then from the US warehouse to the store. Then you have Error pieces. Hair styling... The utility costs associated with making these dolls. Oh, and don't forget the quality inspection people. So creating these dolls is certainly not cheap as they go through many employees who need to be paid. And I don't think that Disney wants "Labor abuse" to be planted against their name. Lastly, you are also paying for the edition size. Edition Sizes bring in value, Lady Tremaine, the cheapest on eBay is $300, do you think she's worth that? She lacks every shred of detail, but her price point is high because she is one of 1500. Yes, $120 is a lot of money, but this is the nature of the hobby. Being a collector is a miserable job, but you know what you're getting into before hand.

Sorry, I just had to talk about this because it's been bothering me. This forum used to be a nice place to talk about these products and to discuss what we like about don't like about them in a constructive manner. We used to say what we liked about them, joke and stuff. Now it's all about how the prices are too high or the Frozen obsession is high. I want to go back to the good days. Not the cynical thread that is the LE 17" Doll thread.

Enough complaining, more discussing.
 
So wait, do you actually like this line? Usually your critiques on the dolls are negative. Not that there's anything wrong with sharing your opinion; I just always thought you didn't really care for these dolls (but you get stuck buying them for family members).

As a collector, I understand the frustrations of wanting an overlooked character or being sick of the same ones on repeat. Since you don't collect them, you won't take the business decisions as personally; they don't affect you. I agree that the petition is a bit... premature, but there's nothing wrong with venting our frustrations together--especially when the LE collectors among us feel the same way about something.

No one is saying anything to annoy anyone else or to attack anyone. This is more like a collecting support group
