Just wanted to let everyone know. I was at DLR yesterday. The barrels outside of Westward Ho are gone. Pin trading including Come Out and Trade from 1PM - 3PM has been moved to the Big Thunder Ranch Arena. There are some cast members pin trading back there and there is a pin trading cart. And of course lots of tables to set up.

This should be interesting. Do you think pin traders with those heavy books will head over there for a few hours, then head over to LGM for the rest of the day? I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I'm in the park. This should be interesting.

There is no foot traffic back there. I don't think many traders will be happy. LGM might become a more popular place.

Sounds neat! I wanna play pin games! How do those work by the way?

Bein the parks tomorrow should be fun! What about the sharks giving fakes at Come out and Trade? Are they there or what!? Anyone know first hand?

Yes, the sharks put fakes onto the boards/books during all hours. I know some very well known traders that post here and in DLR that trade scrappers onto lanyards.

As long as there are tables where people can sit down, I think it's a good change! I still miss when we used to trade outside the pavillion, of course that's Jolly Holiday now!

They started getting moody with is when it was parade/fireworks time and they wanted to put ropes where we were trading. That place is dead, LGM is the spot now I think.

Hey I think you guys are missing a great opportunity!! If there is more room, more tables and shade too! that's terrific! ... and if everyone spreads the word, the pin traders will follow! There may not be as much foot traffic as Westward Ho but there is still a lot of people strolling by ... and think how nice it would be to have more tables and chairs for more people to really look through everyones' trades?? I like the idea! Wish I could visit soon ... but will most likely have to wait until October. Take care, *bjr

all I am saying, is give it a chance....

You guys are thinking about this all wrong. Disney is giving us more space, and from the sounds of it, more tables in an area that has shade, and decent music. They brought back trade books, CMs are there playing games when Disney could have them elsewhere doing something that does not benifit you at all.

LGM is the place to go? ALL of you are going to fight over 4 tables in a loud, crowded area of the park, that is right next to a popular kids ride.. Which mean little kids want to poke, prode, spin, touch and gumm up your collection.

There may not be foot traffic now, but as word gets out, more traders will start stopping back there, and who will be there to greet them? Who will get those great trades because you folks are to resistant to change? Who will be comfy is a shadier spot at a table with room to set your stuff down, and something to sit on other than hard, dirty rock walls? Until my pass expires... me.

Just my 2 cents,I am not meaning to come off upset or lecturing, but really, why don't you want to even give it a chance?

I totally agree with Psycho Pixie, give it a chance. I am all for tables to sit at and shade. I will be there on Friday to check it out. :)

Guess I will be checking the new area out, first hand, tomorrow.

Potential Positives:

* No more directing dancing tourists to the nearest restroom
* Conveniently close to the coloring area with Woody and Jessie
* Yummy smells of BBQ (might a negative if I'm really hungry)
* No Westward Ho directly in front of me, whispering in my ear to come buy one more Mystery Box set
* There is a big stage back there for live Goofy-Auctions!
* Mystical Goats who can be consulted on the authenticity of suspect pins! (Baaaaaaaad!) (Friendly head to fist bump for good pins)

Potential Negatives:

* Disney experiences a higher number of "accidents", because there were no pin traders directing dancing tourists to the restroom
* Down turn in impulse sales at Westward Ho, due to lack of proximity to pin traders getting tourists interested in pin trading
* Smell of BBQ torturing me, when I'm hungry and broke from a PODM release
* There are limited colored crayons at the coloring station, which limits my full potential
* Not properly compensating the Mystical Goats for numerous pin consultations may result in a vicious head-butt to the crotch

All in all, not a bad deal. Gotta remember to Zap those Mystical Goats, if I utilize their services ;)

I'm not saying I wont give it a chance - i will prob go on thursday - i just think that as far as trading with "new" people it will take away a lot of that. Which was one of my fav parts of table trading. I think that the non locals wil have a hard time finding the new place. In fact they may walk by the old place see that it is not there anymore and just assume that disneyland doesnt do it anymore. I am looking forward to the shade and plenty of space aspect. but it will be ineresting to see how this affects it.

Hahhahaha - Maybe Woody and Jessie will trade with us! :0)

It really depends on each individual person. Some people like to trade with their friends and other traders. Some like to trade with interested newbies just passing by and having a look. And so on. There are definitely some that will like it more and some less. Like anything else in life.

Besides, there is always LGM for those that want to trade more with the average Disney guest.

on trading and our community: long post....

So, today spur of the moment, we went to DLR....

Big thunder ranch report::

  • no round trade tables for "us" but several picnic tables with shade ubrellas.
  • pin kiosk to help those with pinbuying disease.
  • a small snack and beverage stand.
  • pin "games" times 2. cute, but hmm.. could do better.
  • tonns of CM lanyards.
  • Not.One.Trader. Set.Up.... and yet LGM was hoppin'.

We pin traders as a community seem incredibly resistant to change. In the course of my day, I heard these things from my fellow traders, both in convo and overheard... Not my words here::
  • It sucks, In a week Disney will realize it and give us tables at WWH again.
  • They did it to punish us for causing security issues recently.
  • Now I won't be able to get new traders to buy me pins. (yup, said in a joke tone, but this person has a rep for that)
  • Disney is going to get rid of pin trading completely, and this is the first step.
  • A cast member told me that it was not set up back there for pin traders at all, just for the shows and stuff.
  • Little green men is next, pin trading is over and disney wants us gone.

Wow. Let me just say this, Disney has no reason to "get rid of pin trading", not yet anyway. Disney makes a tonn of money off us. However, if we act like spoiled children, stomping our feet and refusing to use this wonderful new area, why would they keep it set up for us? You can bet managers are watching our numbers in BTMR to see if it will succeed. If we continue to fight at tables, cause problems during early like ups for releases, and take advantage of guests who are new to the trade, Disney will have every reason to discontinue trade tables at DLR/DCA.

we DPF members are a large force to be reconned with if we work together. Most of the things I listed above as reasons for disney to stop being nice to our community could be stopped.. If we work together. And the instigators are known arent they?
I have a thought, almost a dream really:
  • What if you firmly refused to allow line cutting at releases and got CMs involved to stop the repeat offenders?
  • What if instead of complaining to city hall, we went to them with ideas and suggestions?
  • What if we as a group started quietly shunning those who were proven counterfiet sellers/traders? Not even looking at thier books when they show up?

I want to bring community back to pin trading. I want it to be less about the money and more about the fun of trading/collecting. I realize there will be sellers, oh well, its a hobby, and money can be made. But perhaps we as a group can help those sellers learn our community rules.
