Dear fellow Disney Pin Forum members,

First, I know this should probably be in "Anything Goes" but I believe it will see more eyes here. Second, I know that this community has come together to help those in tough times and this is one of those times.

It has come to my attention that one of our fellow DPF members needs serious assistance. This member doesn’t like to ask for help so I offered to do so since I have no problem asking people for assistance on behalf of others. This member is being forced to move from their residence and needs to move in less than three months.

I’m not all that familiar with the “good†and “bad†areas of Orange County but the member is looking for a 2 bedroom apartment in Orange County, preferably close to Disneyland or where the 5 and 405 meet, for under $1200. I have checked Craigslist for options but again, don't really know the area.

It may be possible to live in one large master bedroom with an attached bathroom that a couple and two small children (under 5) could fit into without it being a tight fit. So, a master bedroom in a large house would be great (or two bedrooms if they are “Jack†and “Jill†rooms, connected with a bathroom but this option is the least preferred.)

Also, any monetary donations are appreciated and would go towards moving expenses. In order to preserve this member’s confidentiality, all donations via PayPal GIFT can be sent to me at: starry_solo@yahoo.com and I will forward them onto the member, at least once a week on Sundays. Please remember to put “DPF donation†in the notes section so I know who it's for.

P.S. If you can think of any other ideas on how to help, please let me know! Local government agencies and private agencies have been contacted re: low income housing but there is a 2-year waiting list.

P.P.S. Also willing to take pin donations that can be sold here on DPF. I think they will need assistance for a while to help them get back on their feet!

I live in Orange County, and $1200 for that area is not very realistic. They exist, but in the really bad parts of Santa Ana, or Anaheim. You mentioned kids were involved, so I would not recommend it. She/he should maybe set their sites on something in the Inland Empire. There are good areas in Corona that are very close to the OC. The 91 freeway is a pain, but you get a lot more bang for your buck out there.
 
You could hold a pin game to raise some money wow I never knew how expensive California is for 1200 here you would get a very large house with fenced yard basement and garage
 
California is really expensive I am so sorry this has to happen to one of our great pin forum friends. I don't have much money but I will see what I can do this thur. Keep us posted I hope that everything works out.
 
Omg! For less then $1200 a month i live 10 minutes from the beach on a half acre in a 2300 squarefoot house with a 2 car garage and in ground swimming pool! How do people survive in California!?!? Li, send me their info, id like to help!

It really is Southern California prices (although parts of Northern California are pricey too!) I have to figure out a pin game to do, I was considering asking for donations of pins too and then selling them but am not sure how long that would take and the assistance is needed within the next 70 days. I will send a PM.

We had discussed the family moving out to the Inland Empire but one person's job (whose hours have been cut but it is still a job!) is in Orange County. With the cost of gas, the toll roads, etc., the savings (if any) would be minimal.

I am wondering if there are some hotels where one could reside for a while, maybe extended stay hotels/motels...let me go do some more research
 
$1200 a month would buy you a descent home in Vegas. My home is small and we do not have much money, but I would consider a pin or food type donation. We will be going to Cali in March and could drop stuff off too. Maybe if we could provide food they could save their money for the move? I don't know but I always try to help others when I can. $1,200 a month is only rental money in nice parts of California for a decent one bedroom. Once you move away from Los Angeles or Orange County then rental prices can drop below $1,000 but not by much. I own a home and pay over three times that for a monthly mortage in Los Angeles.
 

Not surprised. You can pay that ($3000/month) for a nice home in Corona (Riverside county) too if you want a house in a "nicer" part of town. Then there's property taxes (Mello Roos since all the new homes come with that), school bonds to pay for, etc!

It is not easy for sure. Our household is of 11 in a modest sized house- originally my sister and her family were only going to be with us temporarily, but times are showing us that the best choice cost wise is to share the rent and utilities and just stick together. Even still it's a tight budget, but we are working through it :hs:

Okay, checked with the family, yes donations of non-perishable food are always welcome. Examples are: canned fruits and veggies, canned chicken, boxed foods like pasta roni, rice a roni, brown rice, hamberger helper, chicken helper

My friend in Fullerton did a one bedroom with a roommate. They turned the dining room into a bedroom. I'd imagine it'd be tough with four but there were plenty of families in that complex living in similar situations. I had another friend living in an OK part of Anaheim in a two bedroom apartment for around $1600 if I recall. Try looking in the area around Disneyland especially to the east. It's a safe area.
 
Oh god, I'm so sorry. I feel this pain too ): With my uncle finally coming home we're going to have to find a bigger house with /less/ rent. Ours is only 1,100$ a month for a teeny tiny 3 bedroom home that's falling down ;A;


Did they look around um...like if you take Lincoln-->to Harbor then like 4-5 streets to the left is a lot of low income housing.
 

Unfortunately, the occupancy limits that apartment complexes typically impose is 2 people per bedroom so a 1 bedroom won't work. Let me figure out what is east and I'll look around there (bad with directions as far as E, W, N, S go, until I remember which direction the freeway heads!)
 
I have to check with the parents to make sure it is okay to post our P.O. box for donations; I'm sure it will be okay, but will need to make sure. I am sending PMs to people individually with info.
 
 
Fullerton generally has slightly cheapter apartments/rooms/etc due to the large college population.

Anyways, I'm going to ask if my girl scout troop can do something to help be it collect clothes, donations, etc.

to all the ppl that think its crazy to live here in cali. Its all about were you live. What town and even what part of town. Here were i live (2 hours from dlr) you could have a 4 bedroom house with pool and nice big back yard for kids. all for $1000. shoot.. u could buy a place for about the same price. but its not the OC and its not mins away from DLR. well 120mins away. lol but anyways. its about were u live and what you are willing to give up. I moved from the nicest part of cali (SB) to this smaller country town. Went from a 1 bedroom apt that was 1200 a month to a 3 bed room house with big yard for $1000. would i rather b at the beach in SB.. hick yea... but can i aford it.. hick no. so i moved to a place i can start to move up from.

agian i hope it works out and that u all find a new place.
