As a collector for almost 10 years, I often wonder about what direction the various Disney web site(s) are going with relationship to the pin hobby. So I just counted up the pins being offered today and I was a bit surprised!

Total Pins on site = 162

Out of the 162, 134 are "Disney Park Authentic" (i.e. available in Parks). 16 of the 162 are "D23 Membership required", leaving ONLY 12 pins as TRUE DS.com releases.

Given some of the DS.com pins are very nice, but expensive "Sets" - I think the pickings are pretty slim as of today.

Hopefully this will change in the future.

Despite most pins available being park pins, I'm quite impressed by the selection DS.com has to offer, and also having park pins available online, I guess it would make it easier if you don't get to visit the parks much. Although, the only site I have to compare it to is DS.co.uk, with it's wonderful selection of only 2 consistantly available pin items. :P

I looked not too long ago and was so disappointed in the selection. I miss the ds as it was about 4 years ago. I lived for those weekly pin releases and sales. I hate looking on there and seeing all the park pins. I am not into those at all so I find it quite boring. :-(.

I guess it's good to make Park Pins available to collectors who can't get to the Parks. I miss the "Free Shipping on Mondays" days of the online Store as well as the TRUE Semi-Annual Sales where pins were really discounted. Also miss when Disney held Pin Auctions for the LE 100 pins. It was great the way they sold 75 in the sets and 25 individually so that you could just Bid on the pin you wanted without spending $130 + for a whole set. "Those were the Good Old Days"!!

Well, as I'm trying to look on the postive side these days, the ony good thing is I get to sleep in on Mondays instead of having to set my alarm for 3 AM. And that is the ONLY good thing I can say.

Word. That, and we save a LOT of money. Although I'm sacrificing the potential for pins for that money, I know which my husband would rather have. :D

I agree with TiggerSue. I miss the Disney Auction pins. They are still some of the nicest pins that Disney has made.
