I have decided to try and collect the DSF Marquees and had a question about some of the release. Since I started collecting, I've seen the Avengers and Brave marquee release. Both of these marquees had coordinating pins with them that were really nice and fit nicely with the movie.

I was wondering what about movies marquees like John Carter, Ocean, or The Last Song? Did DSF one release the marquee that day or where there other pins for the movie or did the marquee get released with other pins that had nothing to do with the movie on the marquee.

I was just curious.

Thank you.

Unless its a smaller film. Like the Secret world of arrietty. It's the only pin for the movie at all.

also depends if it's an anniversary or somthing of the movie.

I think with Arrietty they only bought the rights for the distribution of the film outside of Japan and not any merchandising rights. That's probably why we only get a Marquee and one without any character images on it.

I don't know when Disney will license anymore Ghibli films. The newest Ghibli film, Up On Poppy Hill will be distributed in the Unitd States by GKIDS.

as far as I know, disney nature Oceans was also a marquee only release. You will also notice some movie get multiple marquees. : think that is one design per release. So, Little mermaid has 3? marquees: 1~original release. 2~dvd release. 3~ re-release... I thought there were 4 of these....

I believe all of the DSF Marquee pins went along with the movie being shown at the El Capitan - the 1st two, Ursula (09/02/06 - a Saturday) and Ariel (09/07/06 - a Thursday release???) were released at the same time. The DVD release of Little Mermaid was Oct 3, 2006 - I suspect "The Cap" had a special Limited Engagement showing for The Little Mermaid in September '06 (which they have done for a few other DVD releases too).

The Little Mermaid original release was November 1989. From the pages of History of the El Capitan Theatre:

In 1989, The Walt Disney Company joined forces with Pacific Theatres to begin a two-year archeological dig, which led to a museum-quality restoration of the legendary palace. Under the supervision of the National Park Service's Department of the Interior, and with guidance from conservator Martin Weil, architect Ed Fields, and renowned theatre designer Joseph J. Musil, the certified national historic site was restored to its former grandeur and reopened to the public in June, 1991, with the world premiere of Walt Disney Pictures' "The Rocketeer."

DSF opened its doors on June 22, 2005 and they had pins right out of the gate http://pinpics.com/cgi-bin/pin.cgi?pin=39448
