DSF PTD Thoughts
Disney and lawsuits =
th

Any company would think about lawsuits. I'm sure Disney does, but not as much as people here seem to think.

If the alley next to DSF doesn't belong to DSF, then Disney has no responsibility for it. Same as the sidewalk, so what if someone falls on it in front of DSF (pretty sure that belongs to the city) and you can be sure that Disney doesn't give in quickly to lawsuits, otherwise it would be an invitation to get sued more.

Because they not only acknowledge the "line" in the alley, they provide security AND allow them access to the DSF in the middle of the night to use the bathrooms they are in fact responsible for any and all injuries or other lawsuits that can and most likely will come about. Considering the shark pool out there someone will slip and fall, be emotionally damaged by a homeless person or sexually assaulted by a security guard on a trip to the restroom. This seems like the most basic principal PROTECT YOUR SELF, yet they are opening up to the types of lawsuits that juries LOVE. Oh Disney let a family sleep in the filthy alley for three nights because they want to buy pins from their store because they are a greedy corporation, well lets punish big business with this multi-million dollar award + punitive damages (to teach them a lesson and make them not do that again)

Bad bad bad business all around. Really Disney let families sleep in an alley in Hollywood to shop at your store?

I think it's sad were seeing less and less people selling the pins at cost or close to it. Something for your time, gas, pin for yourself ect... is one thing. It's getting harder and harder for the average Joe to get these pins. I own no beloved tales. I am getting my first one this time because I got lucky to get my pm in first. I will cherish because it something I collect.

Even "a pin for yourself" is double! I personally cannot afford to finance someone elses pin collection.

I don't have a problem with it though because there the ones spending there time, taking off work ect.. But I wouldn't pay triple to quadrapule no way. We can agree to disagree on that part though. Otherwise I think most of what you said is right on.

Even "a pin for yourself" is double! I personally cannot afford to finance someone elses pin collection.

While I guess if you think about it in the larger sense in terms of whole sets it does seem like a lot (a set of 4 that retails at $60 would end up being $120) if you think about it at the bare level, $30 for some of these pins ESPECIALLY BT's is not bad...AT ALL. I understand that it can be hard to afford some of these pins, but double at cost seems pretty fair to me IF you choose the ones you really want. If you can't prioritize and you try to get the whole set, then yes, I can see over $100 being a lot. However, if you consider the person (especially for this upcoming BT set) waited outside for much more than 20 hours in hopefully good weather to get you these pins, the least I would think about doing is financing their set as well.

However, I can see the point where each BT alone going for $100 might be a bit overboard. That is not only financing their pin ($15), your pin ($15), but $70 on top of that PER pin...I know gas in CA is pricey but $70 extra per pin seems a bit drastic to me at least ^_^ Considering I've never gone to a DSF release, I guess I can't judge how much I'd want someone to pay for me and my mom (she always comes on account of her not trusting me and wanting to experience these things haha) to wait outside for such a long time xP

resellers are not really the topic here... I think we need to go back to discussing the idea's for making these pins last longer and not sell out at breakneck speed. :)

haha True, true. I think the best way to possibly do this is to increase edition size. I mean, it is the only surefire option I see as a way to make pins last longer that is still fair to everyone and can simultaneously please everyone ^_^

I just wanted to put a little perspective on this too.

It costs me roughly 60$ in gas to go to DSF and home. Parking is only 2$. Then waiting for 3-4 hours hopefully being in the 150 mark. If I buy a set if pins (Say BTs) at 14.99 (Tax on 12.95 in Hollywood makes the pins exactly 14.99) that's 60$.

Which means I am spending a total of 122$ to pick up my set. If I am there for a long release then 134$ because parking will be 12$.

THIS MEANS. If you live where I LIVE. You are paying MORE to go get them yourself then paying someone else closer for yours AND their pins.

This is also at COST!

So if I charge you 30$ a pin, I make 60$ back. So my gas is covered. Since I don't have money I would have to invite my grandma in order to buy 2 sets more to cover my pins. also when my grandmother comes I have to park in the 20$ parking not the 2 so my cost for just travel is now 80$.

140$ is my pins, gas and parking. Alos if we're going to be there for a big release we will need food, and for my grandma's time and to help her feel better after the long car ride she will ALWAYS get a PTD. It is the least I can do.

So if my total cost is about say 180, for parking, gas, food and a PTD, I sell 3 sets for 2x cost that's 360$ - 180 for the price of the actual PINS I AM GIVING YOU and the OTHER PEOPLE.

Which means I break even.

Well, it ACTUALLY DOESN'T. I still have to ship you the pins. Even buying for 1 person I am now NEGATIVE 5.80 FOR A FLAT RATE BOX.

Factor in time and effort, and for some being out in freezing rain, hail or fighting off bums.

EDIT:

And if I'm not in the first 150, I have to refund the cost of the pins I can't pick up. I am now short.

okay that completely lost me. lol Can you just explain it on what you you approx an actual cost for the set of four beloved tales would be to cover your costs. I would understand that better. lol

My total cost is about 130 if I go alone.

If I pick up for someone at 2x the cost my everything is covered except roughly parking and my pins. If I want my pins covered I have to invite someone to go with me. My cost jumps to about 180.

It takes 3 people to FULLY cover my cost at ONLY 2x the pins price. So 30$ a pin.

But that means I have to SELL 12 pins for 30$. And this doesn't include shipping.

In short if YOU lived were I live you would need to pick up for 3 people, bring a friend and charge roughly 40$ per pin to have everything from shipping, pins, parking, gas, food and if the pins are the ONLY thing you believe my time is worth then you have just priced my service for waiting in the morning/traffic/rain/hail at 60$ or LESS.

There you have it...someone who lives further away with so much more at stake taking her elderly grandmother with her to these lengthily DSF releases and yet she can still afford to sell for prices way closer to retail than anyone else here. On top of always being willing to take a slight loss. That's what it is to be a genuine generous person. There's no hidden agenda because she breaking it down for you on exactly what is coming out her pocket.

Than there's people who live minutes away getting 'handfuls' of pins that are limited to one per customer and still they can't help anyone else out. If you wanna charge crazy prices than take it to eBay IMO. Don't do that to DPF members here. If people here want them that bad than they'll spend the crazy amounts on eBay and sharks still get there money and get happy. Instead they stick around DPF to sneakily scheme and get even more pins to rip people off with. Smh

What gives you the right to label what makes a good person and what doesn't? It's not our job to satisfy everyone. There are people who go above beyond for people but that's their choice, it's nobody's obligation to do so.

Yeah, I agree with this. Honestly you could easily sell the pins on Ebay for those price (Kevin for close to $100, April BT's for around $400 a set) but listing them on DPF for Ebay prices will only spark unnecessary drama, disappoint people, and won't get sold and you'll have to keep bumping it. Not only that, but when I see a thread that says in the Sale Thread the pin that I want in the title and I click on it all excited only to see that it is an Ebay price, I get really disappointed :( I mean, as said by many, if I wanted to pay that price, I'd have done it already on Ebay who listed it for that price days ago.

Back on topic, does anyone have any opinions on making the LE size larger? Nobody responded to the last time I posted it so I figured why not put it back up ^_^ food for thought.

First off, I think there were some really good suggestions to make it more fair for you all to get your PTDs.

Second, How did this turn into another I can't get Cali pins whine fest? Novel thought, vote with your wallet. I REFUSE to buy those pins at the prices people are charging. I am not at all upset that I can't get them. I'm over that. A piece of metal isn't worth the time or the heartache. People get lost in the hype and NEED what they think everyone else has.

No one is labeling anyone as anything or whining for that matter. If you don't like my comment than make use of the ignore button; that's the easiest and quickest fix since some of you have a really difficult time allow others to express their feelings and opinions. It's really annoying how others are continually trying to censor people here. This is a public forum and I will participate as I please. I don't see a problem as long as I remain respectful and civil!

I have no qualms with anyone here and I'm most certainly not into this internet bullying bs! So get over it and keep it moving! I haven't asked you for any favors Nathan and I don't even know you Shannon. Neither of you have ever reached out to me to even give me a hi and hello; let alone a trade or decent sale. Nor would I EVER expect anyone here to feel obligated to do so. However, I will be damned if you think you can stop me from expressing my opinion or putting up a thread requesting help to acquire wanted pins from others. At the end of the day, that's other people's choices and if I don't get a pin I want, its not going to make me loose one wink of sleep: as its just a pin.

Nathan95 we have yet to have a decent conversation and you just enjoy throwing those punches my way every time I post something. I see nothing wrong in me affirming that Carissa is a genuine generous person. I never said everyone else here is a rip off. So please stop twisting my words around and trying to stir the pot! I'm so sick and tired of your desperate attempts to get me to bicker with you. If you don't like me...than too bad! Deal with it like a grown man or message me and work it out. You must be feeling unbelievably guilty to always have something to say to me when ever I talk about the screwed up DSF policies and pin releases.

You WOULDNT know me. I have been absent from the boards for months. I came back YESTERDAY, so I'm very sorry if I haven't had a chance to say hi, let alone a trade or sale! I never quoted you in my post. I never named a single name, but you seem to want to call me out for voicing MY opinion. Thanks for that. It works both ways. I never said people shouldn't voice their opinion. I DID say to make your voices be heard by closing your wallets. You read way more into my post than is there. It's just very sad to come back to a community that was so welcoming and seeing it falling apart.

Sorry thought you were insinuated I was whining. Sorry if I included you in the post I just wanted to clarify I wasn't whining...just sharing an opinion. This thread is called "DSF PTD Thoughts" after all isn't it? :P

Btw you aren't the only one disappointed to see how much things have changed over time. People are way more defensive here because bullying, calling people out and blatant rudeness is becoming so abundant now.

At this point, the way I look at it is I don't care anymore. I tried speaking out against it now I keep to myself and as long as you don't cross me the wrong way I don't see a problem. I am not, however, go to sit back and be passive if people are going to continually try to belittle me (not directed at anyone in particular).

I just want to say why some of the over priced pins turn me off. I by far by into this evil So Cal theory either. I have seen several of them do great things around here. I wouldn't dare to mention names, and run the risk of leaving someone out. But I have been able to buy pins at almost cost from DL and that is in its self a huge help. Anyway I just wanted to say that. If it was in Chicago, people would be saying about us darn Chicago people. lol But at least I would be happier with some awesome pins.

We probably really have derailed this poor thread enough and I won't do so anymore. Sorry.

Lol... Why do posts always turn into drama? Seriously, if you have nothing better to do with your life than obsess over pins then there's something wrong. Also, while I dislike the prices on some pins... it's supply, demand, and location. We can't all have our cake and eat it too. Yes life is unfair, yes some people have the advantage but they also spend their time, money, and dignity by camping in a unhygienic alley to get the pins. You should all know how this works by now, why keep complaining about it? Why bad mouth people? Either suck it up or wait until the hype and prices go down or buy it and frame it and if its a good investment then it might be worth more later on.

I still don't get how people expressing their opinion in a thread called "DSF PTD Thoughts" in pin discussion is a problem? People really need to learn to be a little more open minded to a contrary remark or opinion. People don't always agree with me and that's ok...I don't see them as being "dumb" or "whiners." Let them vent all they want...once it gets to the point where they annoy me beyond my tolerance threshold I just put them on my ignore list.

"People can't have their cake and eat it too?" That's funny...that's pretty much what it means to be a CA resident near DL & DSF lol. You guys get everything...as there is no more Disney Auctions, DisneyShopping.com or many pins released on DisneyStore.com now-a-days. Either way, I'm happy for you all! Really I am! Your the ones that have to brave the cold, ally-ways, bums, crowds and attitudes to get yourself a pin and even a trader. Major props to all you that deal with that!

I do have a problem with people getting 10-20 of each pin that is meant to be 1 per customer though. Especially when there used as an advantage against other traders here. That's just me though and I already know who I can and cannot do business with here. I'm just a little extra passionate about pin collecting sometimes. It's not my life though so I have no problem apologizing if I've done anything wrong...so again I'm sorry if I offended any of you. It is just pins though :/
