eBay - 14 day BUYING ban and all negative feedback removed.

I have one for you . I sold a Disney Halloween Cookie Jar . She received it October 13th . She sends me a message today to say she received it destroyed. She went on to say that she couldn't contact me sooner because the storm knocked her power out . Ummm, the storm was October 30th .
First I had to open a dispute on her to get payment and now this. I contacted Paypal before I even messaged her back . They put me on the phone with an eBay rep . He agreed something sounds fishy as she received it on October 13th, well over two weeks before Sandy and now 3 days after Halloween .
I sent her a message letting her know I contacted EBay/ Paypal for seller protection as its been sometime since she received the item . I'll let you know how I make out .

As large of a company that EBay is, we should be afraid because we all just click, that we've read their rules, but that would actually take who knows how long.

had to lol at this one. If it was me.. i would have said you are full of shi? and send me a pic of the box with top open and stuff inside just how u got it. i would think its not broke and if it is.. its not my falt. I used to ship about 100 boxes a day when i still ran the motercycle web site. You shour hear sum of the storys i have been told over the years. lol

Before everyone gets all up in arms over this and at the risk of getting slammed myself, remember there are two sides to every story. I have a hard time believing ebay just blocks people who have a legitamate complaint and went through the proper channels to resolve it. I'm not saying this is the case here, but just because a person claims a pin is a scrapper doesn't always mean it truly is a scrapper. Cry wolf too many times and there are consequences.

But like I said, I don't know what the situation here is, just remember we're only hearing one side. There's no need to arm the villagers with pitchforks and torches to storm the eBay castle.

I agree, as someone who has bought and sold thousands of items on eBay it nice to hear they are finally giving the sellers some protection. I actually quit selling things on eBay a few years ago became almost impossilble to do so, a buyer could leave negative feedback for any reason yet the seller is only able to leave positive feedback. There is almost no situation in which a buyer can't return something, decide you don't like it say it wasn't described correctly and send it back. The seller is out the time and money it took to sell in addition to the shipping costs.

It should be no secret to anyone that there are scrappers, fakes, and junk pins for sale on eBay so if you make the choice to purchase on eBay then buyer beware. As far as I know there is no official word from Disney on what is and what isn't a real Disney pin so dispite all of the evidence that people think they know someone could sell a pin they purchased at WDW that was poor quality, we all know those exist, sell it on eBay and then get negative feedback and have the hassle of a return becuase a "pin expert" deemed it a fake.

Also before anyone calls the govenor, the president, or the pope please remeber that there is no legal obligation or requirment to buy or sell on eBay. If you don't like the site then move on.

Ebay has automatic protections... So likely what happened is exactly as the OP describes... To many cases opned to quickly, so it automatically red flags and halts activity. Unfortunatly, even if you have legit reasons to believe those sellers were scrap/counterfiet dealers, until ebay figures it out, they have to automatically halt activity. Gotta protect the sellers interests as well as the buyers. Too many opened cases at once is cause for suspicion. Sorry it happened that way.... Its hard figuring out what is a good deal and what is too good to be true.

My rules for ebay buying: "yellow alert"
Less that 2.00 a pin is to good to be true.
"lots" of pins with no picture of actual pins being recieved, not safe.
seller who has sold several of the same pin over and over.... not safe.

There are exceptions to the rules of course, but ya gotta be careful with those yellow alerts.

I used to wonder about this as well until I made the mistake of buying from an incredibly petty seller. I left positive feedback (4-stars all around) but made a comment that shipping took 3-4 weeks. Well, they sent back a scathing e-mail saying that they would have left negative feedback for me if eBay allowed it. Not denying anything I said, but SOOO mad that I actually told the truth. I sent back an e-mail saying that sellers like them are the EXACT reason eBay made this rule! You should have seen the reply I got back. Let's just say that it was obvious that eBay does not have profanity filter for their messaging!!

If you would like pics of some of the pins I can provide a couple.

I've dealt with 3 bad sellers and 11 good ones. One of the 3 bad ones reported me I have now found out. And all their negative feedback except for one is removed, not just from me. I do know the difference between a scrapper (like the Ezra that the border doesn't go all the way around the pin, you know, the scrapper version) and real pins. I made a mistake at the beginning of buying them on eBay and am now paying for it. 70+ good transactions from 11 sellers since the 33 bad ones from 3 sellers.

EBay in our most recent call said it was my fault for buying the counterfeit pins. Even if the pictures weren't what they sent.

Oh, and believe me, I'm pretty much done with EBay since I will not be protected from bad sellers anymore.

I suspect, if eBay had you return the pins to the _seller_, then they didn't fully understand that they were _counterfeit_. They just took it as 'not as described', and probably thought you were abusing the return system for some reason with so many complaints filed.

If eBay/PayPal understands that the item is counterfeit (as in, illegal to sell), they will have you return to the items to THEM (eBay/PayPal) for destruction, not back to the seller so they can just re-sell them. If you want to stop them, you need to make sure eBay understands that what the seller is doing is ILLEGAL, not just something you disagree with... It will probably ultimately take action from Disney to make eBay do something about it though. And, the fact that they are so cheap (on an individual basis, anyway), probably keeps it low on their radar... But when you talk to them, only use the word counterfeit and fraudulent... Don't even suggest something like 'they just don't look good enough to be real pins'. Sound like you KNOW they are being manufactured illegally.

I can understand why their automated system flagged your account, but you should be able to explain it to them and talk your way out of it...

In the future, use a credit card through PayPal to pay for the items, and if they are counterfeit, file the chargeback through your credit card company. THEY know how to handle it... (If you pay with a credit card, you are ALWAYS protected.... eBay/PayPal can't take that away from you.)

Dalisair keep up the good work. Last year I bought several lots on EBay from sellers I suspected of selling counterfeit pins. I inspected the pins and confirmed that my suspicions were true. I reported each seller to EBay for selling counterfeit pins. I also reported each seller to ICE, I included there EBay ID and there real name and address. I kept all the pins. They are still sitting on the shelf in my office. Never heard back from EBay or ICE. I have heard rumours of on going investigations. ABC action news has an ongoing theme about MADE IN AMERICA I sent them an email asking them to do a story on counterfeit Disney pins from China. They sent me a nice form letter.
