Hello DPF,

When I started the beginnings of my marquee collection a wonderful DPF member Nathan (Nathan95) gave me a list of things that could help any fellow marquee collector. That is what really encouraged me to start collecting them and I feel that more people who are interested in collecting marquees should have seen.

Below is what he (Nathan 95) posted and it is very helpful.

+1 most people want older marquees for older marquees or outlandish things for them. Prepare yourself for a hell of a ride because they're not an easy thing to collect. If you really want to collect them it's easier if they're the only thing you collect or else is going to be a pain. They're a thing of patience because they're easier to obtain when they come to you rather when you come to them. I'm not trying to tell not to collect them because they're really neat pins they're just a chore to get. If you want to be a completeist my advice to to you is to:
1. Work on them 1 at a time, it's a lot easier to do it that way
2. Work on getting the easier ones first then work on the the hards ones (if you go for the hard ones first it becomes really frustrating)
3. Save up some $ because you're not going to get all of them through trading, unfortunately you're going to have to buy some
4. Don't get in the mind set that you're going to get them all easy because it's not going to happen, there are guys who've been collecting them for years that don't have a complete set.
5. Have fun with them, they're really neat pins and the hunt for them is the best so don't let it bother you that you can't obtain a certain one, it'll eventually come.
6. DONT TRADE ANY THEM OUT OF YOUR COLLECTION, I've made this mistake twice. Don't trade one out of your collection to upgrade and get a better one. You'll regret in the future.
7. Don't ask people if they're trading any of their marquees out of their collection, again I've made this mistake and I've gotten on people's bad side because of it
8. Get familiar with other marquee collectors, we're like a little club and we tend to look out for our friends who also collect marquees. Sometimes we even go out of our way to get one for a friend (thats not the case with EVERYONE)
9. When you go to a PTN make them your main priority. I've gotten maybe 60% of my collection from PTN
10. If you get an opportunity to get one fairly easy TAKE THAT OPPORTUNITY, don't pass up an easy offer
11. eBay doesn't determine the value of them all, they're some (example: the first Narnia, Santa Clause 3, Bridge to Terabithia) that are rarely on eBay and plus the prices that they're going for always changes.
12. Get extra marquees for trading, most people trade marquee for marquee
13. Don't rely on the newer ones to get older ones since they're all le 500 most people who want them can get them easy.
14. Hoard some of the newer ones, just because they're le 500 doesn't mean they're not worth anything. Most marquees trade better in the future than in the present. Tron is a 500 and it's a very good trader

Next Section is what in my opinion is the top ten rarest marquees:
(I would appreciate if people could kindly make suggestions if you do not agree with my top 10)

1. UP-
Although this pin has gone for less money than some other marquees in the past, it is notoriously know for being the HOLY GRAIL of all marquees. It has held its title for quit a while and I don't expect it to die down any time soon. Price ranges from $700-$1250

2. Enchanted- This pin was previously on eBay and went for over 1,000 dollars! With 167 people currently wanting it an 0 trading it, it makes it the second rarest. Last sold for $1,009.99.

3. Tangled- No surprise that Tangled is in the top 5. With Tangled being the most valued types of pins today the marquee is considered VERY rare. The pin is sought after both Tangled and Marquee collectors.
Price ranges from $300-$450. It has sold for $800.

4. Walle- Walle has always been a very rare marquee. With it having a neat backer card and a cool design it happens to be one of my favorites. It is another hard to get Pixar marquee. Price Ranges from $300-$350.

5. Ratatouille- Let me start off by saying that I have thought long and hard about if either Walle or Ratatouille should be 5th and I had to pick Ratatouille. There had not been a Ratatouille marquee on eBay in a while and one recently sold for over $500! (I think the backer card is AWSOME!). Price Ranges from $300-$500.

6. Cars 1- This marquee is a very nice marquee that features Lightning McQueen and Sally.
Although this pin is not that well known it is still very rare. Last sold on DPF for $300.

7. Meet the Robinsons- Meet the Robinsons is another one of those not so popular marquees but still VERY hard to find. I know a bunch of marquee completists on the forums had a hard time finding this pin and it was one of their last. Price ranges from $300-$350.

8. Bridge to Terabithia- People might try to argue this one but it is surprisingly very rare. One of the big reasons I put it in the top ten was because it was one of the last couple pins both Nathan95 AND Catburger (who are some of DPF's marquee completists) needed.
Price Ranges ? (Never seen it sold)

9. Narnia-The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe- This marquee is a rare marquee amongst many collectors. It is hard to find.
Price ranges from $200-$300.

10. Santa Clause 3- I could not come up with a marquee for 10 but then it hit me, this pin is not that known but it has recently gone on eBay for INSANE prices! Prices range from $300-$325.

I will keep updating the Top ten and their prices.

Next Section: I don't see enough marquees so I will post my collection here as it hopefully keeps on growing and you can post marquees right below.

It came!!! Enchanted! What a nice marquee
.

Underdog Came Today!!

Next Section: I will frequently be posting prices of recently sold marquees to help you know what to spend.

Tangled: $661

Bridge to Terabithia: $113

The Game Plan: $89

There are currently a bunch of marquees on eBay. Check them out!

Alright, so tell me what you think of some of the ideas I will be doing. I hope this can help people. I would like to thank Nathan95 once again for starting me with my marquee collection and always helping me when I have a marquee question.

Thanks,
Erik

Wow, a very nice guide in fact ^_^ I swore this was a joke thread and as soon as I opened it it was gonna say something like:

"You are gonna have to spend buttload of money...the end."

Awesome guide Erik and I appreciate that you took my advice and that it helped. But there's one error in the post; there were about 3 Ratatouille marquees that sold last summer for around $250-$300. Other than that i thought it was perfect!

Thanks for posting this thread and everything you have said is so true. Marquees were the first thing I started to collect as I'm a big movie buff so my pins tend to be more movie based (DSF marquees, Opening Day pins, movie anniversary pins). But I don't think my collection is enough to join this Marquee Collectors' Club. I have learned a lot about being patient and waiting and waiting for a marquee to come at the right price/trade. Wish I lived in So Cal so I could attend PTN to see what other marquees are out there.

My favorite marquee in my collection is Tron. I live how the marquee colors changed from the traditional red, yellow, and blue to be that Tron blue and the light cycle slider.

Thanks to people paying insane prices on eBay and not being patient, marquees over a year old are pretty much impossible to trade for. Everyone who can would rather cash in than trade. I think that may have been some peoples plan all along to jack up prices. Some people buy 2 or 3 of your "top 10" just to raise the price of the ones they already have or have for trade. Same thing happened recently to R/C girls. Same people buy multiples at higher and higher prices. Then someone gullible enough with enough disposable income pays it. I have all but given up on marquees (which I started collecting 2 years ago) thanks to these market manipulators and impatient people using resold DSF and WDI profits to boost prices.

The original list is Up, Enchanted, Tangled, and Walle. But Tangled and Walle are way more prevalent in the trading community than Up and Enchanted. Shaggy Dog for a time was also very difficult to find. last one sold for under $70 however. None of the others were over $100 just a year ago. In one year the prices have inflated to where they are due to a handful of people racing to one up each other with a new marquee or to get a bigger better collection than the other. It's too bad really. I think the marquee pins, even though they will continue to come out, will just turn into the "impossible collections to complete" along with DLRP PTN's, R/C girls, DP, LE100's, etc.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

I think that goes for all pins now a day Mark, but this is a great guide and sounds like a real challenge maybe I should dabble in Marquees for a bit lol

I feel like the phenomenon that Mark just talked about with the marquees is slowly happening with PTDs as well PTDs are becoming increasingly more valuable and are selling for much more than they did the past starting with the popularity of the Pascal PTD and some others as of recent

+1

on a side note I just got the Rapunzel PTD soooo cute lol

I have a really hard time believing that enchanted marquee went for a legit $1, 100. If so then good stuff to whoever won.

Yeah bro.. I feel what mark said is true with the enchanted marquee today.. I feel as if someone is purposely jacking up the prices.. I mean the times I've heard of it sell, was only for $200-300 ish. Josh from My D pins sold it for $200, then I hear a friend sell it for $300 around december or November.. Now $1000.. The jump in price seems a bit unreal. But it's possible I guess. There goes my hopes for that pin if every enchanted marquee owner decides to sell it at that price.

I really don't get why people choose to collect Marquees. As well as all those issues mentioned above in terms of actually obtaining them, the biggest issue for me is how varied they are. Some are gorgeous, like Up, Enchanted and Wall-E. Then some are just crap, like the Narnia one and the Terabithia one shown above. I feel bad for saying that, considering that people are still willing to pay $300+ for the ugly/plain ones, but that's just my opinion. Just another mystery concerning completists I guess.

Thank you so much! I will change the Ratatouille price range. Does this mean you think Walle should come before it?
