Thank you for sharing! We love learning about different pins we don't collect and how to trade them. its hard when its not what you collect to know what they are worth. i.e when your trying to trade for another trade

Mark could be right in this particular case. The same seller was selling 10 different Marquee pins. Nearly all of them were being bid up to some crazy levels. I was bidding on the Meet The Robinsons marquee but stopped as it looked like 2 bidders were just bidding up all the auctions just to bid them up. I wish eBay wouldn't hide bidders identities. It's made it much harder to identify the bad bidders. This just looked to suspicious to me (I'm not saying the seller was in on it). I feel the winners, if legit, paid artificially inflated prices.
 

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The two you mentioned as crap are two of my favorites. The same could be said of every collection. I think the BT Tangled pin is not a good looking pin. Many would disagree with me. It all depends on what appeals to each person individually.
 


I know it is hard to believe but the Enchanted marquee really did sell to a real marquee collector for 1,000. I know the person. He put in a crazy max bid and was not expecting it to hit this price.
 

Thank you so much! I know exactly what you mean. I never collected Beloved Tales and then I look on eBay and Little mermaid goes for $400!
 
Like Hollie said, its great to learn about other types of pin that I don't collect but still come across in trading, so thanks to Nathan and Erik for sharing all of their knowledge. Maybe this should be stickied?

It's just a coincidence the buyer starts with E and ends with R right?

I've been pointing out this new eBay phenomenon about two bidders sniping at extreme high "just to make sure I won" amounts. Even though neither meant to pay nearly that much. Then people automatically think the pin is worth that much. When neither intended to pay that much and the 2nd place person really won't pay over 70% of the end price for a second if listed.

 

Alright... I must come out and say it... I bought the marquee:facepalm:. Sorry I said my friend bought it, I just don't really want anyone to judge.

The point I was making is that not all of them are as nice as others, which is why I don't understand why people need all of them. If you were a BT completist, you would need the Tangled pin, even though you don't think it's a good-looking pin. That's all I'm saying.

Anyone to judge? It didn't break any of our legs or pick our pockets, why should it matter what you do with your money. If the pin is worth that much to you then it shouldn't matter what everyone else thinks. If I had that kind of money I wouldn't mind paying that much for it, it's NOWHERE to be found. Congrats on getting it!!

You aren't one of the two bidders I was referring to in the auctions. The one with 0 feedback is one (they recently changed their ID and have no feedback but are bidding really high amounts on marquees? That just seems fishy).

I'm glad you are able to afford to get something you really want. Not really in my budget to do something like that, but Enchanted is not one of the ones I have to worry about getting, fortunately.

yeah thats what i'm saying, i was looking at the bids too.. i mean it isnt necessary to be bidding up to 300 on the FIRST DAY that the pin was put up.. idk.. i feel like it wasn't a legit auction. that was rigged in my opinion.

LOL i still feel that people were bumping up the prices on all the marquees being sold.. wasn't saying the buyer was fake.. but the people bumping the prices consistently. i still have the auctions on "watch" list and i see the same names.
 
This thread makes me realize I shall likely never get my ratatouille or enchanted marquees for my respective collections... Sigh....

The irony is I don't know of anyone that collects ratatouille (besides me) and enchanted collectors have just recently started popping up in last month or two for some reason. Pin trends are so unpredictable.
 
This is actually pretty informative, so thanks for posting what you know. I think there's...two? Maybe two marquees on my wants list but no one seems to ever have them and I know I don't have anything worth trading with. I'll probably end up having to use the 'bay to get them, specifically the one I really, really want, but I've never seen it up for auction or sale. Ah, well. Maybe it'll happen someday.
 

Just remember the last things you said. Pin trends are unpredictable, which is true. At some point the money required to obtain marquees will be a deterrent to people starting a marquee collection. At the same time, some other unpredictable collection will become the next big thing, in part, because people will think it's attainable. People with partial marquee collections may want to move them so they can collect the next big thing. The next thing you know, you aren't competing against marquee collectors, and the other thing you said, there aren't a lot of Ratatouille collectors so limited competition there. Enchanted, may be problematic for longer since it does seem to be more people discovering the movie for the first time.

What remains unpredictable is timeline. Will the shift happen before or after you stop collecting. (that's a generic you, for everyone collecting anything in demand right now)
 
Just an FYI the last Tangled Marquee sold for $800 on eBay 3/16/13. There's one currently listed for $850 OBO. The price is definitely much more than $300-450

I understand what you are saying. It is just that they really average $450. People think that the $800 was fishy but you never know. I will add that it recently sold for $800. Thanks for the FYI.
 


Which two marquees? Someone might be able to help you find them.
