I really wish they would get away from using the rubber. I don't like how it looks and it does get dirty very easily. I am wondering what they will look like years from now. Will the rubber get hard and crumble?
Just like everyone else, I too hate the free D-element on pins as well. I have never had the rubber fall of of pins but when it gets dirty or stained there is no way to get it off. I have one pin that looks terrible because it was stained black from my pin bag. If I do keep pins with a free-d element (which is rare) I keep it in plastic to avoid getting dirty or stained.
As as for the quality control of DSF pins well unfortunately it pretty common. On the recent NBC pins that came out a couple of weeks ago there was a lot of dried glue on the pins I got. I keeped having to exchange the pins thinking they were highly flawed but when I opened on up and took a closer look I noticed it was just dried glue that does come off. The same goes for some of the pins that came out yesterday at the thanksgiving release as well. Dings, dips, scratches, and glue are pretty common with DSF pins. I really wish they had a better handle on these kinds of things and managing the quality of these pins.
I really wanted the Dumbo pumpkin until I realized that they were FREE-D. I still want one, but I dont wanna pay much for it, cause they get dirty soooo easily.
