I agree that if they do release a set with the guys that it will be excessive. To be honest I think Hans would be such a huge risk for Disney because not only is no he not marketed at all as part of the frozen line up but we barely get to see what he is like as a character at all (even the duke says more than he does in the trailers...). Which is why I am more inclined to not believe that comment. But who knows I am assuming it will be the girls joined by Hans and Kristoff but Disney might be doing something completely left field and trying to promote this movie so much that they are releasing this many dolls so that you love the characters way before you even get to see the movie.
 
Yeah I'm doubting the guys more and more the more I think about it. That would be way too many dolls released from one film. It would be beyond excessive. I think perhaps there is some confusion.

I definitely agree with you here and I trust what you have to say more than some comment on Facebook lol. So if you doubt it then that just cements my doubts more. You are right as well that it will be the most dolls released for just one movie and doe seem very excessive. Guess we will just have to wait and see I really am hoping for a release date sooner rather than later so that we can beat the hype and I do feel that it will reduce the competition if releases sooner than later. But I guess Disney would want to ride that hype so will probably delay release as much as possible
 
Maybe the guys at the DVD release with the girls in their opposing outfits? Oh, please not at the same time. We are working serious magic around here to get my ONE doll. And I want her companion too, which not only would require me selling my soul (or perhaps my 17" Ariel) but reading the spoilers to find out who her partner is and I SO want to be surprised!
 
Oh my....well I'm not going to worry about it for now. This movie is getting really hyped up but that is usually what Disney does. They always have to beat their sales from last year so I can see them making more dolls. But I would think they would wait to release the guys until after the movie is out but who knows. I wasn't able to talk to my CM manager yesterday because she was extremely busy. They are already getting geared up for Christmas. I know we shall start to know more soon ^^
 
I will say one thing about Disney releasing all these dolls, I'm going to start getting very picky about which ones I buy. I love collecting them but I'm also not one to have a lot of clutter (seems to be odd to collect stuff but not want clutter lol). I think I will start making a game plan when I know of releases which dolls I will buy and which ones I will pass on. That way when they come out I'm not tempted because I have already budgeted for certain dolls. I will have to see how well my game plan works.....sometimes I just can't help but want them all! LOL
 
I would prefer to see LE dolls of Elsa in her coronation dress and Anna in her snow gear over the guys personally. I doubt Disney would release LE dolls of the guys before the movie is released in theaters. Releasing the sisters is one thing, but releasing the guys now would be a mistake.

I hope the story about the guy dolls isn't true...I don't think people will want them until the movie comes out..the girls are one thing but I'm not so sure about the guys.
 
I am so excited for the girls! Honestly, I wouldnt mind the guys either, but definitely released later once the movie has been out. I feel like the boy dolls really wouldnt sell right now since we know so little about them. Also, the sets are supposed to be 2500; where is this "18 sets" coming from? I am starting to feel overwhelmed by all the hypothetical releases XD I really hope they dont hit us with $400+ in collectibles right now.. I want them all but c'mon disney, its almost Christmas! Also, if Kristoff is released I want a Sven... Maybe the big plush will do...

So I was thinking that if they were to release the boy dolls, or "sets" that they might do 12" like the Designer sets we just got with the prince/princess. I feel like these would sell really well since people like to have the couples together (or at least I do!) but I read the frozen book and it looks like Elsa never has a love interest. Which I really like in the story but it means that she wouldnt be a "pair" with anyone but Anna. Also, releasing Hans would be kind of cool, because its kind of like getting a villain release too XD Not too many dashing male villains around. Either way I think they will hold off on anything but individual releases until the movie is out since it would be a spoiler
 
I hope they don't realease the boys as well at the same time :/! I Would want all 4 together but I just can't afford them all! I've managed to scrape together funds for Anna, Elsa, the Pins and maybe the DSF pins If I can get them for a reasonable Price!! But all 4 at once I just can't afford. I agree DVD release with boys, and opposing outfits would be lovely!

That sounds great! I would definitely have to get Snow Anna. I have the Classic Doll and I'm just blown away at her quality - I can only imagine what they would do with an LE doll.
 
I don't think I'd get the guy dolls at this point. I'm interested in Anna and Elsa right now, and that's already a lot on top of the fairytale sets right now. Plus that's a lot of LE dolls for one movie. I think disney risks collector burnout if they overwhelm the market now.

To be honest that really does make a lot of sense. We had Rapunzel released in two versions one during the bluray release and the other during the ever after release. So I could see the doing two Anna's especially since she really is very popular. Also next year the Disney movie set for release around Apr/May is the sequel to the Muppet's movie and I doubt they will do an LE doll based on any of the Muppet characters as it would look more like a puppet than a doll. Disney does usually release a doll during the first half of the year so I could definitely see them doing a Frozen release to commemorate the bluray release of Frozen as it would be around that time as well.

LOL I like how you suggested a LE size of 6,000 as that seems to be Disney's new "go to" edition size now based on the past releases. As mentioned by other members before I wonder if they will drop this back down to 5,000 though as it was raised for Ariel because she is probably the most popular of the princesses and Disney knows that.

Then again they could take a different stance and keep the new raised edition sizes to reflect the growing popularity of these dolls, though I hate to say it but I honestly think that Aurora will not be able to move as many units as Ariel, Maleficent on the other hand is a different story, I believe that the movie will create a lot of love for Maleficent and that she could become the favorite Disney villain for many people especially with someone like Angelina Jolie playing the role. If the movie is done well and the role played well then Maleficent will have the potential to pass Aurora in popularity when it comes to doll release, so much so that they have to increase her LE size to 3,000 compared to Ursula's 2,000. Then again this will all depend on how the movie will go.

I just had a thought as well that Disney could do a potential LE Maleficient preorder release like they did with Brave as Maleficent is expected around May next year so the preorder would fall around the time of the doll release date during the first half of the year instead of doing another Frozen LE doll during BluRay. Ultimately I think the possibility of an additional Anna during bluray release will really depend on how successful Frozen is and how well received the movie is by the public.
 

Well that is the thing I dont think they just risk collector burn out but like MountedArcherPrincess said they will lose interest as well because people will find that the market is getting so saturated with too many of these dolls (especially at the same time which is frustrating). It is almost like there is a doll drought throughout the year and then all of a sudden they flood the market with dolls leaving people in such difficult positions which isnt really fair on collectors and to be honest doesnt make much sense if you ask me. Whoever is determining releases in Disney should really have a good think about their target audience and adjust their releases to better suit them as they are ones they need to keep satisfied since they are the ones who buy these things.

It is interesting because I see the forum as a microcosm of the entire Disney doll collectors society therefore if something is ill-received on the forum I can just image that it will be the same for a majority of collectors and I can already tell that the possibility of male dolls is already upsetting quite a few people because for starters we don't even know one of them. So I just cannot believe this comment made on Facebook, if it were to happen then it would just be Disney becoming too greedy and pushing the limit to the point where they shoot themselves in the foot and lose customers over their greed. This is definitely a big marketing no no as it is a surefire way to end up losing the market, disappointing customers and killing a product.
 
I agree with you, Polaris, that if the Disney Store makes a LE Maleficent (and how could they not?), they had better think about ramping up her LE size considerably (LE 3000+). They sold pretty much all of her Designer dolls within about a month, and there were 13,000 of those. That said, I do also hope that they make LE Aurora with an edition size of 6,000 so that it hopefully won't be a pain in the patella to get her. As Aurora is my second favorite Disney princess, I do plan on buying more than one to perhaps take one through an OOAK makeover.
 

Interesting points, but on the other hand, the Disney Store has made some terrible decisions with their limited edition merchandise releases that have angered a lot of people, and yet those same people keep coming back for more. I really don't put it past the company to milk this and as a result push things too far with it...

As for the ides of the male dolls from Frozen, on the one hand I can see them trying it out, but perhaps with Kristoff more than Hans, though Hans would make the better-looking LE doll in my opinion. On the other hand, as many have mentioned, the real opportunity for male LE dolls would be with the DVD/blu-ray release, after people have learned to love the characters after seeing the film (recall that Sgt. Calhoun took a while to move 1000 units, and she was an unknown character before the film's release). However, if they do release a male LE doll with the Frozen DVD/blu-ray, I would also expect more LE dolls for Anna and Elsa, too, which really would be a huge doll over-kill if Frozen does not turn out the revenue that the Disney company is hoping for. Just food for thought...

For me, though, I'll still be there for every darn doll release!
 
I really hope the guy dolls aren't true for right now. I just don't have money for them! I've already dropped about $1000 on TLM and the DFDC dolls in the past two months, Disney would be so cruel! I would want them both, so if they did do them I hope it would be around the Blu-Ray release. I would not want them to do just Anna in snow gear, if they did that I would want a coronation Elsa, it drives me nuts when there isn't an even number in sets to display them (stupid reason, I know) but also because it just wouldn't seem right to represent just one girl again. If they did a Blu-ray release, I hope for either the opposite Anna and Elsa to what we get, or the two men... Just not now, please oh merciful Mickey Mouse!
 

That is a good point Shiva, even though Disney keeps stuffing up they still have the die hard fans like us that will keep on buying the dolls. Like you said even if they were to release 4 dolls for this Frozen LE release I would still be buying all of them even though I did not budget to buy them...

Gosh I find myself getting addicted to pin collecting too. I have the forum open at work to keep myself up to date with any news on the Frozen dolls but because that has been slow I found myself exploring more of the site which was not a good idea. I have already spent more than I should have on pins that I did not expect or budget to buy.....LOL

I gotta say one thing even if Disney does make marketing mistakes they sure know how to get collectors spending money on their merchandise even if it is just a piece of formed metal or plastic which probably costs them less than a dollar to mass produce
 

Oh dear, I have to agree that idle hands are the devil's playthings! I get into way too much trouble browsing online and then seeing things that I want (but do not necessarily need). Disney pins are among the worst for me, because there are so many lovely pins out there, but often the nicer ones are in limited quantities, due to LE size or they are just older and not so much in circulation. At least with the LE and Designer dolls, there is a sort of finite number that we have to aim for with each release, but with the pins, there are just so many sources: DSF, Mickey's of Glendale (WDI), the pin events, the Parks, DS.com, ... and of course eBay! I've given up any hopes for being any sort of pin completist (the only chance among my favorite characters I had was originally with Flynn Rider, but the DSF Beloved Tales pin ruined that). Similarly, the current prices of the four 2011 Designer Princess pins I don't have and all of the DFDC pins are presently keeping me away from those...

Collectors (with very little restraint) + Disney = very broke!
 
I called my DS, they said it was not a pre-sale you just come in and buy the dolls.

BUT, they didn't know the date... so they are going to call me back.

Soooooooo who knows. :dunno:
