I honestly have no idea where this should be posted so I'll put it here and the moderators can put it in the right spot. I found this a couple weeks ago totally accidental but you can give people you points. I even had a small auction thing for letters where I sent them letters and they sent me points. It does work as I have sent and recieved points and I think it is really interesting as it could be used as a form of currency to bid in auctions or partake in games depending on how the person feels about it. I just thought that this was a really cool thing and it should be posted.

I should have explained it but in the list of things to do once you click a persons name a choice is to give away points. Then you see all the sections and how many points you have in each and you can give them points for different sections depending on how many you have. If you need a better explanation I can give one.
 
I also noticed that you can give points away, but have not done it at all yet! :) Would be cool to be able to use them on auctions and such for those of us with few trader pins! :D
 
At this moment in time, the point system is a show of your activity on the forum, you get points for posting new threads, replying to threads, etc. Currently the shop is not available but this is the details given from the vbulletin site.

Shop A virtual Shop will motivate your users to earn more points. You can define categories and put virtual items with pictures in it. A currency can be defined seperatly for every item, e.g. 20 points from threads or 100 points from gallery. Users can purchase the items, they appear in their profile. The costs of the item are substracted from their xperience points. Additionally you can set quantity of the items. The Shop will motivate your users to collect specific points to buy an item. Optionally you can show the last purchased items on postbit. You can put virtual items in it, like WoW addons: Sell WoW Items in exchange of f.e. thread points. Great for RPG forums. Non-Virtual Items like bold Usernames or Downloads for Points are already on my todo list.
 
I think until we know just what the point system is going to be utilized for. we should hold off from giving them away, or using them as a currency. We have nooo clue what the values of these points will be.

what if you give away 1000 points to a friend, only to discoveer later that those 1000 points could have bought you something really cool in the market that has yet to be set up???

in an auction, we dont really know the value of the points at all. So there is no way to know how much your bid is worth compared to pins or whatever.
