I currently have almost 500 pins in my collection already and I have roughly 885 pins on my wants. Of course I had to pick Mickey, Minnie, Stitch, and Chip & Dale for my collection. They each have like a Gazillion pins! I narrowed down to only collect pins where they are not in their normal attire. I like them dressed as other characters, as cowboys, princesses, etc. but that still leaves a lot of pins to collect. I often go in and narrow down my wants but usually when I do that I find others to want. LOL! Right now I just feel excessive because really...where in the heck am I going to put all these pins!?! I started with books. I didn't like that because then I only see them when I go in to the book to add more pins. I'm working on boards to hang but my Mickey board is already full. I'm just feeling like I've gone overboard but can't manage to bring myself to trim back at this time. I just feel like a glutton right now. Anyone else have this problem? What are you doing about it if anything?

Hahahahahahahaha!!! Bruna and I had the same problem!! And we JUST started (3 months ago basically)... up to 500+ pins in collection plus over 150+ trading (not part of collection) and we have a wants list of over 1500...

We're sticking to books, but we just cut off a complete collection and decided to put more focus on the others... we had what is currently on our sig, plus vinylmations and mickey icons. We cut off vinylmations entirely, and have put mickey icons on the "only if there isnt anything else" option.

Reason we are sticking to books is the protection they offer the pins, and the less movement when we head to parks to trade, etc.

But yes, we understand! heh.

I wanted to be an Alice completist and then I realized that I had tons of pins that I just didn't 'like'. So I got rid of those and only kept the ones that I thought deserved to be kept. :)

OMG! Where do you keep them all? Do you "visit" them often?

I have a huge chunk of them framed, and hanging on the walls in the hallways. Some are framed in other rooms. I also have a large number of them in binders. Basically, once I get a set completed I try to frame it, and the binders are a whole lot of sets that are incomplete.

I'm putting stuff in frames too. It still leaves a lot of pins to find a place for...LOL!

I hear you there hoeman and do pretty much the same, except I have been limited as to where I can hang them for the time being as we had kids & grandkids move back in so not as much space at the moment. Still a little ways behind you, but always looking for more, lol. Have corkboards full of those yet to be framed, and that's still a few too many for my liking but not enough frames at the moment. Guess it's time to do something about that. Anyway, 500 is nothing to worry about, you're just getting started! LOL! Enjoy yourself, because it's a blast!

There is a very lovely lady on the boards I traded with and went to her house to swap the pins She has over 20,000 pins listed on pinpics!! She had to build cabinets in her basement and they are full of rubbermaid bins full of pins.

Its amazing how many pins some people have, a friend I trade regularly with has 13,000 in his collection and 4,000 traders. I just cant imagine what that many pins look like!! I have a meagre 600 in my collection, and am having trouble with them overflowing from my usual ways of storing them.

How do you store them?

LOL!!! When my friends or non-pin people ask me how many pins I have, I usually say something like ... "oh have several" or "you don't want to know" ... and then try very hard not to bust out laughing. I don't have as many as some people! But I do have around 5,000 in my collection (but that's decreasing) and then not quite a 1,000 for trade. I have pins everywhere! :eek2: On mounted cork boards, in framed sets, in bins, books, binders, etc. I have them in almost every room of the house ... but hey, I have a small house! I've kinda run out of wall space so I'm re-thinking what I what to display, lol! I love them all ... I have lots of different characters and themes. I have some very treasured pins that were given to me by very precious friends! Those I will always keep!!

So not to worry Bryana! You've got a very long way to go before you need to worry about feeling excessive! :hsd: And once you get even more pins, you'll understand that it's OK to keep collecting them! At least that's my philosophy! Lol! Take care and hey ... wanna trade? *bjr

I started with Stitch - get every pin with Stitch on it!!!! Then added Chip & Dale, then DLR attractions, then DCA attractions, then random Princess pins, then "oh that's cute" pins. Had the "I'm overwhelmed and feeling guilty" feeling. Got rid of the Stitch's I just didn't like. Narrowed down my Chip & Dale's. Rid myself of other pins that completed series. Just because I liked #1 and #5 didn't mean I needed #1-10. I've sold some on "that auction site" and traded others. I'm really really really trying to just keep the ones I love. The ones that make me smile when I look at them.

I am slowly running into that problem too. It got to point where I ran out of places to put my new pins I got. I wouldn't stress it too much though :) That's apart of being a long time collector and part of the fun with it. Try making some creative, crafty shadowboxes or paint a cork board scene and hang some of them or buy a new book :) I love seeing my collection grow but yeah, I reached that point too and had to draw something of a line. Now I try to stick to TLM and Brave (I kind of cut out Stitch and Nightmare) but I find that I still snag random pins here and there (like the recent Oz pins...). It's like a compulsive habit!!
I wanted to add that I have a HUGE cork board and between that and my lanyards, I rotate pins so I can enjoy different ones from my collection from time to time and they don't just sit stagnant in my books.

I understand that guilty feeling and I think that is what I'm feeling now. I will say that up until I started pin collecting in September I never did anything for myself. I didn't have hobbies or anything like that. So I do like that I have something now. My husband and sister says if it makes me happy then I should keep doing it. I think my guilty feeling comes when I think about what to do with all the pins I have. If I put them away in a book, will I ever really look at them?

As for those that really make me smile when I look at them I have a few. Like the Chip & Dale Rock n Roll pin in my signature. I've had it sitting on my desk ever since I got it. I look at it every day and it makes me smile. I have some stitch pins that are the same way. Its just so hard because i want them all or at least i think I do...LOL!

Worse comes to worse, you could always cut down on your collection and sell the stuff you don't want anymore. As a Stitch collector who mainly collects him dressed as other people, I'd gladly appreciate it haha xD If not, you could always start doing what I want to do when I grow up. Pick a room in your house and cover one of the walls in something that pins can go in and decorate your entire wall with pins O_O You have to admit that would look very nice!!!

I have mine in books also because they offer good protection. I don't have enough wall space to make very many frames. I've been collecting about 8 months and have about 7 books. My problem is, I like a little of everything. I did just recently clean out several of my small pins and put them as trades. Sometimes I think, "What have I gotten myself into?".....lol. I don't think you are alone. We all have pins coming out of our ears but it's so much fun.
