For a little while, I have been considering giving up on one of my side collections - Sven. How do you decide when to give up on a collection?

I have hoarding tendancies, I am very aware of this. I get very emotionally attached to objects and as such I have a lot of collections and I find it hard to let go. However, I am struggling with my Sven collection, mostly because it is my most expensive collection. I know straight off the bat that there are so many expensive pins that are unobtainable with my traders, and I know in my heart that if I did have a pin good enough to trade for a well-liked Sven pin.. I would probably prefer to trade it for a Lion King grail. Which makes me think that I am probably going to be going around and around in circles for a very long time!

When I think, too, that the Frozen cash cow will keep being milked and Frozen will continue to hold and impossibly high value to traders and sellers.. it does not seem like this is a high price trend that might 'wear off' in a while.

I was also involved in a car crash this weekend for which I am at fault, so I am severely out of pocket. With our engagement party looming (money spent) and lingering on the brink of buying our first house (LOTS of money) .... I can't help but feel like I should sell some pins to recoup losses and I think the Sven pins are probably the only ones worth much at all.

So do I give up?? Keep trying?? D:

Maybe stop focussing on sven for a while and instead focus on other collections. If you find that you don't miss collecting sven then I would no longer collect sven but if you miss collecting him I would definitely not get rid of the pins. I have traded away too many pins that I later regretted because I thought I didn't want to collect that character anymore.

If I was in your place, personally I would give up the Sven collection. If the money would help with the accident, your engagement (congrats btw) and the lion king grail, I'd go for it. But I do understand that it would be hard to give them up. :(
Good luck with it.

LET IT GO...LET IT GO!!

When I hear people in financial straights and starting a new life and your even wondering if you should sell? When you are old like me and have SPARE cash there will be Sven pins, cause they dont go bad. it also sounds like it would be very healthy for you to work on downsizing.

We went through some very hard times and I sold my PTD collection. It happened before the craze, so most of my old ones were only like 15$ a piece abut I had gotten them with my grandma so there was a lot of sentimental value...but I have my grandma...and with lots of help and letting go of some pins we pulled through.

If you have one or two that really are special, keep them. If not and you need the money it is OKAY to part with them.

They may go up in price, but with all things that go up they typically come down too.

Just figure out what's more important? And understand I know there is a mental thing too. Many people, our only hobby is pins, and they help you in some way, and others they actually harm them.

If it'll make actual life outside the hobby better...go for it :3

As others have mentioned, put Sven on hold for awhile. Maybe sell the ones the like the least. I started a few side collections here and there but finally traded them away and I don't miss them. I now concentrate on my main collections and lately I have been trading for pins that I think are cute. I don't care if they fit a collection or not. I also don't care if they are LEs. The constant worry about getting my hands on the expensive pins takes the fun out of it. Smaller OE pins can be fun to collect when finances are tight.

I give up when I see the pieces I need, go to absolutely insane prices, that I will never ever pay for or trade that much for. When it hits stupidity and overvaluation I walk away. Too many snakes in the grass play games with market values these days. This hyper-inflation of new pins that have no business being where they are in value yet they remain. It's buyers with 3 or 4 of them that want to keep their others high value.

I gave up on PTD's after I completed them because of the stupid rules changes and all the hype and flippers. I am about to give up on Marquees. I was never interested in Beloved Tales, they were always overvalued. Sorcerer hats are starting to go insane now. It seems everyone is always trying to be cooler and one-upping the others so they keep paying insane amounts for 1 or 2 pins that nobody else has. So these forgotten pins are all of the sudden shooting way up. Just dumb.

Now I see people pay insane "Young Queen" type buy-it-now prices for grails so they can get even more out of desperate people in trades. They will overpay, which just increases the future price of that pin, then find some desperate person who needs that 1 to complete, and make them overtrade for it. It happened before, it will keep happening. The marquee height craze went that way, now BT's and PTD's and Gomes do that. At least Gomes maybe deserve it.

Many thanks to all for your responses, opinions and advice :) I think I am going to put it to one side for a little while until I decide how I feel about it... if I did get rid of them, it is true that there will never be a time in which I can't just get back into it eventually. Like many of you have said, there will always be Sven pins..!
