I am thinking about doing something and need a bit of advice.

One of my new years "pinsolutions" is to narrow my focus and really work on my collection instead of just trading for retraders or whatever. The problem is, I am running low on "high end" traders, but the majority of the pins I really want are considered "high end."

With that in mind, what I was thinking of doing is, put together the majority of my basic traders and selling them, then buying some decent to higher end pins to use for trade to get my keepers.... ((or buy some of the keepers if possible. )) Essentially making my trade book higher quality and less quantity.

Should I throw em up as grab bags for sale?
Should I list them individually for sale?

I dont want to ebay them, because the fees are crazy and I would rather they go to folks here on dpf for their trade books.

What would you suggest? ((my pinpics trade list is mostly current if you wanna get an idea of what I am thinking of selling))

I would say to put them up for sale!! Either grab bags or individually.

I am having the same problem here... I have a whole canvas full of pins that are not really worth much, and are not very good traders. :(

Its worth a shot to put them up for sale.. General prices like $2,3,5 whatever dollar amount cost sections. :) I always :coffee: through the lower cost threads for pins ~ as I have a lot of friends with kids that have started pin trading and will pick up pins at low cost instead of trade for them. :wavey:

I think we all tend to loose sight of the fact that there are newbies out there and newbies joining DPF all the time. :) I am at fault for this too. These newbies or others that might not have a huge trading base or still working up to getting the higher end pins still need basic traders and aren't interested in spending $30 for a booster pack at DLR. :D

We always suggest to newbies "look on the forum" for traders hahahaha, but yet, forget about posting them for sale lol.

Personally I have only bought a couple grab bags ever. I tend to go for the individually priced pins.

As a buyer, I prefer individual prices instead of grab bags. Owning as many pins as I do, I want to avoid duplication when I can. I'm always afraid with grab bags, that I'll spend a bunch of money and end up with nothing I want. If CM trading were better, or I was doing more online trading of OE pins, or could attend pin nights, maybe it would be different.

You could start out with individual groupings of prices. $3, $5, $10 pins, etc. Easiest thing seems to be to arrange in your pin book by price and then take a picture. You could always make grab bags out of what doesn't sell after however long you want to run a sale. But it gives you a chance to sell to people who don't want grab bags, as well as getting the grab bag type of people later.

However, my advice is kind of moot anyway, because I have no money to buy pins from DPF sales because BatB PODM, Pluto's Christmas Tree PODM, and New Fantasyland completely wiped out my budget until mid-Jan at least. Which is really driving me nuts, because at least 5 people are running sales that I desperately want to purchase, but I just can't. So note to people running sales: I want your pins, I just can't afford it now.

do you live near a park? you could take low end pins and trade of lanyards for better pins to sell?
if not I prefer individual pins for sale xx

Hi Kristine,

I think your wise to get quality instead of quantity. If you can sell your traders for a decent price and then just buy the most you can of good traders I would go that way. It's better to have less good traders then a lot of pins that just aren't going. Btw I got your PODM. Thanks so much.

Jimmy

thank you folks! everyone has great info!

the caroler PCT PODM got traded for a BatB PODM which got traded for a Cinderella PODM that has Major (her REAL horse) and is now permanantly in my keeper collection. Sorry folks!

I am thinking individual sell. with a flat rate shipping regardless of 2 pins or 20 pins purchased by each buyer.

I would say start with a sale of individual pins, and whatever you don't sell in xxx amount of time, sell as mystery grab bags :) Another idea I have.... focus on one want list pin at a time, as far as high end ones go. Find someone who is trading it, try and work out a trade with them as to what they want from their want list(regardless of whether you have it), and ask them if they can hold the pin you want until you either trade for or buy the pin they want. From there, if you've sold enough pins to buy, I'd say call My D Pins and see if they happen to have the pin. As far as the shop's cases of pins(not talking about the individual dealers' cases, but the ones that have ones owned by My D Pins, if that makes sense) go, they have really fair, competitive prices, and you're also supporting a local, family owned business. Then everyone is happy! Best of luck hon, and let me know if I can help in any way, even if you want me to come over to your place and help you list/price pins to sell! :-D
