Hi, I've decided I would like to collect pins, been toying with it for a while now. I recently had a little girl so they will be for her too when she's older (hopeully she will be a disney nut like me)

I was just wondering how people start? I was on the uk site just before ad there are loads, are most mass produced are there rare ones.

Also anyone from the uk know if they sell them in stores anymore? I happened to be in my local store last year (metro centre) and I picked up a gorgeous Tiana pin but I've not seen any since.

Any help or tips would be happily accepted xxx

Heyy Laura,

They do not sell pins in store any more so you will not be able to get them from their. The pins available on the UK site are mainly OE (Open Edition - Mass produced) If they are LE (Limited Edition) it will say next to the pin. Some of these pins will be able to work nicely as traders. What may be a good idea though if seeing if you can set up trades for them before actually buying them unless buying them for your own collection.

Have you decided what you actually would like to collect (i.e. what character). Sale thread on here are always a good place to start and can vary from your more basic pins to very rare ones. The best way to start collecting is to try and decide what you wish to collect and start easy. Traders are always useful so if the UK has a good release try and pick up a couple for traders :)

If you have any more question or there something I haven't answered feel free to PM me and I will try and help where I can :)

Yes, Hollie is right. It's probably best to home in one a certain subject, movie or character as there are so many pins out there...limited edition pins can trade well if they are sought after characters or movies...or small edition numbers....pinpics can be a good place to make trades, as well as on here, and as Hollie pointed out there are usually sales threads to suit most budgets on this forum.

Get a pinpics account set up and catalog all the pins you own, and pins you'd like, that way you can set up future trades more easily, and other members on the forum or pinpics can offer you potential trades that natch your wants...good luck, pin trading is a fun hobby! We are all here to help should you need it :)

Welcome to the forum Princess!

A lot has been answered already so I'll just elaborate on some stuff already discussed. Pins can be overwhelming. There's a pin for everything an anything and keeping up with new releases can stress you out. Limit your collection to a character, movie, subject etc as charolette said, but I would add to be as broad as possible. For example, let's say I like the Aristocats if I wanted to find a lot of pins for that movie I would even broaden my search to cats to start off. This will let you build your collection when starting because as you will find new movies come out, new re-imagined pins, and collecting just one thing will get boring after awhile.
This is where the term "traders" comes into play. Let's say four months from now you get tired of collecting Cat pins( to keep with the example). You will most likely love just a few of your thirty or so pins you have. Well, there are other cat collectors out there and if you have some LEs(Limited editions) in your possession then you can trade for new things you want.

I hope this little bit of advice helps. Just remember if the veterans learn new things about pins so don't feel bad if you're clueless to something. That's why you have us, your DPF family to guide you through this wonderful and insane lifestyle of pin trading. :]

You can always shoot me a message if you have questions on anything or just want to chat.

Have a magical day,

-Jonathan

Thank you everyone, I feel so welcome :-) I wasn't sure how many uk people were on here so I'm pleased there is loads!

My favourite characters are Jasmine, Belle, Periwinkle and Marie so I will look into maybe picking 2 of those once I've seen what's available. I'm very excited hehe.

Oh yes and princess jasmine where abouts are you from? I'm in Newcastle so lucky as I have metro centre and sunderland stores near by for my other merch.
Xx

there are a few UK groups on facebook where you can find some cheap traders. if you want I can PM you the links.

If your close to Manchester we are having a pin meet on July 6th. Or if your able there is a charity pin and vinylmation event held in October. I know its a bit of a drive but maybe one day you might be able to make one.

Fellow geordie here too! :D :wavey:

I LOVE the Disney Store in the metro, not been to the one in Sunderland in a while but the metro one has a good variety! :)

Most things have been answered and you will learn aload more if you stick around here :)

So anyway... Hello fellow UK trader! :D

Hello Laura  and little Eve Marie and welcome to the forum, from another UKer! I'm right down South though.
I second all the advice here: pinpics.com is a great resource to see what pins are available in your selected themes. You can create an account and then list "Owns" "Wants" and "Trades", others can then see those and perhaps offer to trade with you.
Then you can link your Pinpics account to your Forum account like you can see on my profile < and we can all see you collection/trades/wants too!

Are you going to collect Marie pins for your daughter?

You should also give your address to Tiggermickey so if somebody would want to zap you with something it would be possible because she would have all that info.

Welcome!!!

What is zap?
I will look into pinpics when I'm on the pc as I'm just on my phone at the moment. Also thank you for the pm about the facebook group :-)

I think I'm going to collect Jasmine and Hannah Montana for myself and Marie for my daughter (well to start with I might end up doing less)

I'm excited xoxo

I will pm my infor for zap, it sounds so cool!

I was on the uk disney store website and there is a Jasmine pin on there I like and also a marie one. I'm going to order them when I get paid @ end of month.

I saw that there is a Peter Pan limited edition out next week, I won't be getting this but I wonder are they hard to get with there being only 400? I read earlier that there good for trades so maybe in future I will look into LE pins. Do they go on sale super early?

Welcome! I know I'm a little late in saying that as this has been up for a few days, but welcome anyway! I'm a newbie from the UK too :).

If you're looking for affordable pins, I discovered earthbound's shop yesterday via a link tucked away in the news thread. I don't think I'm allowed to put the url here but if any UKers want it, just PM me :). I was so pleased to find somewhere selling nice pins for reasonable prices, based in the UK. There isn't a huge selection but I think it's still pretty good for those of us just starting out. The Disney store website can make things very pricey, with their postage costs and the fact that they never seem to have any reduced price pins!

Anyway, welcome to the forum and the hobby, I'm sure you're going to enjoy yourself :)

Hello lovely!

I'm also in the UK, Milton Keynes to be precise. If you wanted to start collecting Marie there is a beautiful Marie on the disneystore.co.uk website for only £6, it's a Disneyland Paris one from the set "cats and dogs" I have it in my collection and I love it. I'm a Brave and Figaro collector (along with lots of other random things) so if you ever need any advice just give me a shout. Hannah Montana is a great choice for your first collection because she will be fairly easy to collect. I also collect Johnny Depp pins and I've found him to be fairly easy :)
You will get a heck of a lot of support from everyone here, we all help each other out a lot and there really are some fantastic people on this forum. If you ever get a chance to pop into the chat room when people are in there it's a great way to get to know some of the folks around here, I'm in there a lot!
So anyway, welcome to the boards, hope to trade with you soon!

-Charlie
