I just fired off a letter to Disney about pin prices
Have you ever wondered why they do color pricing on the pins, instead of listing individual prices? I think it's so that they CAN adjust the prices, without having to go and mark up/down each individual pin. Just change a couple sheets of paper around the store, change the price in the computer, and you're done. They probably wouldn't keep the system if they didn't use it occasionally.

yes, Supertank, I totally agree, and it has me steamed....its usally upward until pins stop selling well. Many pins already find their final fate at Company D or the Outlet stores
Pin prices are already WAY too high IMHO :-(

from MagicMickey89; "who cares if you cant afford to pay for pins then don't collect.. This a an expensive hobby always has been always will.."
Yes it IS expensive, but I WANT to collect, and would like to see more equitable prices for the pins. I guess the prices dont matter to you, but they do to me...I've been collecting since 1999

Let's face it- Disney is expensive, period. When WDW opened, we couldn't afford to camp there even one night! The sites were $11 per night, and we were paying .50 cents per night in a state park. I have often wondered what Walt would think of the price scamming, er structure that has gone on since his death. Disney is so out of line on their prices, but they do not have any competition to bring them back into line. They know that those of us who love Disney will find a way to pay their prices for our fix of the Mouse.

As far as the pin prices go, somebody help me on my memory here, but I think I remember in the late 90s that there was a small pin trading craze before Disney got involved. Then Disney jumped on the bandwagon, and just about all of the other pins disappeared. Disney now pretty much has the market cornered, and as such they can play with the prices to see what the market (us) will bear. Let's face it, as much as we hate the pieces Disney charges, none of us will be the first to start a boycott. Therefore Disney will continue to ratchet up the prices until their bottom line shows they have gone too far.

Another possible unwanted side effect of this increase is that the scrappers will be coming out like crazy-you know, the scrappers Disney claims don't exist?

in my opinion is has to do with the upcoming summer season, think about it, the parks are nearly at full capacity for most of the summer, tourists are the target
they visit once a year and dont know how much the pins cost just a few weeks before they got there, so to them its the norm
once all the tourists from far and wide a are gone they go back down

its a way of maintaining a steady flow of income from the pins

it like what department stores do with sweaters, cheap in the off season, expensive during the colder months

The way we always do it is Ration. If we see a an upcoming pin or two, we buy one. We only purchase one or two a month (Thank goodness Our characters are hardly ever put out.)

But It's just a dollar, but in the end it adds up. that's what peeves me off.

On the other hand, The sets have remained the same price since 2007 :)

I remember last year the big fervor over the PWP mystery pins that went from $1.00 to $2.95. Now that was a heck of an increase and has remained so to this day. So there must be enough people buying them to support the price staying increased.

As a side note for those who live in CA, I noticed last time that I was at DSF the clearance pins have also gone up $1.00 from $4.00 to $5.00.
