I have been mulling this one over for some time as it has become apparent when ever a new Rapunzel/Tangled pin is released there is always at first peace and happiness that there is a new pin and people chat away like normal.

Then once the pin is released and people see the value of it and can not trade for it and the new pin is becoming a grail right away (you can say I am using the PTD Rapunzel as a perfect example) then people start to grate on other forum members, get called out and then everything gets all dramatic and page after page and nothhing gets resolved except people are just angry.

This anger will go away until the next Rapunzel/Tangled related pin comes out and thus it will all start again with the circle of Joy, Anger and then Fighting. I don't collect Rapunzel or buy her to trade so I am merely a spectator, I am just thinking out loud weather people think she has started to get a little over-rated??

I hate to see the thread when a Brown Haired Rapunzel or Normal Mother Gothel pin is released and is low LE as then there would be hell on earth for which ever territory it is released in be it DSF, UK, Paris, Japan, Cruiseline..

I just want to know anyone else's opinion on what they think on the Rapunzel/Tangled drama-rama and do you think is is becoming a over-rated when anything she touched turns to Gold (well not fugly or OE ones lol)

Those are being released as cool kids club exclusive....only on the west coast of course.

I like pins... But I am not going to get crazy over them or a release. Sure the PODM thing was fun, but I would not sit out in the flipping cold for every one of them. Take tomorrows release, I am only going to get a friend pins, not myself. I am only buying one set no need for 2. It was crazy to see how nasty the Tangled PTD got considering we are all mostly adults here...not that anyone in this forum is a horrible person, it just kind of brings out the bitter critter in people.

first... think ice cream everyone... happy favorite flavors...

now.. rapunzel. Tangled was an exceptional movie. Some say it is one of the best princess movies made. It has a HUGE fan following. Because of this, there are more collectors of the: pins, art, coloring books, dolls, soap bars, bubble baths, kids shampoo, toothbrushes, hair accessories, clothing, blankets, wall decals, stitckers, wigs, dresses, shoes, lipsticks, the color purple, barefoot cute blondes, and even chameleons. (yes the sales of chameleons increased with this movie, more so than that movie with the lizard and Jhonney Depp voice) Because it was a well done and popular movie, the popularity of the pins does not surprise me at all. No, 'Punzel is not over rated, it has become more popular with time.

All Rapunzel pins trade better... unfortunately, even the ugly ones do better than other pins of similar edition size. I divorced Tangled as a pin collection because of the "Punzel fever" which grips the community every time a new one releases. I bought the PTD via Ebay for 65. specifically because it will be a good trader. I too think the price on this ptd will level out... right around the price i paid actually.... because it is a decent pin.

Well I myself have problems answering this question without bias as I am a Rapunzel collector. I have loved her since first seeing tangled. To me it was one of the funniest and most charming Disney movies I have seen in a long time. So calling her over rated is a bit bizarre to me.

I can however see what you mean about the sheer amount of fighting she causes and all though I am new to the forum I have been told it is not really different then what happens when they release a new UP pin.

I also believe Tangled is creating a cycle. Because many early ones were very popular and very very expensive the profiteers see every new one as an opportunity to make money and when you have profiteers entering the picture then it drives the price up of the release thus continuing. Not only do you have the profiteers entering the picture but Rapunzel is one of those characters that has "status" rather anyone wants to agree or disagree we all secretly know that there is a "status" behind Tangled and a few others. The reason for certain collections being linked to "status" may simply be because we know the price of those characters (up, marquees, tangled) so we become excited when seeing a good collection of that type.

So...over-rated...debatable that really depends on person to person. What we do know is that the demand for the character is allowing profiteers to keep profiting thus keeping the price high :/

You just described my apartment.

she is definitely overrated but wait until the next disney hit film with a princess in it, then rapunzel will just become one of those other princesses......and everyone can stop fighting over her lol

It is just I still do not know when the wall cracked and gave way to high prices etc as I remember the stained glass mirror was in the $4 bin at DSF and they did not sell out, as well as when I offered to pick up new rapunzel pins in paris for cost only 7 (haha back then 7 people were the cool kids) asked for them and I had 3 PTN Rapunzel pins as I was at the ptn and could I shift them...NO lol and then over night by some witches curse... KA-BOOM she is suddenly the hottest thing in town LOL

I know it was Disney Pixar but Merida has been unable to dethrone her :x:

Wish I was collecting back then .

maybe it was the DVD release or perhaps something like the PODM

I could ask the same thing about stitch, haunted mansion, Alice, and NBC but I don't. I buy those pins to trade away for the pins I want.

while we are naming pins that get way to much attention and $...

whats with the horse collectors?!?!?!? Dude, I started collecting back in 2010 and people were like, "what? there are horse pins?" NOW... you all collect horses! AH!!!!! I picked horses cuz well first I grew up with them but more importantly... they were OBSCURE! grrrr arrrrrg. March 2012, the fantasia centaurettes would sell on ewbay for 50... now its 100. dern it! I thought i had the right idea and then everyone joined me! AHHHH!

Plot twist: it's been overrated this whole time

I will go with this. I never got why she became so popular. We have her pins, yes. And luckily I got them before things got out of hand. But I still do not get it. I watched the entire movie (completely) once. I could never watch it again from beginning till the end. I just don't get it

That said, Rapunzel fared way better with me than Up I attempted to watch Up 3-4 times. Only once, I made it to the point where the blessed house landed somewhere. I always fell asleep trying to watch Up. I am too old I guess

I wouldn't say overrated because they are beautiful pins, but the wanting for them is ridiculous because (and I think it has a lot to do with it) there are so few of each pin. Each kind of pins have their "hot" moments, and Rapunzel is going through that phase right now. I'm also going to put it out there (this may bug people), but I think that the POMH, Beloved Tales and Marquee pins are overrated as well. Bam. Said it. Haunted Mansion pins had their moment during the O-Pin house event, as well as Stitch, Jessica, and Figment. I know that these are still very popular, but you don't hear the crazy stories of people trying to get them as much as you do with POMH, BT and Marquee pins. I just hope that Disney puts out more OE Tangled pins, as well as pins based on someone else other than the fab 5 and princesses.

OMG POST 3000 FOR SELEN!!!!! I'm with you I watched Tangled once and thought it was really good and I was able to appreciate it but that was the one and only time I've watched it because I can't get myself to watch it from start to finish. I can understand the Up craze because it's an incredible movie but its a hard movie to watch because the further it gets into the movie the less interesting it gets and it has a hard rewatching value, that's just my opinion though

Please, please, please, please, please more OE pins. I can't handle the stress of low edition sizes anymore!! I want everyone to be happy and not fight over Tangled pins!! And selfishly, I want a chance at getting some of these pins at MSRP! I'll pay more because she's the only character I collect and heaven knows how important this movie is in my life, but man, it would be really nice to start paying less than $125 for a Tangled pin...

Ariel is my number one girl, but Rapunzel is definitely my second favorite princess. I love everything about Rapunzel. Just coming back into pin trading this year well in 2012, I mean,(started in 2008), it was a shock to see that pins from one of my favorite movies were so hard to get and expensive. I love tangled and would like to collect the pins that I like and love from the movie, but unless some more open editions or higher LE pins are released, I don't think I'll have much of a tangled collection! :dunno:

I am trying to slowly build up a Rapunzel collection, and sometime next week I should have 3 Rapunzel pins! Woohoo! Lol.

I think Rapunzel is amazing, but the expensive nature of the pins, super high demand, and low LEs make collecting for her overrated... I think I said that right...

What I mean is:

I think the hype for her pins is overrated( not Rapunzel herself) because it makes it near impossible for everyone who loves the movie and wants the pins for their collection to get them.

I say quite a few themes have had their day of being hot like stitch jessica etc unless you take them as dressed up or something then releases just get trllied in with everything else thats released. I know Tangled is the hot thing right now and has been for what well over a year almoay 2 now and do you think the bubble will burst when prices keep to climb with every new pin that comes out as more and more jump on collecting her so prices go up more.

I say it will take something grand to knock her off the #1 spot and I dont see that happening any time soon lol especially if a BT one comes out haha

I love-hate Tangled.

When my boyfriend and I first saw it I was REALLY disappointed with the film as a whole. From animation errors to the lack-luster villainess, Mother Gothel, I was just not impressed. BUT I resonated with the heroine and her character. My boyfriend however absolutely loved the film top to bottom.

I cannot afford Tangled pins, I trade for what I can when I can and I wish I had more. I had a Tangled Podm, and I slightly wish I never traded it because I didn't realize how much it meant to me, but it went to a good home.

I want so much to beable to collect Tangled, specifically just Rapunzel pins, for myself and for my boyfriend, but I can't.

In all honesty I think that GREED is the number one reason right now. Yes this movie is popular, but did all 150-300 people who went to DSF to buy the PTD collect her? No. Did even half of them want her as a a trader? No. It looks like about 50% of the PTDs went to ebay for horrendous prices because people want to make a quick buck or are lying in wait as the price goes higher.

Pin trading is a game. And that pin is just a gold piece. A lot of people take advantage of it.

And no, I don't care if you waited out in the rain for it and don't tell me "It's my pin I can do with it whatever I want," because it's completely true. But to go down there and take your 17 friends, grab 34 of them and sell them all when the people who actually want the pin can't get there is greedy to me. And what's sad is that because of the other side of the story, is the other people who get desperate and scared of the releases and past releases they just throw money at the problem. They can't wait a month or two to get the pin, and drop a few hundred on it. It's a vicious circle.

ALSO. Not only that but Disney releases Punzel in verrryyy great ways. At DSF the PTDs weren't doing so well, lasting a few days to a week. It is winter so why buy ice cream? BAM Pascal PTD. Okay a few came out, lasted a while, then DSF was going to close for a few days, how do you make that money back? BAM Rapunzel PTD late at night so that there was just enough time for people to hear about it and get it before the shop was closed for a few days? :/ They made relatively 4200$ in an hour because of everyone rushing over there. Then a few hundred dollars more because the people who didn't luck out bought PTDs anyways.

Can't wait for the fifth anniversary pin set, it'll be a blood bath where ever the pins are released, here on the net and on ebay.
