Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
I agree that it is odd to have Eric dressed that way with a mermaid Ariel. So maybe there will be a wedding Ariel or issue her in the park green dress they have been pushing. I know there is another 17 inch Ariel doll coming that looked like she was in white or green, more like a singing doll, not an LE line doll. But it will be interesting to see if there is another LE Ariel. Too many dolls at once though.

I hope Eric is not D23 only. My CMs did not know anything about him, but they did know of Ursula.

Hey guys. I'm Jack and finally decided to post here. Nice to speak to all of you.

I must say being a huge villains collector and as excited as I was about the 17" Ursula, it is a bit of a let down. I know this is only a low quality picture from a video and we haven't seen any official up close pictures, but I am not crazy about it from what I see so far. It reminds me too much of the 12" classic doll which I was never a fan of to begin with. I was just checking on ebay and saw the Mattel Ursula from the Great Villain Collection for around $70. Do you think it might just be worth saving the extra money and getting that one instead? Like I said, we still haven't seen any official shots of it yet so it's hard to judge. Maybe once we see some real up close pictures they might change my mind.

And I would say I now regret not pre-ordering the Ariel since I was planning on getting the Ursula, however I wasn't even that blown away by the Ariel. Don't get me wrong she is a beautiful doll, but it seems to be lacking something. Maybe it's just because now that these 17" exclusive dolls have been around for a few years our expectations have become greater and we expect so much more. Where as when they started it was something new and exciting and we were just happy to see them being released.

Oh my God! I will not be happy in the slightest if they made Ursula a D23 exclusive. Oh my God I will be so angry! I think I have a peep going to the convention...but still. I hope it's just miss-reading and miss-leading or whatever. I want the next villain in this series!

Hello Jack and welcome!! If you don't like the new 17" Ursula (I'm personally not impressed with her either), then I'd say yes- grab the Great Villains Ursula if she's at a reasonable price. These are two very different style dolls though- the Disney 17" is more "fashionable" and rigid, whereas I'd say the Villains Ursula captures her ghoulish grin and evil ambition. Whichever speaks to you more! I don't think either would decrease in value, so you'd have a solid collectible.

As far as Ariel, I'm glad I pre-ordered her but I agree that she didn't completely blow me away, maybe I just need to see her in person. I appreciated the fact that they put her in her mermaid form, and I know that must have been somewhat of a feat in itself, but I still think that Rapunzel, Tiana, Merida, and Snow White are the standout (princesses) of this series. But that's just my opinion

In any case, welcome! And stick around, this is officially doll season and there's almost always something exciting to read! Best of luck

Everything Else Matters Not To Me With Ursula My Life is Complete! I Don't Care At All If the Price Was $1,000 Ill Gladly pay It! And Love Erics Outfit I Think Its A Nice Compliment For Ariel.

Thank you very much! I've been coming here for a while just never posted anything. Finally thought I should haha.

You're definitely right about the standout dolls in this series. Especially Snow White, and Rapunzel. Both so beautifully done. And like I said before, we've seen some beautifully made 17" exclusive dolls, so we want every doll to live up to the previous ones.

In person the Ariel is beautiful, and you can really appreciate the detail they put into her. Especially her tail. The individual scales (although I would have liked them smaller) really give her depth and build on what already is beautiful. I did have the opportunity to do the pre-order since my local Disney Store (which is conveniently located in the mall I work at) had 3 left when I stopped by on Monday. However I still passed, mainly for Ursula, and because I still wasn't 100% sold. Although the money is still very well spent for those who have bought her.

But yeah this is definitely my favorite time of year. So many exciting things coming out. (However it's my wallets least favorite time of year haha).

I found this info on the blog.disneystore.com:
Disney Fairytale Pre-Order Complete Set: August 12; They have exact dates on when each couples set is released. They are available one each week and you can buy them in the store the day before you can buy them online.

Has anyone else noticed that LE Ursula appears to have a black fabric "skirt" billowing out from under her body and tentacles? At first, I thought it was a display prop, but the more I look at her, the more that it seems like the black fabric is attached to her body. She is supposed to be a 17" LE doll, and based on her position in the standard-sized 17" LE doll box, there would be a considerable amount of "empty space" under her in the box.

Oh, and she's kind of growing on me, even though I still think that the 1997 Mattel Great Villains Ursula doll is the best Ursula doll made to date.

so do all the villain boxes come in color and all the princesses and now princes come in white ? Random thought.
Also there are listings on eBay already for the fairy tale collection.

Did Anyone Else Notice How Ariel's Eyes Are Gazing into a different direction on the doll that's De-Boxed lol
just wondering

@janguiano Wow you're right! Didn't notice that before! Perhaps there will be variants just like Long/short eyelashes Wedding Rapunzel.

Also I would have kinda wished they gave Ursula the Trident and crown as accessories, to recreate when she becomes enourmous, just like this doll is. Or even putting Floatsam and Jetsam around her could have been another option. She looks a little bit empty handed, compared to Gothel who comes with a Hairbrush and Lady Tremaine with the key.

And what do you say guys? Do you think there are still chances for a Surprise Wedding Ariel doll? As much as I would love to, it seems they only release a limit of 3 dolls per Series max. But it also has to be noted they released 2 Rapunzel dolls and 2 Merida dolls, so considering The Little Mermaid has a huge Fan base, it's not that impossible, I think.

Maybe unless the unboxed one was just a prototype, and i agree, Ursula does seem like she's missing something, i love your idea of having Flotsam & Jetsam, That would be Incredible
Your Right, Maybe, Just Maybe there could be Another Ariel Doll

I noticed her "skirt" as well. I'm not really sure what to think about it. I think she would have been better without it, but then the tentacles would have needed to be longer and I don't think they would have fit into the box without looking squished. I wish her arms were articulated and that she came with some kind of accessory. I'll wait until better pics are revealed though to make my final decision.

I would love for there to be a surprise LE wedding Ariel to match LE Eric. I have always loved her wedding dress and wished for an Ariel doll with a higher quality version of her wedding dress than has been made in the past. I think it is possible that this may happen. After all Ariel received a higher LE than previous princesses (except Wedding Rapunzel and Merida) and Disney is making LE Eric which is the first LE prince doll so who really knows at this point.

I'm just glad Ursula is fat. Does she look a bit funny? Sure. But these are just quick shots. Heck even Ariel's head looks a bit funny. So we'll just see. I'm sorta glad they did Eric, but it will be disappointing if he's the only guy, and they have a lot of guys to make up now, and whilst they're at it - Evil Queen please!
I hope they're not D23 exclusives, we don't even have a Disney store in Aus so for us to get to the expo is soo hard/expensive. But I don't think they'd do that to their fan base, I think it'd kick up a stink. Admittedly at least our time zone is better for ordering the dolls - 5/6pm (dependant upon time of year and state in Aus) rather than midnight. I just hope the site doesn't crash- it had probs with Ariel and she had a big edition size!

So I think I figured out how they are going to release these items at the expo. If you noticed they have released the expo guide today. It says that on Friday there will be an opening ceremony with Snow and her Prince which means that they will be releasing the exclusive D23 snow that day as well. It also says that they will be unveiling the Designer line that day as well, as to whether or not they will have preorders there I have no idea. I can't see why they would not especially since during the Disney geek video he stated that all items shown will be available at the expo. So in this case everything that was shown when the designer line was shown.

Then on Saturday the opening ceremony will be Ariel and Eric therefore I believe that is when they will release the LE Eric and Ursula dolls. Again I would believe that these would just be preorder and there is a possibility that one (I think Eric) will be D23 exclusive as it would make sense especially if he had a low edition size of say 500. If not then I am pretty confident you would be able to preorder the items. Mainly because this day is dedicated to TLM merchandise and they did show the LE dolls in the video as well. So everything that appeared initially in the video alongside the LE dolls.

then finally on Sunday it will be the release ofthe classic Mickey merchandise that they showed in the video the Mickey merchandise. I believe the nightmare stuff will just be available throughout the expo due to it being the anniversary year. But yeah that's just my theory. Only a week to go! Can't wait!

oh i hope eric isnt a D23 exclusive! I really like him and want to get him! Ill be so sad if i can't

I think that the Camera guy just captured those dolls. I don't think they will be D23 items. A DS friend said that Designer dolls yes and the exclusive one. I think whatever they spoke about will be a D23. You know Disney always confusing us lol

Guppy I don't think so They spoke about Designer dolls NBC stuff and the old school Mickey stuff which is on DS site already I think they mean those things. I think the Mermaid dolls will be released on site.

The expo will also be releasing little mermaid merchandise and I don't see why they would not include the LE dolls. In the video he does state everything will be available at the expo but if you read the program it states that they will be unveiled. So does that mean that they will just be displayed because if they disay them they should give you a chance to preorder them or else that is just a tease to show people the items and not give them a chance to order it.

I am not sure if there will be D23 exclusive LE doll but if there is I think it will likely be Eric mainly because Disney usually tries to sell exclusive items at the expo so because Eric is the first male LE doll it sorta does make it exclusive and can justify why Disney has not done othe remake characters like Flynn and Aladdin. But either way I just hope that they give you a chance to buy all the items at the expo especially since in the video he did say you can buy everything that they showed. I dunno it's just so confusing because of all the contradicting information. But then again I may just be ready too much into things probably just mentioned on a whim.

It's true that the Disney Store always keeps us guessing, as some of their actions do seem so random. For the LE dolls, I think if anything it will be options for pre-orders. I cannot see why they would actually release LE Prince Eric for sale prior to LE Ariel's shipping date/store release. That is sort of like putting the cart before the horse. Had LE Ariel's release date (not pre-order date) been during the D23 Expo time frame, then I could definitely see them officially releasing LE Prince Eric for take-home purchase during the D23 Expo. I just feel that even if the LE dolls are visible for display there, they will still be treated as the regular Designer dolls both in 2011 and 2013 were, where it is "display only: please go crazy trying to buy these later."

As for the other merchandise on the DFDC and Little Mermaid merchandise tables, I can totally see them selling those at the D23 Expo. Since Disney Geek host Ty did not talk at all about the 17" LE dolls or any of The Little Mermaid merchandise, his sweeping statement of "you can get all of these items at the Disney Store at the D23 Expo, while they last," may or may not really apply to all of the items that the cameraman caught on video as Pinkstar mentioned. But at the end of the day, anything is possible with Disney!

Yeah that is a fair point that if it was a D23 exclusive that would mean that you get the actual item the day of purchase and that it was not a preorder. I was expecting that all items would be only for preorder with the exception of the exclusive golden Snow. I was just speculating if the Prince Eric LE would be an expo exclusive but I think this would be easier to determine once we know the LE sizes for the doll. But you have a good point as well, there is a possibility that they may not even have the LEs there at the expo as they never have in the past. The only reason I thought they would be included is because the D23 guide, website and app all state that the Saturday they will be unveiling all the TLM merchandise so it sorta doesn't make sense especially if in the video they showed all this TLM merch (even if they did not talk much about it) and they leave out the LE dolls during the unveiling. I mean I thought that was the reason why they even had the whole opening ceremony with Ariel and Eric, to emphasize the fact that it is all about them that day. I would definitely think that they would not be for sale on the day (I am hoping they will be up for preorder) but I couldn't see why they would not allow include the LE in the unveiling of all the TLM merch.

I think for me my biggest worry is that they will reveal these items at the expo and that is it, as in they just reveal the items and give you all this information about how to buy them without giving you the ability to preorder them.

i understand as well that they have the Golden Snow as an exclusive but in the past the pin set and lithographs were also exclusive to the expo so I would not have been surprised if they had more than one exclusive. Granted I would not want Eric to be exclusive to the expo either due to the fact that it would not be fair for those that could not go I was just stating that the Disneystore has a knack for releasing a lot of exclusives at the expo.

i dunno like Shiva said the disneystore generally leaves you guessing so I guess we won't find out until the actual day of the expo.

I just wish that they would release some statement that said "V and W" will be exclusive to those that attend the convention and "X, Y, and Z" will be sold in stores and online at a later date. I mean, I get it, I do. It is a fantastic marketing strategy that made things go from a little ember to a wildfire. But still, I would so appreciate if they would spell things out because it is the difference between needing to find someone going to the convention and sending them money so they can buy what I want...or...just waiting till the slightly slowed website in October. I know that "Gold Snow" (but for the childish humor of it...I am gonna call "Yellow Snow") will be exclusive to the convention. That is a given because of the Silver Cindy. So, we know that, but I really hope that they tell us (much) soon(er than later) what else will be exclusive.
Cause seriously, all I want is the Ursula. If they were to just flat out say, "We are doing the Villain Secondary release just like all the other villains in the past...calm down, sit down, and shut up," I'd be totally grateful and could stop my slight panic.
:anxious:

In a slight topic change, StitchKingdom announced that "The Jungle Book" and "Sleeping Beauty" have been confirmed for special releases next year. (With Sleeping Beauty obviously being in October.) They didn't say anything about Aladdin though...so I really wonder what in the world they are doing with that movie*. I'm only in a slight panic of fear that Ursula might be a D23 exclusive. If it was the threat of Maleficent being a D23 exclusive...OH! MY! GOD! I would literally drop everything so that I could ensure that I was there and in that line...but also enraged because, I can afford a 110$ (tax) but I couldn't afford the doll...and EVERYTHING else I would have to pay for just to get there and get in.

*I wonder if they are planning on using Eric as a test. If his demand is really great and intense, then maybe they will want to make an Aladdin doll too. Also, with Villains being quite popular, maybe a successful Eric would lead to an Aladdin and a Jafar Surprise Release as well?
In all honesty, I do not believe (in the slightest) that Eric will be the last LE Male doll for a while. I would assume it's not cheap to make the new specialty mold (which is most likely why all the princesses and villains had the same size). But when it comes time to actually sell the dolls, I assume that they are making at least a 100% profit. All their suppliers and left over supplies, I'll bet that it costs them like 40$ to make these dolls. (I'm not complaining, I'm just stating.) So for them to have to make new molds for this one male doll, then I think Eric sales would make them break even or have a lesser profit than the ladies. But, when it comes to the next male(s), they will just have to make new heads because that body mold is just waiting to be refilled.

I would be pretty confident that Ursula would not be exclusive to be honest after the points raised earlier it does sound very unlikely that either of them will be exclusive I am just hoping that give you the preorder option at the expo as you usually cannot preorder any of the other dolls other than the princess ones.
