Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information
Hey guys. I'm Jack and finally decided to post here. Nice to speak to all of you.
I must say being a huge villains collector and as excited as I was about the 17" Ursula, it is a bit of a let down. I know this is only a low quality picture from a video and we haven't seen any official up close pictures, but I am not crazy about it from what I see so far. It reminds me too much of the 12" classic doll which I was never a fan of to begin with. I was just checking on ebay and saw the Mattel Ursula from the Great Villain Collection for around $70. Do you think it might just be worth saving the extra money and getting that one instead?
....I wasn't even that blown away by the Ariel. Don't get me wrong she is a beautiful doll, but it seems to be lacking something.
Hello Jack and welcome!!If you don't like the new 17" Ursula (I'm personally not impressed with her either), then I'd say yes- grab the Great Villains Ursula if she's at a reasonable price. These are two very different style dolls though- the Disney 17" is more "fashionable" and rigid, whereas I'd say the Villains Ursula captures her ghoulish grin and evil ambition. Whichever speaks to you more! I don't think either would decrease in value, so you'd have a solid collectible.
As far as Ariel, I'm glad I pre-ordered her but I agree that she didn't completely blow me away, maybe I just need to see her in person. I appreciated the fact that they put her in her mermaid form, and I know that must have been somewhat of a feat in itself, but I still think that Rapunzel, Tiana, Merida, and Snow White are the standout (princesses) of this series. But that's just my opinion
In any case, welcome! And stick around, this is officially doll season and there's almost always something exciting to read! Best of luck
@janguiano Wow you're right! Didn't notice that before! Perhaps there will be variants just like Long/short eyelashes Wedding Rapunzel.
Also I would have kinda wished they gave Ursula the Trident and crown as accessories, to recreate when she becomes enourmous, just like this doll is. Or even putting Floatsam and Jetsam around her could have been another option. She looks a little bit empty handed, compared to Gothel who comes with a Hairbrush and Lady Tremaine with the key.
And what do you say guys? Do you think there are still chances for a Surprise Wedding Ariel doll? As much as I would love to, it seems they only release a limit of 3 dolls per Series max. But it also has to be noted they released 2 Rapunzel dolls and 2 Merida dolls, so considering The Little Mermaid has a huge Fan base, it's not that impossible, I think.
Has anyone else noticed that LE Ursula appears to have a black fabric "skirt" billowing out from under her body and tentacles? At first, I thought it was a display prop, but the more I look at her, the more that it seems like the black fabric is attached to her body. She is supposed to be a 17" LE doll, and based on her position in the standard-sized 17" LE doll box, there would be a considerable amount of "empty space" under her in the box.
Oh, and she's kind of growing on me, even though I still think that the 1997 Mattel Great Villains Ursula doll is the best Ursula doll made to date.
