LOL, I've always wanted to set up a poll and see what people would say. I figure most people would do the "Not gonna think about it" routine. I try to keep it less than $150, but if it's one of my 2 trips to WDW than that trip is obviously much more. In those months, not only do I buy the pins on my vacation, but I have to pay for the pins my WDW buyer has picked up for me in between trips.
 
Between pins and the 5 days of food, hotel room and gas for the 600 mile round trip from our home for a family of 5. We are looking at close to 2500 for that one trip. Not a good thing but it what we love to do so it's worth it

I'm thinking it depends on how many years you have in the hobby? In the beginning, one tends to spend too much then learns from their mistakes. Then focuses in on a theme or two or three or...... Then the bulk of the money goes for the Grails in those themes. Once the experience settles in, then the selling off traders that can't be traded and multi trades and specific auctions are won/lost.

I remember spending $$$ because I bought the new DLR releases and a second one to trade. Usually 3-4 released per month not counting the ebay transactions. so that would be 6-8 maybe more more so $60-80 before tax. But back then we had Creat-a-pin, monthly PTN pins, Surprise Pins, Sunday releases so there was the 4 releases then came Holiday pins, LE releases.

I spend about less than $50 per month but recoup that cost due to upgrade trades and sales. For the last 2 years I have managed to get my core collection free of cost and downgrading my Trades so I will only need the new releases that are released. So you may ask also how many years have you been imprisoned in this unrehabable hobby.

when we go to the events it is a lot of money over $2,500 with the pins from events and purchasing otherwise, so don't want to know on a regular basis. But it is an ouch!
 

Most of this would be me! though I spend a lot more if it's for my collection or that one pin i care for...
 
Well of course, it depends on which month it is. It just depends on what pins are released, and which pins come up for sale on ebay.

Sometimes in the past, I have spent as little as $50, sometimes up to $200. This month, however, is already my most expensive month since I started collecting (and it's only June 3rd!). I've already spent almost $300, and expect to spend about $300 more before the month's end.

Luckily, I've been planning for this month for a long while. I have known since last Fall that the month of June 2012 would see the grand opening of Cars Land, as well as the premiere of Brave. Therefore since January, I have been saving $100-$200 per month, just for this occasion.
 
I never ask how much i've spent, or how many I have. Once I know either number I can get a rough estimate of how much has been spent... and that's not a fun thought..

I had to do this once for insurance purposes when my collection was at my parents place. It's a BIG eye opener as to how expense this hobby is.
 
Well, nowadays, it's probably not much more than $50-75 a month (unless it's a pin event month, or I find something on eBay).

But back when DS.com was in full swing, let's see...$120ish per set, one to keep, one to trade, so about $300 a week (unless it's Christmas or Halloween). So probably around $1,200 a month, maybe more if I did Parks, too.

Although I'd like an occasional pin from DS.com, I have to say, I don't miss dropping that much money a month...
 
Due to overspending last year by a HUGE amount, the hubby put me on a budget this year. $50/month, unless it was a special event month, then I got $75 (so, 5x a year due to NYE, Anniversary, Flower/Garden, Food/Wine, and Christmas). I did really really well with it. . . for the first two to three months. Then it went out the window (gotta love retail therapy), and I hate to see it in September with the pin event! eek!!

But then again, I'm trying to save up so the next couple of months may be skint.


EDIT: I forgot - I also received a $15/month budget for trades & postage, so in reality it was 65 or 90/month.

30$ a month between my grandma and I.

We're realativly poor people, but pins make her happy, so I try my best. Today was her birthday so she got to spend 25 of the 30.
 
As many of the more experienced traders have stated, I have narrowed my collection down to one category having filled several boards with other categories so I spend very little now. It would be impossible at this time to recall how much I spent monthly when I first started, especially since I lived 5 minutes from Disneyland and was there nearly every day at the time. I would have to say that I have spent about $20,000 on pins and all of the trips to DL and WDW to get pins in the 10 years I have been trading. Of course, I have to consider that I probably would have spent a comparable amount a other trips somewhere else if it wasn't to Disney so it is really hard put a real number on it. It has been worth every penny as pin trading has been a hobby for all five members of my family and we have more memories than pins and it is impossible to assign a value on them.

P.S. I noticed in previous posts you wanted pirate pins. I have ten years of collecting sitting in a closet. Wanna help me offset my compulsion?
