As a Premier Passholder for the last 2 yrs, I've spent quite a bit on pins both at DLR & WDW. Have enjoyed the 20% discount. That discount has encouraged me to buy more pins for trading. I've heard it thru the grapevine, that Jan 1 this reverts back to 10%. (I know that most places at WDW had NO discount before.) BUT I just sent an email to WDW Merchandise letting them know I'll be spending a LOT LESS w the lower discount
boo hiss :(

I'm kind of worried about Disneyland's Passholder discounts too. I've heard some are set to expire at the end of this year. I hope they don't change too much!

That rumor has been circulating since DLR (at least) upped the Premium/Premier discount to 20%. Before, only the premium passholders got 10% and the non-premium got zero (for merchandise). For food, I believe it used to be 10% regardless of level of passport, but then raised to 15% for premium and stayed at 10% for non-premium.

I'm pretty sure it will be sticking around for a while. Check DISBoards for more information (their budget board is extremely helpful!)

originally, the 20% discount was a temporary thing from what I recall. Originally the premium passholder discount was lower. Several times since the increase rumors have been tossed around that it was going to revert back to the lower amount, but it has not happened yet.

I strongly encourage all passholders to sent polite but pointed emails, letters or phone calls, telling them that if the discount gets reduced, the amount of money spent on souvenirs will be drastically reduced. Maybe the letters and phone calls are the reason it has stayed high? OR maybe the rumors have always been just rumors and disney has no intention of changing the discounts?

Must like everyone else has said, the 20% was something that was supposed to be temporary. Every year there are multiple rumors that it will be reverting back to what it used to be. Hopefully this year will not be the year that comes true. I doubt it though, as Disney has to know that we will buy less merchandise for sure.

At the rate Disney has been raising passholder prices, especially premium, I think it would be ridiculous for them to reduce the discounts for premium holders. That kind of move would make it so that the only thing that justifies the cost is the parking inclusion. I would rather just have a deluxe pass and pay for the parking add on. Or get rid of the pass all together.

It's kind of like a Disney version of the fiscal cliff. Temporary discount increases that keep getting extended and extended until everyone gets used to them and suddenly the rug gets pulled out from under you. Then the response is, well we said it was only temporary.

Agreed, the big reason I'm rationalizing getting an ap for my next trip is the 20% discount. If they get rid of the discount then, since I don't love close enough to the park to use the so frequently enough, I will probably just stick to regular tickets. :dunno:

Now I'm REALLY glad I didnt renew my AP! I had the Premium pass just for the discount, but after Disney raised the prices on it not once, but twice in the year I had it & bumped the price up almost $300, I decided it wasnt worth it. It would have been over $1000 for us to renew at the new prices & we realized "hey we can go somewhere really nice for that amount of money!" so Disney doesnt get my money anymore (except for pins) and even then its DSF & secondary market for those now.

I can confirm the 20% will be over at least for wdw. It was posted on the hub yesterday..

The passes seem to be leaning on the side of "unaffordable" for a lot of American families now-a-days. I realize they are probably trying to make up lost revenue, but I wish they would consider what they could make up through volume were they to keep the prices lower and more affordable to the general public.

Wow! I was considering upgrading JUST to get the 20%! That really sucks! What do all of these people do that can allow them to afford the passes, premium hotel stays, etc. Crazy crazy crazy!

Oops, not the right sue. sorry!

i never got money off anything so i dont mind it going down for me. disney is getting more expensive and more stingey!

Hi GhostTrains - I did find your TA of 1 pin for 2 possible pins of mine (1 for 1 trade); no 30 pin offer. I've sent you emails. Lets continue this discussion via email or PM
Thank you

WDW Passholder Discount

Info is here:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/discounts/discounts-ap.htm#merchandise

Yup, down to 10% starting 1/1/13.

I have yet to see anything about DLR going down. I hope it doesn't happen! But right now, according to their AP page:
http://disneyland.disney.go.com/special-offers/merchandise-for-passholders/

From now until December 31, 2012, purchase merchandise at select Disneyland Resort locations and receive the following Passport discounts:

  • Premium – 20%
  • Deluxe – 10%
  • SoCal – 10%
  • SoCal Select – 10%

So, I wonder if it will go down to 10% for Premium and nothing for non-premium?

I hope no but we shall see on 1/3/13 (that's when I next go to DLR!)

Whew! Disney has forgotten about this family. We don't get those anymore :(

I just renewed my annual pass a week ago, and the CM at the ticket booth gave me a flyer which stated that the premium pass merchandise discount will now be only 10%. I also read somewhere that tax in Anaheim will be going up, so the discount will pretty much only cover tax! BOOOO

Maybe if we all go on a Disney pin boycott, we'll get our 20% discount back

Sis took a picture of Backstage Pass (December 2012 - May 2013). Here it is (close-up):

So for those premium who may only get 10% off starting 1/1/13, I'd say, bring a copy of your backstage pass!

I also read somewhere that tax in Anaheim will be going up...

The tax rate, in California, will be rising at least a quarter percent state wide for four years, thanks to all the California voters who voted for a tax increase on this past election's ballot. Still can't believe a majority voted that thing in. I'm seriously thinking that people vote based on commercials and don't actually read the fine print where it stated that everyone would be subject to the tax increase and not only rich people. Can't wait to hear the bitching on that one, if they even notice, since they probably don't read receipts either.

There are a LOT of suckers in CA (my whole family voted NO!) The only way for a tax increase to make it through is if they tell us about the poor children in school who are losing out because the taxes we already voted in for schools got used for something else. Schools and roads/transportation - those two make people say okay to taxes (except me!)
