I just got back yesterday from vacation where we spent two days at DLR and had a great day trading, had lots of fun and made some good trades. We especially had some good luck with cast members, and got some nice rack pins, and even one cool LE pin from them. However as I have been sitting here looking at my pins I just noticed that my Disneyland Princess Castle series pins are gone. They were all in a row in the middle of my book, and somehow disappeared while I was trading at the park (as I saw them while I was there, and this is the first time I've unzipped it since I returned home). I guess I should have been keeping a closer eye on my pins while I was at the park, but still... this has left a bad taste in my mouth, and really makes me angry. It sucks that there's always one person out there who's willing to do whatever it takes to get what they want.

Oh no!!! :( no way it was misplaced?

Nope. I had them at the park (I know because I had traders ask me about them), and haven't opened my bag until just now, and they're all gone. If it was one of them, or a couple pins from the same page, I would think I just lost them... but all of the Princess Castle pins? Nope. They're not misplaced, as much as I wish they were.

You said 'we', does anyone else trade out of your book? It might seem like a strange question but a lot of families share collections/trade books. Also, where were you that you left your book unattended? I'm so sorry to hear about your missing pins. I've had a number of pins stolen right out of my book and it's always so disheartening to discover :( but in the end, I believe in karma, both good and bad. Good karma will come back to you, and bad karma will come back to whoever stole them, and give that person a well deserved kick in the pants!!

"we" is my wife and I. She does lanyard trading with me, but I'm the only one with a book, and the only one that has traded at the tables. She sometimes watches, but she would never remove pins from my book, as she has no where to put them (plus, I asked her and she's just as upset about it as I am... so I'm pretty sure she didn't take them).

I will still be trading with CM's at the parks, but I don't plan on trading at the tables anymore. First of all, I just plain don't have that great of pins to begin with. I feel like a guppy when I'm there. Second, the pins are heavy to lug around all day, especially since next time we go to the park we'll have two kids younger than 2... it's just not easy. Third, I don't like having to watch my pins like a hawk. I have incorrectly, and naively, made the assumption that traders wouldn't steal pins out of other peoples books. I enjoy talking to traders, checking out their pins, etc... but if I have to guard my pins so some sneaky thief doesn't come steal them, I won't be able to focus on others the way I'd like to... it would just take too much of the fun out of it for me.

I enjoy my associations with people on this forum. I have met some of you in person, and have set up some awesome trades, done some fun auctions, etc. I will stick around this forum... but my days of lugging my pins to the park are gone.

This has happened to me and it taught me a lesson not to leave my books unattended!

:-( sad I know but don't let one loser mess up your future fun.

Vicki

That has happened to me as well. at one pin event a whole page of paris ptn pin was taken. now i only leave 1 book out at a time and the rest are put away. and i do believe in pin karma as well. and in the end the sticky fingered person will get theirs. I know a couple who had a whole book taken once as well.

your wife idnt sneak them out to have them framed as a gift for an upcoming anniversary or anything?

please send me a pm with the pin #'s. I am at DLR regularly and can look around for a suspiciously new set if you like.

I don't even look at the tables anymore. It just isn't a magical feeling. I'll play it safe and stick to CM trading and trading here on the forum or buy off of ebay. I'm very sorry you had to experience this. I hope the rest of your trip went well!

so... wow, 2 different people had pins stolen at the park yesterday huh? You both should file with security and see if they can look into the security camera's. Chances are someone who steals from traders is also lifting from the stores. They may need info from you to help nab whoever it is. Filing a theft complaint will not do our trade hobby any harm.

+1
That's a great idea. If there's two people, I'm sure there are more...

Our pins would have been stolen on Thursday, the day of the PODM release. The thing is... I have better pins in my book than those, and those were strictly traders, as I don't collect princesses... so I should really count my blessing they didn't try to take my PODM, or any of my LE pins. However... I wish they would have taken some of my puffles/hannah montana garbage instead...

OMG!!! Are you serious? I would check with security. This subject won't be taken lightly when it comes to guests shoplifting. Trust me, I've witnessed this type of stuff before and it's not pretty. Do you remember the faces of everyone you traded with?

I think I had a few pins stolen from me during the first PTN back in May unfortunately. Can't recall which ones but I know when I came home and looked through all of my pins to re-organize that some had been missing. They were pins that no one was interested in that night which is how I know they were gone. Luckily they weren't super hard, uber rare LEs or anything like that. Sorry to hijack your thread, just sharing a personal experience.

Let me see if I have any of the pins you had send me a PM of the Pinpics numbers so I know what pins you are talking about, Im so sad this happened to you, really disheartening, and so frustrating that someone who shares the love of what we do could be so low down, really not cool at all.

There are plenty of really great pin traders that use the tables..please don't blackball all the people there trading. Some traders will even go way out of their way to make your trading experience magical...Donna M from San Diego and Eddie are amazing and often give people way more than they want. Don't be afriad to stop by and say hi...if someone is not friendly then keep on to the next. Someone will make your day:) or at least try.

I have had pins stolen as well at PTN in Florida. It just baffles me that people stoop that low. It does make the hobby less fun.

I'm sorry you had this happen to you!

I'm not trying to say the people at the tables suck or are rude or take advantage or single anyone out, I'm just saying that I personally choose not to go to the tables to trade for pins because it hasn't been a magical experience for me in the past. I'm sure there are really nice people out there willing to bend over backwards for other pin traders, but when I'm at Disney I choose to CM trade. It's more of a treasure hunt that way. Hey, if you want to venture over there and take a look at what they have to offer, be my guest! I hope it's a great experience for you! :) Now, I hope this doesn't turn into a drama thread.

yeah there are a lot of kind people when you actually trade them.
I've had a lady (just yesterday) tell me I was a waste of her time, just because she didn't have anything I wanted. Its called pin trading for a reason not trade your pin away that you worked hard to get.

and Eddie is AWESOME!!

there have been tons of cool people and tons of not so cool people.
in the end its just like anywhere else you would go
(good and bad people)

no hard feelings

love the name btw (:
