I strongly advise everyone to NOT buy any of the pre-sales for DSF's May releases. My reasons are as follows:

1. Prices always drop after the actual pins have been released.

2. The market is always flooded with them right after the release so every seller is trying to drive the price down so they can sell their's fast.

3. There are always pins for sale after the release. You don't have to "secure" your sets because there are always more pins than the demand for the pins immediately after the release.

4. If you don't pay people in advance they will have less of an incentive to get the pins which basically means they will show up later for the line up and the less time people waste in line that generally means they will ask for less so the overall cost of the pins in the marketplace is lowered.

5. Since DSF changed the rules at the last minute (from 2 sets per person to 1 set per person) they can do the exact same thing. If you buy a pre-sale from a seller who's selling two sets and then suddenly they are restricted to one set that's gonna suck for you.

6. I always get a bunch of sets (around 4-16 sets assuming 2 per person) after the releases so you can always hit me up and I tend to sell at the market value at the time. Since the prices ALWAYS drop after the pins have been released I will be cheaper then the pre-sales. I'm not encouraging anyone to buy from me. I'm just stating that the BEST time to buy the pins is IMMEDIATELY after the release (CHEAPER than the pre-sales FOR SURE. UNLESS you think the hype will fizzle and then the best time would be a few weeks after the release.
 
Great post until point 6, But sellers like you having up to seven"Employees" with you to buy the pins doesn't help the process. Each seller brings "Employees" with them. If none of them did that, then there would be less stress for actual collectors who love the pins and not the $$$$.
 

Agreed, I'm guilty of it as well but at this point everyone does it. At least I pay my people so it's all free will from them. Also, I don't like to drive up the prices unlike the pre-sellers. I personally think the PRE-sellers cause more chaos then the RE-sellers after the pins have been released.
 
With the Iron Man release, I am assuming that it will be 1 set per person. There will be 500 wristbands handed out. The first 300 will get a set and a Surprise pin (or first 150) if released while the next 200 will get a Marquee and the leftovers.

There were less than 350 at the BT release, I'm guessing there will be close to if not more than 500 as many will bring "friends" to better the chances of getting one of the first 300 wristbands. The odds are there but to make the assumption that you will guarantee to be within the first 300 and pre selling, you have some balls. The only thing that a pre sale does is give the seller ready cash that they do not necessarily have to purchase the pins on their own. Some do as they use credit or cash but many of the new DSF generation do not. Many Sellers or pre sellers either ended their auctions or had to refund their money. You think people do not chat who refunded money? Even in the DSF lines there is the chats about "do you know who ....."

There will be pin collectors, there will be Marvel people and there will be resellers. In today's DSF there us only 1 guarantee - DSF will make is money.

I would wait until the morning comes and you'll see "guaranteed wristband pre sales" on the web sites. And then, you'll see everyone undercutting to make a fast $ so they can get their set for free and some ready free cash for the next release or buy that overpriced grail that would not be bought if not for the "Golden Wristband".

And on that not, see you there.
 

Both are the problem as NON-sellers have to do what they feel they must to get there before sellers with multiple employees trying to hoarde up all the pins. If you want to sell your pins, I have no problem with that. If you need to pay someone to go with you to buy another two sets, I have no problem with that either, but if you are truly trying to "Do right for the community" as you preach, don't be greedy by bringing 4-7 people with you. bring 1 or 2 and be happy with that. sell your pins and make your money and take your extra money that you saved a buy some ice cream!!!
 

Ok, not saying your wrong but just tossing out another point of view. If someone does bring help to a release, it does make it very slightly more difficult for locals to get the pin directly from DSF. If they don't do randomized wristbands, it means that they just got there before you did. They put in more time. If you get there earlier problem solved. Consider yourself lucky for being able to try and attend a release and buy the pins directly due to your location. There are many people that do not live close to DSF that still like their pins. Hate to say it but its all about supply and demand. The demand is there for those non locals. The more that end up in the hands of the resellers, the greater supply and buyers have more options to shop for the lowest price. More reseller = lower prices.

Another way to look at it is that the less sellers that have it, the higher the secondary market. Trading values go up when resale value goes up. The pins become better traders the more limited the supply. When you really think about it. Its the collectors that drive up the values of pins since they take their collections off the trade and resale markets.

With that said, I just want to say that whatever reason someone has for getting a pin, good for them. If they want to keep it for their collection, use it as a trader or sell it. Good for them. Anyone is free to do what they want with their pins and no reason for wanting a pin is wrong. I personally don't like people isolating sellers. Is someone selling it for profit really that different from someone that bought it to trade for a harder pin? Both didn't buy it for themselves and are getting something of greater value of it from someone else.

I do think presales for most items are a waste. The only presales I think are good are ones where an item is prepurchased and just not picked up yet, like event RSPs and even in a sense the Enchanted Beloved Tales once it was paid for at DSF.
 
I have to agree with Kilian here. If we are just patient, and wait for day of release, chances are there wont be so much pinsanity and multi day camping.

I am one of those so cal locals who CAN go to DSF releases but in general, I choose not to. The only time I can camp out is if its a one nighter and a saturday release. How often does THAT happen these days?????

I also in general cannot afford the out of pocket of buying the pins in order to re-sell them to friends, so i have to presell or it's a gamble for me to buy them.

What Kilian suggests would possibly *not gaurenteed* but possibly, reduce the multi night camp outs because the presellers wouldn't have so much incentive to be there 48 hours + early. Which would be good for folks like me, who would really like to be able to go and pick up pins for out of state friends, but won't risk the pinsanity of the recent BT release.

FYI: i heard that Ebay is going to be changing how presales work and availablity of funds... This change could seriously effect the DSF camp out lines as well.

If only it were that easy. As great as that sounds to wait for the true prices to come around, if all the pins sell out on Ebay in that month's time, how can people not near DSF get them? Unless people who attended the release would be willing to not sell their pins for a month and then sell them at extremely fair prices ^_^ Ozzie, if you're offering that for the Iron Man release, I'd gladly wait a month to buy them off you for a great price
 
plus the person you may be pre-buying from just takes your money buys pins. Relist them for more. Refund your money and tell you they didn't get them.
 


I would buy the set for you you're second on my people to offer so if they don't want it we can work out a trade you have great pins to trade

I have always said the same thing as far as when people get there. I have no problem being 100th to get a pin. they all look the same.
