Hey! So, I'm still a little new to the pinpics trade thing and I sent out one of my first trade requests for my grail, not really thinking I'd get it. The person wrote back saying that they would do the trade. I'm a little worried about it though because I've heard of other people sending their pin off and never getting the other one. Does anyone know of a way to ensure that wont happen?

Maybe you can ask a pinpics mod to involve as a third person, you both sent the pin to them and the mod sends the pin to you and the other person.

Did you also check the reference of this trader? If he/she has good reference and made a trade not to long ago I shouldn't worry :)

I put their email into the reference thing and it said that they have two trades they have done, one in december.

but it doesnt say any specific review, but I'm not sure if the site is supposed to.

You can never guarantee that anyone will ever follow through with a trade. On pinpics, DPF, or any other pin trading site. Online trading is based upon faith and trust, and maybe a little pixie dust. I have had 2 bad trades through pinpics, most have been fine (even international).

Do you have references on pinpics? I see you've been active here for 3 months and have 3 positive feedbacks, all for purchases. So, the person who accepted the trade might be asking the same question as you.

What type of pin are you giving up for your grail? Is it a grail type pin? Is it a pin you are okay with not having if the other person never sends their pin? These are things you need to consider.

I havent written back yet. I just got the email when I got online a little while ago and wanted to see what the suggestion was before I open my mouth and do something wrong lol.

I dont have references on pinpics, but that's because this would be my first trade there. I have traded once on the forums here, but I'm waiting for her pin before reviews can go up. (She's been busy with school and we ended up missing eachother last night at the ptn.)

For my grail. I'm giving up one of my wdi pins. I mean. I dont know if it's something I'm willing to loose if the person never trades back, but that's also because I dont have many pins as is.

Since you are both new to PinPics:
yes, see if a moderator would be the 3rd party that would handle the trade as Mickeymousje suggests above. That way, if only one person sends a pin, mod would send it safely back to that sender. If both follow thru w sending, mod would forward the trades appropriately. Safest way to do it

Well I responded to the person asking if we could use a 3rd person for the trade and he quickly told me that he already traded with someone else. Oh well. Too good to be true. At least I was able to keep from loosing my pin. Thanks to everyone for the advice! :D

I wouldn't base your decision solely off references. I only have one, but I have done many trades and they have all went well. I think some people don't know that you can leave references. But I would use a mod if you're worried. Hope your trade works out :)

I was going to ask that same question, lol, as one person's grail can be another's average trader. As for depending on the # of refs a person has was all it depended on, I'd have made a lot less trades over the years, lol. You can get a feel for the person if you converse in the emails and see if they converse back and get to know them a little. I tend to be long-winded in a lot of my trade acceptances or responses to acceptances just for things like that. Over close to a dozen years now through PinPics, I would say I have encountered maybe 3 or 4 bad traders, only one of which cost me more than a single pin, and it was one that cost a lot of people and eventually got caught, so the vast majority involved in this hobby on PinPics are good people and most are great to chat with and some you even get to know a little. I have been the first ref for a few I'm sure, as I believe all should get a chance. One thing you can do if they only have a couple of references is to contact the reference and ask how their experience was with this person, and no there is no way on DizPins ref to rate it. As a newbie, you're allowed to wonder but usually the questions will be directed the other way as many are hesitant to trust someone with no refs at all, so it works both ways and don't be surprised if some ask you to send your pin(s) first so they can be sure they will get theirs before sending. I recall doing that with a couple of my first trades way back when, but I think maybe I have enough refs over there to be considered safe now, LOL! Not so many here as it took me time to find this place, but starting to settle in now and working on it. :hsd:

Thanks for the advice. It was the beloved tales rapunzel for my WDI cats. I had a feeling it was too good to be true, which was the main reason I asked if there was any way to protect myself in case it was since those are my best trading pins that I have. I decided to collect Rapunzel and Mulan pins and I'm sort of scared that if I keep waiting to get it, I never will, but I just dont have the money to buy it.
