Hi everyone! I'm Ach (it's just pronounced 'H').
I try to keep a small, heavily curated collection of pins, & am hoping joining here will give me a chance to trade away my epically bad luck with blind bags to other collectors who actually want them.

I do have a question - is it only possible to trade if I also have an account on one of the pin database websites. . . ?

Welcome. So you can trade by posting pictures of your traders here or on places like Facebook. Having a database website profile helps but is not always necessary. You can start posting in the trade forum here once you meet the guidelines for the marketplace.

Welome to the forum! If your goal is to complete blind box sets, Pin & Pop’s Trade Arcades have been a great way for me to accomplish this task. The economics of making single pin trades with people (which many people don’t like to do on low value pins) and having to mail multiple packages vs making trades with a dozen people and only having to mail out a single box can not be understated in terms of cost & efficiency. Not to mention their service helps alleviate concerns about flaky traders, scammers snd counterfeit pins.

Otherwise, you can post photos and a list of wants. Often, I do a combo approach. Make a trading connection among my DPF friends, agree on the pins involved, but conduct the trade via P&P.

Welcome Ach. Pin and pop trade arcade is good as well as PinPics for trading with trade assist. On DPF once you meet the requirements, you can post your wants and trades in the trade forum.

I'm not trying to complete sets - almost the opposite, really!
I usually only want one or two pins from a blind bag set, the very specific characters I collect, & end up with with a pile of pins I don't want trying to get them. So I'm hoping to trade these for other pins I don't have access to.
I'm aware that some of the pins I'm interested in are rarer than what I have to trade (though how much so I only have a loose idea of, since I haven't traded before), but I'm cheerfully willing to do multiple-for-one pin trades.

That works too! I've also done those types of trades too. So many Park and Loungefly blind boxes where I only need one pin. Good luck!

Hi and Welcome!

If you live near the parks (specifically Disneyland, I don't know if Disney World does this) and are only interested in one or two of the blind boxes, have you considered their in-park shadowbox trading, provided of course, that you see the pin you want inside said shadowbox? The additional caveat is that you must purchase and open a specific blind box in front of the cast member(s) and trade for the pin you want then and there, but it can be worth it if you are chasing a specific pin from that set because you only have to purchase on box. You either get the pin you want in the box you have purchased or you will be able to trade for it immediately.

No, nowhere near close enough to Disneyland (or Disneyworld) to casually visit for pins!
I did get a lot of my blind-boxed traders there during a recent vacation; but not a single store had the shadow boxes available (& I did ask about them) while I was there, unfortunately. And all of the boards had nothing but scrappers. . . .
Also, most of my pins are from Box Lunch, which definitely doesn't give you any options other than 'buy more pins'.

Welcome!

Looks like members are answering your questions.

I will check out your traders when you are able to post. I also routinely only want a pin or two from the blind boxes. Trading is a great way to not have to keep buying more blind boxes. Hopefully we will be able to assist each other.

Are you looking for specific themes or characters? (EX: I collect Mickey Mouse, so there are a lot of one-off ISO I have from blind boxes.)

What I collect is a bit tricky, because I have a lot of movies & characters I collect for . . . but I don't plan on getting everything for any of them, & 'if I like the pin' is a bit of a vague description.

That said, my favorites that I'm actively seeking out are:
Mulan (not the villains)
Robin Hood
The Lion King (specifically Zazu)
Aladdin (specifically Iago)
Encanto
The Rescuers/The Rescuers Down Under (also not the villains)
Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers
Gummi Bears (if there are even pins for this. . . .)
Lilo & Stich (only 625/Reuben)

Plus I'll grab pins from other movies or theme park rides I like if something I really love shows up. I also overall prefer smaller pins, pins that show the full character instead of a cutoff head or torso (unless the pin specifically has a frame design) . . . & I absolutely love the Pin Trader Delight pins in general, though I'm afraid they'll be beyond what I can trade for.

I don't suppose the 'Mickey Mouse as skipper' from the Disneyland Jungle Cruse set is one of the pins you're looking for?

Love the thought behind your collection. Smart to not be completeist... completist is a way to end up with pins I don't really like. That said, I am only a couple of pins away from being Porg complete (from the known pins in the databases.) The most in any database is 30 and I am missing 4.

I am not sure if Mickey Mouse as Skipper is an ISO based on the limited info... but maybe?

If it helps, it's this pin on Pin & Pop:
92309 - Attraction Mystery Map Puzzles: Jungle Cruise (DLR) - Mickey Mouse - Disneyland Resort
(I haven't worked out posting photos yet, I just realized last night I'm going to have to use a third-party site, & I haven't decided on one I'm comfortable with yet. Can you use a Google account for photos?)
I was able to get my limit of two when the Jungle Cruse Map blind boxes were available online, thinking it wouldn't matter what I got because I liked the set overall . . . & then got two of the exact same pin. I wasn't kidding when I said I had bad luck with blind bags.

Which four do you need?

Hmm, hadn't really considered that Mickey pin. I don't have it. And its cute. But I also don't care much for puzzle pins... mostly because they look like a puzzle piece and are shaped weird if you don't complete the mystery set. If it was easy to trade for or when I see it in person would probably be two deciding criteria.

Which four do you need?
I sent in a PM... and will share if @Ach West is also interested in knowing, but don't want to derail their intro thread with my Porg search. :)

I understand that - I've seen a lot of the 'object shaped' sets that look wonderful when they're all together - but only if you have all of them. I don't think the map sets are quite as bad, & specifically this pin looks nice because it's from the top boarder. Nothing is cut off, so it looks nice as a stand alone pin (especially compared to the matching pin from the Disneyworld set, where the boat is split across three different pins!).
And I absolutely love the effect used for the water! (I'm not just hyping up a pin I want to trade, I am keeping one of the two for my personal collection & I really love it.)

Let's see if this actually works to upload photos. . . . (Please tell me if anyone can or can't see this!)
