Hi guys,

New to the forum and just have a few questions.

Firstly, I'm predominantly a Haunted Mansion collector. I see most HM pins now days are LE releases. Is this actually the case or am I missing releases of open issue pins? (excluding the blind boxes of course).

Secondly, El Capitan pins. Where are these released? I assume there is a location called El Capitan?

Thirdly, does anyone know of a website who offer a park pickup type service? Living in UK, it makes getting hold of even just standard park pins quite challenge.

Apologies for the questions, but google hasn't been much help on these questions.

1. I am not overly sure, but most of the ones I see are LE or LR. That doesn't mean there aren't any OE, just that I haven't seen them.

2. El Capitan pins are from the El Capitan Theatre at the Disney Soda Fountain in California! c:

3. This forum! MerlinEmrys, timeerkat, and Shelterkat/Speezard all have threads that offer pick ups at cost. I don't think Timeerkat ships internationally, but I am sure someone is more than willing to be your US proxy!

Ah fantastic. So the El Capitan and ice cream ones are from the same location? Apologies, I know there is an abbreviation for the ice cream ones, (PSTD or something like that) but I keep on forgetting it. lol

Any hardcore Haunted Mansion collectors you can direct me to for advice and scrapper/counterfeit comparison etc?

As far as I am aware, HM pins aren't usually counterfeited/scrapped. Maybe some of the open edition ones with the Fab 5 might be but I haven't heard anything about that. While HM is a really popular ride, the pins aren't the most popular in the community. The princesses, Tink, Jessica, and other characters tend to be scrapped not the ride pins.

HM park pins lately, other than the new DLR annual passholder pin that came out yesterday, have been OE it seems. There were 2 mystery box sets, along with a framed key set, and other commemorative sets, couple years ago celebrating it's anniversary.
El Capitan releases, as mentioned above is in Hollywood, CA, and are even tough for those that try locally, depending on the characters of course.
Welcome, hope you enjoy this hobby as most of us do.

Also regarding pickups , everyone previously mentioned are amazing people and great for US pins . If you're looking for Paris Pins you can try Taram for anything OE , or you can contact their Mail order department . They ship to the UK :)
Remember that DLP has Phantom Manor not Haunted Mansion too if you're looking through PinPics

Hello, Welcome to DPF.

A good way to keep track of OE pins is to check on the WDW Disney Shopping App for smart phones. You won't be able to order through the app since you are international. But since there aren't any flyers for OE pins, and they are slow to be added to the pin trading inventory websites like Pinpics and people don't always talk about them, the app is a good place to see what's available in one place. Unfortunately, it's only what's available at WDW and DL can have different pins (expecially during Haunted Mansion Holiday) time. Right now I get 9 results for HM pins, mostly booster / mystery sets.

As for counterfeit / scrapper Haunted Mansion pins. When Pin Trading first started, Haunted Mansion was one of the most popular themes and there were several pins that were worth hundreds of dollars. This made them prime candidates for counterfeiting, and so many of the older pins you have to watch out for. Unfortunately, a lot of the information about which pins and what to look out for has been lost over the years as the trading community has turned over. There used to be another forum, similar to this one called Dizpins. It still exists on the web, but the pictures in threads don't.

I know Pinpics #263 WDW E-Ticket, #1098 the WDAC Haunted Mansion Dangle, #2028 Dead End pin, and the Jumbo Haunted Mansion Holiday Translucent pins were definitely counterfeited. But the details have long slipped my memory. There is counterfeit info for the Dead End pin on Pinpics, see #54054. There were probably others that I have completely forgotten about. The market for Haunted Mansion changed a lot after the Disneyland O'pin House summer event in 2009. I don't know if any of that series are a problem. There is a poster here named Guy the Ghoul who collects HM, maybe try to PM him.

Once scrappers entered the market, some pins from Haunted Mansion framed sets got caught up in it. The most infamous is probably Caesar's Ghost, supposedly a LE25! but you will see it on lanyards many times in one day #53210 on Pinpics.

Thanks guys. All enormously helpful info.

Speedwaystar, ye, been looking into Phantom Manors, but most seem to be involving outside characters. A lot of Alice ones in the last few years. For the sake of finance, I'm gonna have to streamline to just the attraction characters (bride, gracey, hatbox, phineus, gus etc); pure HM/PM if you will lol

hopemax, my good god! Thanks so much. So much info there I've had to screen grab it for all future reference. I picked up a collection on eBay in about October, was 3 auctions of HM pins. They seem to be genuine after pawing through the scrapers and counterfeit posts on here. Waffles all the way to the edge, clean colours etc.

There are OE and LR releases of HM pins as well.

Well, El Capitan pins are typically marquees that identify the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, CA. Those, as well as DSSH (Disney Studio Store Hollywood) pins are sold by Disney Studio Store Hollywood, which is connected with the Ghirardelli Chocolate Store in Hollywood, CA. Formerly known as Disney's Soda Fountain & Studio Store.

Timeerkat (for DSSH pins), Shelterkat/Speezard (for DLR pins) and MerlinEmrys (for WDW pins). Unfortunately, Timeerkat doesn't ship internationally but will ship to someone in the US that can then ship internationally. Like if you order from Shelterkat/Speezard or MerlinEmrys, they can probably coordinate to have one large package shipped out per month or so.

Thanks Starry, I've got a guy state side who takes in pieces for me, so they would work out ok. This months is gonna be pricey; couple of autographs, Couple of PTDs and Funko minis, but then 8 Star Wars Tiki mugs lol pins, no probs after that.

Wow! Such wonderful answers here! Hahah!

If you ever need a US address proxy, just let me know. :) I'm happy to collect some stuff for you from various pickups or trades and send it all out in one lump package. :3

Welcome to Pin Trading! This is quite an addicting hobby and pricy too, but once you get the hang of it, itll all be worth it. Funds wise, and time wise. The majority of trading could be found on Instagram, and Facebook. Feel free to contact me via Instagram for WDI / DSSH / DSF pins (No Park Pins for me). I do ship international. IG: @rei_disney

What a lot of us do in the U.K. is buy the LE pins released on the Disney Store UK site and trade them for foreign pins. I do also purchase pins from online quite a bit but with the terrible exchange rate at the moment things are pretty expensive. As others have suggested DLP does offer a mail service although Phantom Manor is not really the same as Haunted Mansion except in theming (the characters and backstory are different- and much more sinister!) but in general DLP does make the most gorgeous OE pins.

Can you clarify if you meant counterfeited? Why would character pins be scrapped more than ride pins, since scrappers are quality control, which should apply to everything?
I use scrapped to mean both counterfeited and scrapped. I know they aren't interchangeable but I've seen "scrapped" used to mean both counterfeited and scrapped by Disney. The characters are counterfeited more than the rides just because they are more popular. Jessica and the princesses tend to fall victim of counterfeiting more than the rides, at least today.
