I've been seeing some small collections recently. One I really liked was of Lotso from Toy Story. Anyone else have a not so popular character pin collection. I really like Peter Pan and have considered trying to collect all the Smee (also my hamsters' name!) pins. It doesn't seem too big.

I collect Djali pins! But I say collect, he's tougher to get hold of than I thought. I have one so far  Hope to advance this collection though.. there's not many pins of him in existence.

Also, your hamster is adorable.

I collect Humphrey the Bear, who was featured in a few of the animated shorts from the 1950's.

I collect a lot of not so popular characters since I have always seemed to prefer the not so popular Disney movies.
But one collection that sticks out is James and the Giant Peach.
I am a completest as I own all 3 pins

Brave Little Toaster - I am a completist with one pin! :D My other obscure-ish collection is Rescue Rangers (being pared down from an overall Disney Afternoon collection). I know a lot of people collect Chip and Dale, but not sure how many focus on Rescue Rangers.

Forgot to add - I also collect Clarabelle Cow and Daisy, but only pins where they are the singular character (so no Clarabelle with Horace or Daisy with Donald). They don't seem to be nearly as popular as the main Fab Five.

Not sure if the fit, but I don't know many people who collect Mary Poppins, The Black Cauldron or Philharmagic pins. I also collect Sword in the Stone, but I've found quite a few who do as well.

I collect pins related to the American Revolution/colonial America. So the characters dressed in 18th century clothes/as founding fathers. It's a small collection but slowly growing. I don't know if its obscure since it could fall under Americana pins but I don't collect any other pins connected to the US/fourth of July/etc.

Here's the thing about not so popular characters - one day they're not so popular, the next day, they've exploded into the 'next big thing.' When I first started collecting pins, my main collection, Cheshire, was like that. Sure, there were the occasional Cheshire (and AIW) pins released - but they didn't even come close to selling out. I think in those days, most Cheshire/AIW pins were just purchased by collectors, with very few extras purchased with the intention to trade.

And it isn't just Cheshire/AIW. If I knew then what I know now ... the pins that just SAT there on DA PINS (that I ignored because I didn't collect those themes) that you can't even touch for less than a car payment ... .

I believe that all of my primary/secondary collections are popular (why do I do this to myself?), but I have picked up a collection of Yzma as a Cat (all of one pin as of the moment) that I think qualifies as a not so popular character. How long she'll remain 'not so popular' is anyone's guess; once Disney decides there's money to be made in a character, they'll flood the market until they drown it (like they've done with Stitch, Haunted Mansion, Tangled, and currently are doing with Frozen).

So many great collections that you guys mentioned!
I collect Black Cauldron, so there aren't that many people who collect that. Still looking for a handful!
I also have some Mr. Toad pins. Just a few, but it's a nice little collection.
I also collect Oswald who was fairly obscure when I started with him but then exploded like dancecats said.

My not so popular will probably always remain not so popular. .. I am currently the two pin completist of Johnny Fedora and Alice Bluebonnnet.. I am almost a completist with Kitchen Kabaret and I collect Elmer the elephant. Most people have never heard of these much less collect them. I also collect Lincoln and Hall of President but only in the likeness of the presidents not characters dressed as presidents.

Lotso is one of my best friend's main collections! Her other collection is Louie - of Huey, Dewey, and Louie. (She only collects the duck in the green shirt!)

Some not-so-popular characters I love:

The Lost Boys, Darlings, Tiger Lily, and the Mermaids (from Peter Pan)
The Dormouse and Dinah (from Alice in Wonderland)
Madam Mim and Merlin (from Sword in the Stone)
Robin Hood and Maid Marian (from Robin Hood)

I'm also starting to collect Lucifer (from Cinderella) and Percy (from Pocahontas) because they resemble my pets. :)

BTW, your hamster is ADORABLE.

Oh, I also collect these not-very-popular themes:

  • Hanukkah and other Jewish holidays
  • Pins featuring characters reading books
  • Pins that remind me of Mary Blair (designer of "It's a Small World;" concept artist for Cinderella, Peter Pan, and Alice in Wonderland)
