Oh, hell no.

How can this even be called a Fantasy Pin when it is a blatant ripoff of the Disney Up Vinylmation figure??? Shouldn't fantasy pins at least be the creator's own idea/artwork???

I saw this the other day. It was actually a regular auction and when I first saw it, it was only at something like $2 or $3, so apparently there was more than one person who wanted it badly enough to get the price that high. Yikes!

Oh wow! I am not exactly sure what to think right now. I am stunned.

You hit the nail right on the head MASTER. The title of this thread sums up my feelings perfectly.

wow. Have you turned the seller in?

And how do you get these fantasy pins made for how much? I think we need to start a new racket....lol

I met the guy who designed this pin and he said he only had 100 made. He was trading them in the parks (had about 10 on his lanyard) and seemed like a pretty chill guy. That was on Sunday, 5/20/12. He even explained how and where you can get fantasy pins made. The pin actually looks really nice in person.

Is this made by the same guy that made the UP mailbox pins? It's really not difficult to get a custom lapel pin made...and I think you can get them for as low as $2.50 each if you only have 100-150 made. However, I would bet that Disney would probably be pretty quick to fire off a C&D order to this person if they are made aware of it.

I think this pin is super cute!!!! and fantasy pin or not - a price is set as to what people will pay for it. Have any sold for that price? if the answer is yes then why wouldnt they sell them for that price? and if no one buys it for that price then I am sure the price will be lowered - but the thing w ebay is that the market does determine the price.

I don't have a problem with people making fantasy pins to sell as long as it actually has a decent design (have Disney's designs been any much better than some of the fantasy pins that have recently surfaced?). The problem I'm having is, with this particular pin, as erudolf stated, is that the design was a blatant rip-off from an original UP vinyl design.

If I were to buy a fantasy pin of my fave Scrooge, I'd want more originality in the design, that's all - and if it does, I'd have no problem buying the pin. After all, don't fantasy pins fall under the realm of "other" Scrooge collectibles? They're not any different from buying a Scrooge plate, Scrooge figurine, Scrooge walking stick...

Personally, I really don't have a problem with fantasy pins, as long as they use their own artwork. What difference does it make of buying a really neat looking fantasy pin that fits my collection from an artist that did a nice job, and takes pride in his work, from buying a really cool oil painting that an artist drew at a swap meet? Like CaliGirl said, ebay drives the value, as with all pins and collectibles. If there are people willing to pay that kind of money for a fantasy pin, who are we to judge?

BUT..... as Bricklayer said. The only problem I'm having with this one is the fact that the artwork is obviously ripped off from a previously existing Vinyl figure. I'm much more of a fan of original artwork than piggy backing off the work someone else did.

+1

Ha! "Oh, hell no!" is right I think for many reasons discussed above.

My main concern would be how well would a fantasy pin hold its value in comparison to an authentic Disney pin no matter what the LE count. Maybe some die-hard Up fans will pay the price today in the heat of the moment, but one year from now ?? Then what?

On a different note ... Ripping Disney's Art work is one wrong thing, but this person was shameless enough to actually trade that pin in the Disney parks under Disney's nose ?? Yeah, what is the world coming to??

I have several Fantasy pins for Alice and Cheshire Cat. The artwork is original and they pins are as nice as DA pins were. But I agree that a Fantasy pin needs to have it's own original artwork and not "stolen" artwork from Disney.

Oh, he'll no was for the winning bid. When the pin was offered on this Forum, I asked to buy for $12 shipped and denied. I thought I was gonna fly under the radar for this pin and get it less than $12. I like this Fantasy pin as I was given the ones Evilos made of inspired Tron-signed by him. Don't get me started on that mailbox! That was just a rude design period.
