The Miyakaki movies are claimed under Disney
so why is there nothing on them at the Disney parks?
Why aren't there Totoro and Haku pins?
Or Teto and Calcifer pins?.?
I would buy them from Disney parks
for sure ヾ(๑╹◡╹)ノ"

I was just saying that very thing to my sister the other day. I want to see a Studio Ghibli land in the Disney Parks! It would be so magical!

It's most likely because Disney has US distribution rights for the movies, but probably not for merchandise. There are Ghibili pins and loads of other merchandise (artwork, plushies, toys, etc.) out there, but they're produced/sold by other companies.

Yep, just because one company distributes a movie doesn't mean they are allowed to do anything else with it. In other countries, Disney films are distributed by other studios too. For example, in Ukraine and Kazakhstan Disney movies are distributed by Sony. But that doesn't mean Sony can start selling Disney stuff.

Studio Ghibli is still its own independent entity, and likely keep most things under their own control. Although, I am happy that some US companies have worked out licensing and retail deals to allow more Studio Ghibli products to be available here.

Yup, it's a distribution issue, not exactly a title ownership. However there's some Totoro stuff at EPCOT in Japan. :D

There's a Ghibli Museum just outside of Tokyo, it's really cool, but it's hard to find interior photos of it (they don't allow them). I completely recommend it, if anyone goes to Tokyo.

I brought back a ton of pins from the museum gift shop, if anyone is interested. I would guess I have between 30-40. They're not as nice as Disney pins (think more the traditional cloisonne style, like the 1990s Disney Store), but there's a few I'm quite fond of. I mostly just grabbed the popular characters (Totoro/Catbus, Kiki/Jiji, Howl/Calcifer, Baron, Porco Rosso).

Miyazaki and Ghibli are SUPER protective of their brand...they have super tight control of the museum, and I've only recently started to see control of the merchandising loosen up (with things like the Hot Topic line). If they were ever to consider a Park, I doubt they would let Disney run it- they would probably run it themselves, and I would be fall-down SHOCKED if it was anywhere but Japan.
