My ultimate grail of grails is the UP el captain Marquee pin........ I hope to own it one day, maybe in my wildest dreams lol!!!! But in the meantime, I know how sought after these pins are.....do any of you own one, and if so what did you have to trade or pay for it? Just out of pure curiosity!.........:wiggle:

I got mine for $100 about 2-3 years ago now think it was early 2010 as I had started October 2009 the week before the UP Grape Soda UK pin was released and I was trying to get it could not find it and I took a swing at it and emailed the only person trading it at the time, and the wants was about 100 to 1 trading and the person replied, said he would sell it as he understands being new and not having good enough traders etc and I offered $100 and he took it and I don't ever regret that lolol.

Took our daughter to the D23 Up All Night event and, as tradition, we purchased the $12.95 Marquee as our souvenir of the evening. At the time we could only afford to purchase the ONE and have spent the last few years trying to trade for all of the other pins from that first release at DSF. Like most, the movie touched our hearts as Great Grandpa is the spittin' image of Carl and he had just lost his beautiful bride of 65+ years shortly after the movie came out. So my daughter decided to add Up to her list of collections and thanks to patience and the kindness of many pin trading friends she is only missing 7 pins to complete it and that first Grape Soda surprise pin is still one of them. But we are thankful that we stuck to our El Capitan tradition that night and purchased her one marquee! Hope we didn't bore you with our story.

I was also at the Up All Night D23 event (got the marquee and event pins) and purchased all of the other Up pins from DSF when they were released a few weeks later.

I'm curious to know how many people on DPF have an Up marquee? I was in your position not too long ago, I WANTED THAT PIN SO BAD!!! I was so crazy about it I figured out where 37 of them were in the world. I was given mine as a zap from Goofy_Moe which was the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me, it's a pin that holds a special place in my heart and it's not going anywhere. The pin mind as well be a LE 149 because I'm never getting rid of mine

We got one of the last few that appeared on ebay years ago. We were the only bidder for $80. That very same day that we won the auction we were at Disneyland, and walked over to the tables by Little Green Men and found a trader who had 6 of them. He pulled them out of his trader book to show them off, and of course we had nothing to trade for them.

$12.95! (+ tax).

:) One of the lucky ones that managed to buy it in the store...

I met rik1138 when he first started collecting Marquees. Back when you could just walk into the store and walk up to the counter and even a day or two later for the newest Marquee released. Since he worked upstairs, he told me his story of taking his lunch in the soda fountain and saw the Marquees. That was going to be his Theme because they were readily available on the Fridays the movies came out. In the early days of his collection, I think I traded him about 6 Marquees. I remember because I gave him the 9-pocket sheet I had them on. I traded him for the newly released Surprise pins that came out that I collected. I think it was a 1:1 trade?

Later when I really needed this pin, I remembered he had 1 and hoped he had bought 2? I remembered at our first trade, I told him to always buy 2 pins if they were LE 150. They make good traders.

I still thank rik1138 for going to his storage (it took him 1 week to actually go to the storage and wondered why he had it in storage) to find his extra one to trade me.
It cost me $25.90 in trade ($10.95) & ($14.95). It was also when there was 1 trader and 90 wanting and the value was about $100? At the time it was an = trade but my two were the "HOT" pins of the week.

Thank you Rik1138 the best $25.90 I have ever spent on pins.

I am trying and working on my second one and working on buying one also (3rd)? These two holders of the UP Marquee are old Dizpins members that do not trade anymore. Ill let this thread know if I work magic.

Haha, yeah, I remember that... Actually being able to go back into the store and buy a second one... They don't really allow that anymore (not sure if it was ever officially allowed, but they didn't sell out the entire 150 at once, so I asked if I could get two...) It either sold out that night, or very early the next morning.
(Wait, just remembered, they sold these a day early for some reason, I think someone said it was a D23 screening? I just got in line to buy pins... :) I never got the surprise pin because they didn't release that until the next day if I remember correctly, and all the Marquees were already gone (as was the surprise) by they time I found out and went back to the store... Trying to remember all of that... That was my first experience with a line for pins, and pins selling out fast...)

I forget why I had them all in storage at that time, I think I was trying to reduce the amount of stuff laying around the house, so anything 'non critical' went to storage. :) I still have the Up bottle cap, but I eventually bailed on the Piece of Disney collection and sold them all off...

Marquees and Beloved Tales.... That's what I'm going to try to limit myself to... (Which, of course, I used to say just about Marquees... :) )

That is my exact philosophy. When i started marquees in May of last year I told myself "marquees and marquees only" and i have an almost complete set in less than a year of collecting them

I've dreamed about this pin at night while I'm sleeping.[/QUO

yes, I know that feeling Joey ...... I know I'm sad lol!!! I hope one day to own this pin, but have yet to find anyone who will trade it, I can't blame Thomas it's such a nice pin.....love reading the stories guys, keep them coming, it gives me a little glimmer of hope!!!!! Being way over here in Merida country, I wish I lived near a pin trading place or even a store that sells pins.....I rely solely online for all my trades :(
