Pin Pics trading: Do you use it anymore?
I use pinpics for trades all the time and try to be fair. Still don't get replies. I've met some great people on there too.

I like pinpics to look up my pins, check their rarity and "value" and whatnot... I have traded a few times through them... However, since joining this forum, I've traded less and less through pinpics. Trading through the forum just seems safer to me.

Sent you a pm about a possible trade.

I guess I just don't know enough about trading on here, so I use pinpics. No, I don't know the owners of the site but don't feel I need to - they've provided an amazing resource and tool that we can all use for free; those who complain about it have no right unless they're paying a subscription fee IMHO. It brings people together from all around the world and helps us all fill our want lists.

I find that trading in person generally yields people who overvalue their pins to a point where it's laughable. I've met some really nice people but have also met the sharks.

I also don't know anything about how to build my own references - should probably look into that!

I am newer to the forum. How does trading work here!?

First you will want to link your pinpics to your profile info. you can do that in settings and/or profile editor someplace. Can someone tell her how to do that please?

you can look at the things people here have for trade/wants, and send them PM's asking if they want to trade.
you can bid in the trade auction house.
you can post wanted or for trade threads on trade forum.
you can also hang out in chat and when the talk actually stays on pins as a topic I have seen trades get set up.

I like both of these ideas, especially #1--would save so much time! Along the same lines, I have often wished that we could search within someone's trades by keyword (i.e "Alice" "stained glass" etc). Would really help when working out trades, and trying to look for other possible matches. Especially when the other person has 15 pages of trades! (drool...:drool

This is very minor, and would just help me with keeping track of trades, but I wish there was a "pending" (for lack of a better term) category that I could move my pins into once I've agreed to a trade but am waiting for them to arrive. It could be visible only to the person on their PP page, but would be a place to move pins out of trades or wants while waiting. I am always answering "sorry, I have a pending trade for that pin" and feel bad for that. But if I take it off my list too soon, either I forget about it or have to find it again when it arrives. Again, minor tweak and just for my own bookkeeping, but I would love that aid to my failing memory! LOL

Thank you!

I updated the OP can i please get some idea's of what you would like to see in your dream pin database?

To add to my previous post... I know I overused "standardize" but really, standardizing the input method on pinpics would help a lot. I'm not sure it's wise to just allow anyone to update the database. Maybe a team of 10-20 people could be given that task as new pins are released? I dunno. I'm not saying there's a right way or a wrong way to enter new pins, I'm just pushing for a standardized input method.

Just recently I noticed some varying results if you search for the DSF PTD pins:

Under "Pin Groups" (just under "search" on pinpics), 98 pins are in the "DSF - Pin Traders Delight Sundae GWP pins" group.

And if you go to the search page and type in "trader's delight" in the search box, 105 pins come up.

However, if you perform the same search but this time, you check the "Disney Soda Fountain" box in the search options, 104 pins come up.

And then there's a whole bunch of varying results if you just enter "PTD" instead of "Trader's Delight."

So along the way, pins have been entered correctly, incorrectly, and somewhere inbetween. If someone is using the database to update their wants, you have to perform various results to find all the pins you don't even know exist.

Oh, and new search options such as "include" and "exlude" would be excellent. So if you want to search for Maleficent pins without "Aurora" and "Briar Rose" OR search for Sleeping Beauty pins with only "Maleficent"... options to include and exclude would be great.

Not sure if it would be relevent- but having a mobile app that could tie in with the online database would be pretty handy too! Especially for people who do a lot of trading in the parks and places where it would be handy to have a quick reference of pins they already have/want and can also easily look at edition sizes and number of wants and traders and compare pins before actually making any trades.

My biggest "want" for pinpics is to weed out those who do not use it. Not only would it save us time in trying to trade with people who are no longer trading/using pinpics but it would also provide a more true demand for a pin.

Can you imagine what cleaning out non users would/could do to the pin trading selling/buying market!?!

Say pinpics went through and removed all members who have not touched pinpics in more than a year. This would have a major affect on the want/trade numbers. This clean up could potentially devalue many pins overnight! Resale pin prices could drop when realized that the pin is not as "hot" as a seller thinks.

I have used pin pics trade assistant since April 2004. It is my main way to trade. I also use it as my pin repository & database

I love the pending idea - I keep the pin pages open in a tab when I agree to a trade, then change the status when it arrives / I send it. Pending would be so much easier.

a small nit to pick - but put the keyword search at the top of the page (and only have 1 search page) it would make it easier to search

How would you want the returns? Right now it defaults to pinpic number - not very useful. Maybe have the results organized by closest match?

I still use it for trading, but it's rare that happens anymore. I get very few requests and send out even fewer due to lack of positive responses anymore.
