Pin trading has its ups and downs, and sharing our frustrations and finding support are crucial parts of the hobby. But I thought it might be nice to have a specific place where we share just the awesome aspects, a place where we can go and remind ourselves why we pursue these little pieces of metal.

I'll start with something small--two specific pins I am super-pumped about. First off, I love the Mulan pin that is coming out in Paris in May:



The design is beautiful; I love the unusual shape and the simple background contrasted with the detailed figures. And I love that we finally get another pin with Mulan and her mom. Obviously her relationship with her father is an integral part of the story, but as Mulan is one of the only Disney characters with two living parents, I love seeing both of them get some attention.

I also just got this pin in the mail (not my photo--I'm using Li's from Pin Trading DB):



Ever since this PTD came out, I have loved it. I don't know why this one in particular spoke to me, but it did. And now that I have it in person, I love it even more. She is just so little and cute, and the one I received is flawless. Buying this pin was my birthday present, and I couldn't be happier.
 
My pin positivity is that for the first day in forever, I can focus on pins and not much else, and I don't have to feel like I should be doing something else. I just got home from FL, last night after being home for only one week out of the last 3 months, because of everything with my Mom. I have 18 pins that were delivered over the last month since I've been away, and they are so pretty. I really want to get back into just trading and buying when I see something I like, having an updated signature... it's been so long. But, the Mulan pin makes me kinda sad. Mulan was my Mom's primary Disney collection, and she would have loved it, but they didn't do Mulan Mother's Day before now.
 

The first Mother's Day without your mom is the hardest. They do get easier, but it takes time. :hug:

As a defense mechanism against Mother's Day, I started mentally (okay sometimes out loud) making "yermom" jokes at the Mother's Day ads.

Radio ad: "We've got something your mom will love!"
Me: "Yeah, well I've got something YOUR mom will love..."

(Okay it's kinda crass but it makes me laugh and that helps.)

(Note: Also works on Father's Day. "We've got something your dad will love!" "Yeah, well I've got something your MOM will love...")
 
I love the idea of pin positivity. So here's mine:

I went to the last Pin Trading Night at WDW early this month. I was asking directions to the correct ball room from a cast member with my jumbo suitcase full of pins. She asked to see some of my pins, so I opened up the bag with the LE 2000-open edition (i.e., the least valuable bag) and showed several of them to her. She absolutely fell in love with a Stitch pin from Hollywood Studios and asked if I would take her entire lanyard in exchange for that pin. (Of course I know that could get her into serious trouble). So, I took the pin out of the bag and handed to her and said, "This pin is for you, not for your lanyard." (I meant 'not to go on your lanyard' but I guess you could interpret it as 'Keep your lanyard' which is also what I meant.) She was so happy and pocketed the pin.

Then she gave me directions to the ball room and I waited for the event to start. My wants list is pretty small (only 35 at the time). But I was able to trade for 3 pins off my wants list, and a couple of pins that I never put on my list but really wanted anyway. I kind of feel like the reason the pin gods smiled on me that night was my kindness to the cast member. Who knows, I might have created another pin fanatic, and you know how the pin gods love that...
 
My updated pin positivity...I bought 11 pins today...husband is not quite sure how positive that is, because it's quite negative for the bank account, lol. But he understands.

Once in a while, you just gotta say, "This made me happy, and it's only money." And the great thing about pins is that if you change your mind, you always have the option to trade or sell to get something else you want!

I love rewarding excellent cast members with good pins. They are so used to getting scrappers and blah pins that they are so happy when you actually give them a nice pin, even if it gets scooped up by someone else soon thereafter. I have occasionally hinted that my good pin was intended for them as a thank you gift, but I'm not sure if they are allowed to accept them as gifts and I don't know if any actually have kept them.
 
As long as you didn't trade them a pin off their lanyard for the gift, then they shouldn't have to put it on their lanyard and they should be able to keep it. I hope!
 
Sometimes you get outbid on a pin at the last second. Sometimes, right after, your friend reminds you of his charity walk on behalf of his nephew with cystic fibrosis. Sometimes you give him the money instead. And sometimes it feels like that's how it was meant to be.

 

This just happened to me last night! Well, the outbidding thing. It happened on five pins I had my eyes on for about a week. But, as I kept searching I found a lovely pin for a great price, and it was from a lady who was selling part of her collection in order for her son to go to law school. So I ended up buying that pin and a couple of traders from her as well! I wouldn't have been able to otherwise if I had won those auctions. Yay Pin Positivity! :rock:
 
I'm bringing positivity back!

I got zapped a whole bunch in the past year, and I filled up my Mulan board. Woo!

And someday this year, we're going to get an awesome reveal/conceal set!

I'm excited for the reveal/conceal set too! Hope I can get my hands on a few boxes, when they come out. If not, I'll be looking to trade for at least the Belle I'm looking forward to this year's Villaintine's mystery set as well.
