Pin Prices Dropping??

Has anybody else noticed the decrease in DSF pin values lately?

While many are still being offered on auction sites at very high prices, it appears that none are selling. Even Beloved Tales values seem to be dropping. Maybe it is because so many resellers have jumped into the arena, and so many are being flipped causing an increase insupply, or maybe people are just over paying outrageous prices. Has anybody else noticed this?

my theory is that right now, the prices are dropping a bit because folks are to busy paying for summer vacations to buy more pins.

However, maybe folks are just not happy with the most recent releases?

Edit/add:

with the DSF wristband and random draw, fewer presales are occuring. presales as a trend, have been slightly higher than the sales of those pins in hand 2-3 days after a release. So with the lack of presale "Oh my gosh get it while you can" mentality, there may be an overall drop in average sale price.

Also, with the randomized draw, more people who were not willing to camp out are going to the releases for the off chance they can get a set themselves instead of buying from a friend or ebay. Which means all sorts of different things. The dynamics of DSF resales are changing and it will be a couple more months of this random draw routine before we can really truely say how it is effecting prices and values.

I acutally think the new random wristband thing has made it possible for more resellers. They are just anonymous newbs not the old power resellers we were used to. That is why the prices are going down. More people bring more friends and more pins are sold. The way it was before there were more collectors/traders getting the pins and a few resellers. That benefitted the market because the collectors/traders kept their 2 for their collections or trade books and the resellers could make the price high and sell it fairly easy.

Now that there are a ton of newbs mostly in it for profit, once they get the pins they put em straight on eBay. To compete and sell theirs quick, they lower and lower and lower their price till they sell. Also, the pin designs and quality haven't been the best lately. Soda Bottles, Baseball, Monsters Inc, Alice train, Gumball machines, Jessica Calendars, Oz posters, Lady & the Tramp train, Trophy series, Circus Posters, etc. Even crazy characters like Carl, Rapunzel, Russell can't save those pins. The rare few gems make it to see prices over $35 but the rest don't really deserve anything over double. And that's all DSF pins used to sell for was double. You were lucky to get your one paid for by selling the other. Now everyone wants like 5x or more the retail price. For half-@ssed pins. Please.

How about not calling people "newbs". Everyone was a new into pins at some point. The way you are using it sounds very derogatory and incredibly disrespectful.

I have noticed that trend as of late too. I think it's a mix of the fact that people in CA are now actually attending the releases and that means less competition online when it comes to presales. With that less competition, the sellers have to lower their prices to sell to a smaller group, so it's a mix of everything stated above. That or what's "in" isn't so in anymore. Maybe it's just me, but I find that recent Tangled pins have been selling much lower than older Tangled pins and I'm waiting to see if older Tangled pins might slowly start decreasing. Sure they won't ever go below $100 (like high wanted Stitch, Jess, and Tink pins are still fairly expensive) but they will go down in price a bit.

I'm all for a drop in pin prices. Right now there seems to be a calm in the pin world. It's pretty nice, especially on my wallet.

Oh. My name is Alex, and I was once a "newb."

LOL, I'm still a Newbie, been in this hobby for about a year now. Just like Alex I am all for pin prices going down, allows for more collectors out of California to acquire and that is always a good thing.

I agree^ Everything has definitely calmed down. For now...:suspect: and I am happy about that. I feel like that puts the sharks at bay, and that is a good thing. I also agree with what was said about the DSF pin designs. Some of them are just so... meh.

I agree. Perceived attitudes like that make newcomers to a hobby feel ostracized.

The people I refer to are not part of the hobby. They just come because someone told them to and sell their pins. Actually attending a release is more enlightening than reading an online forum.

at what point do we become "experienced" and no longer new? lol

back to the topic.

all points above. I hope things level out a bit, and that the last 8 months was a random severe upswing. Perhaps prices across the board for pins will level out? Perhaps the bubble finally popped? ((much like the housing market?))

So people who don't live near any Disney areas and are unable to attend a release are not "enlightened"?

Gee I guess I live in the Dark Ages then, because I've been trading for 4 years but I've never attended a release.

Wow, everyone's all uptight. If you have been going to DSF releases for a while and have seen how it has changed, yeah, the newbs suck. Oh, I used it again, newb. Shock, horror. Not like I'm Paula Dean or throwing the "R" word around here. There are so many faces that are new. They don't collect pins. They don't know the difference between Kevin and Russel. They just come to consume and regurgitate our hobby.
I didn't call you (wise one) a newb. You may not be new to the hobby.
If you (generic you) are new at DSF and you've found yourself here, welcome. You're now part of the hobby. Save some DSF pins to trade! Selling ain't always the way to go.

I now direct you to the red font in my signature. (If your on a mobile device, check your computer.)

I was just thinking that pin prices seem to be dropping - I hadn't noticed that it was specifically DSF pins until I saw this thread. I don't live in CA so I have to rely on the resellers for the pins I want so I watch a lot of pins on a certain auction site just to see what they are going for. I'm still new but my little thought is that I think everyone is just taking a deep breath. Maybe we all just spent our money in the crazyness that seems to have become DSF and our wallets are tired. (I don't know. Just typing out loud, I guess.) I like that things seem to be settling a little bit.

*is currently eating some mint chip ice cream and seriously considers offering some to everyone.*

I actually see what mark is saying, the last few DSf releases have a lot of new faces that sometimes dont even know what pins they are getting. I tend to chat with lots of people while there, and I noticed that many new faces are even saying, flat out point blank, "I am only here to help a friend out" or "I am an extra body for insert resellers name here"

however i am also seeing a LOT more familiar faces who had previously avoided dsf releases. and they are all saying the same thing as me, "Random drawings make it possible for me to have a chance at a set."

I do not think Mark was implying that non-locals are un-enlightened or dumb. He was simply stating that attending these releases can be an education in what is happening in the hobby. It certainly opened my eyes to a few less savory facts of the pin world. As well as taught me a LOT of neat stuff too. I do NOT think I am any more educated, enlightened, or "pin wise" that someone living in North Dakota who does pin trading. However I do think that having the opportunity to attend these releases has taught me stuff.

My thoughts on the DSF pricing have been stated previously. It seems to be a combination of the bubble popping, summer vacations, greater numbers of different people getting the pins, some kind of crappy releases, and empty wallets.

Mmm mint chip! I miss PTD's. haven't had ice cream since late May.

This might be blunt, but the pins being released do not warrant excessive prices. Wait till the next BT release.. Then we'll see if the prices have truly dropped.

newbie... newbie... newbie.... lol

don't even start talking about reselling Mark. I am already so upset. I have bills to pay and dsf is not helping me. lol

I hope the PTDs last until the pin event on Saturday. That's my next scheduled trip to DSF and who knows when I'll be back again
