Pin Trading tables at Downtown Disney...?

One question, Why they don’t return the Pin Trading tables at Downtown Disney...?
I remember the Pin Trading tables in front of Pin Trader’s at Downtown Disney, it was great, we trade, we speak, and we spend hourswith other traders from all over the world...!
Also a beautiful place whit everything around... parking, shops, restaurants, etc....
I don’t really understand why…?
Someone told me about one guy who sale pin’s…?
Yes, but they have security, they can’t do something, no…?

The manager of DTD in WDW decided that the tables were more trouble than they were worth. This decission did not come from the pin trading team. They had to have a security guard and manager available at all times because of the complaining and arguing over tables. Lots off complaints from tourists also. Not all justified but complaints just the same.
Their was a core group of "Traders" that made a living trading with tourists.
 
Ok, but hard to understand, and just because few "sharks" do that, all the others real traders can't do anymore trade at Downtown Disney, it's a shame.....!!!
Here in France, things are different, we have tables in two locations in the park and we have no problem, we trade, sometimes we ask to people to buy pin's in shop and come to trade with us when they have nothing...
And when you sale, you have the security ask you to leave the park or Disney property if it's not in the park, like hotels, shops, etc......!!! Simple.... no...?

I think it had more to do with the appearance than the sharks. It became somewhat of an eyesore. The marketplace is a nice, quaint atmosphere, and then when you got to the pin trading area it looked more like a flea market. Too many people with suitcases and totes of pins and some people weren't very presentable themselves (i.e. looked like they just rolled out of bed and didn't even bother to change before going to pin trade).
 
Never ceases to amaze me how a few idiot sharks can ruin it for everyone. I do however understand the apperances issue. DLR doesnt have tables in DTD either. I couldn't imagine some of our less um... clean, traders sitting at tables with binders and books over flowing on the table. I really do wish they enforced the one book per person rule a bit better. However, if apperance is the issue, they need to do something about the vinylmation traders that just set up on the cement seating at DTD. It really does look like a swapmeet there.
 
Appearances (and odor) could have a lot to do with it. I've run into more than a few traders who needed a good bath and probably some additional personal grooming. All that in addition to pressure tactics and general pushiness/sharkiness.

My first experience (one of few) I had at DTD was a mix. Most people were OK. One older lady was really something. Every pin in her book was worth $50 on ebay. So she wanted like 5 new LE pins for one of hers. At the time there were some cool mystery pins on sale. There was a boy of 12 or so who desperately wanted the two chaser pins from the mystery set. They were very low LE and worth a good bit. The older lady also wanted them badly but kept insisting her pins were worth so much and the chaser mystery pins were only worth a few dollars. I traded both LE mystery chasers to the 12 year old boy in exchange for a few hidden mickeys. He and his mom were overwhelmed. I was happy to make his week (they were getting ready to leave and he really wanted to complete the set). And the old lady? I gave her a nice smile.

I hate that the tables are gone but it was apparent that Disney wasn't willing to police it any other way any longer. I'd rather have seen some rule enforcement and maybe some limits on how many books you could bring, how many days a week you could trade, etc. But I guess they looked at all that and decided it was not worth while.

I do remember the tables being at DTD after they started to hold people to one book. One guy there kept a bunch of books in his car and kept photos of each page on the table so that he could still trade a lot more pins. So, presumably Disney tried that step and people circumvented it pretty quickly.

I think that's the same lady who now frequents the tables at Epcot. Every time I see her, it just makes me so angry that it's people like her, scamming those who aren't as savvy as we are, into buying a bunch of LE's for some Hidden Mickey's.

One of my last « experience » at DTD, was also a mix, of different feelings, most were with no problem, but i remember one guy, (with beard...), i think is name was Patrick… or something like that, with i don’t remember how many pin bags, four tables, etc….
He try to trade with me, but i stop immediately trade, because all of his pin’s was with amazing price…!
I see his trade with other people and was also amazing, he trade two or three pin's for one, etc… ask also to go in the shop and buy two limited for one of his pin’s, he also trade some French pin’s like the “esso”, for information, this pin’s cost nothing, zero, nada….!!!
We also have the same “problem”, here in France...!
Some pin sharks refer to EBay prices for giving one idea when they trade, that completely crazy, (when you put on sale at 100$, does not min you sale at 100$...!)
I hear also a story of one French guy in America, who trade French Pin trading Night for two or three jumbo, (i think i know him...!!!!), it’s crazy, but don’t hesitate if you want to have a“value”, to contact me...!
I’m not a "professional", but i know...!!!! LOL...
I hate that the tables are gone, but i can understand, (hard to say that....!!!!).
I really do wish they enforced the one book "rules" per person, if they turnback the tables at DTD…!
I cross my fingers to see tables in august, because I come in Florida for two weeks...!
It's really sad that a few people ruin everyone's fun.... Snifffff....!!!!!!

orry wont be there in July I wont pay bastille day prices for accomodation I never understand why they pick that weekend probably wont be back now till christmas

I miss the tables at DTD. It was a place that people with out traders could go and get older pins from people who had them and didn't mind going into the store and picking up a pin or two that you needed. Maybe I was the exception but I usually traded one for one. Unless it was a jumbo or low LE then maybe a little more and we had fun.

As for people not grooming themselves to perfection, it's not just pin traders or vinyl traders. If you go into ANY theme park it's like a trip to Wal-mart. So, don't be a snob and don't judge. I'm not making excuses of why people don't bathe, I just worry about myself.
 
I don't think it was a "few" that ruined it for everyone else. Over time I think there were A LOT of people that ruined it. I have been trading for over 10 years and I have see a lot of crazy behavior from way too many people. Any questions about this and all you have to do is go to a pin trading night. Yes, there are many good people pin trading, but it doesn't take much for even the best of us to show our worst side.
