When did you first start Pin Trading? I know for me it was the first time I went to Disneyland and it was for the 50th anniversary so it was a pretty neat experience and I haven't stopped since.

Thanks,

Corvyn

Started in 2010, the day the San Francisco Giants beat the Padres and clinched the NL west en route to their first world series in 52 years. That day, my girlfriend family who was with us bought me the generic Sf giants pin they sale in the park to commemorate and the rest is history!

hello all ! I just started pin trading and collecting in last august (2013). When i visited disneyland paris. My collection is very humble. Only 7 pins and the Aladdin pin set will arrive soon 4 new pins added.

Technically I believe it was almost two years ago, wow (2011ish). Didn't even realize. However, I only recently got truly involved and started really building my collection.

I think it was at the end of 2009. A friend got a couple pins and my mom asked if I wanted some and I was like "no, i dont want to get into that, Its silly and a waste of money." But I watched her go up to cast members and trade pins and I would go up and look too and would see all the cool pins (there seemed to be way cooler pins on cast lanyards back then) and then before the next trip I was like "I NEED PINS! I NEED TO PIN TRADE!!!" And then I was hooked....

I had purchased a few pins here and there for a while, mostly as souvenirs. I didn't intend to ever get into straight-up pin collecting (and even poked some gentle, loving fun at "geek collars" aka: lanyards). But during our last trip to Disneyland in May 2012, I saw SO MANY people with lanyards and was struck by the sense of community and identification they provided. I also managed to trade off a pin, which is the only trade I've ever done (it was a Nightmare Before Christmas pin for one of Stitch riding the Astro-Oribtor). After that I decided to take it seriously :)

Like Allie, I also have a humble collection. I'm not out to get all the pins, just the handful of ones I like in my little niche. On that Disneyland trip, I had affixed my pins to my shoulder bag. By next trip, I'll probably be decked out in one of those geek collars :)

On my birthday! Not the one last year, but the year before.

I went to Disneyland sometime in April, with a friend who was visiting from upstate. Since I was planning on going to the park again in May for my birthday, I went ahead and bought my first annual pass. While I was at the park I noticed pins and lanyards for the first time, and got very interested.

I went home, signed onto eBay and bought myself one of them cheap pin lots (stupid, stupid). I also got a lanyard from the dollar store, and by the time my birthday rolled around, I was ready. I traded off and on with cast members all day long, and had a great time finding Chip & Dale... I even got lucky and found a Figaro pin on the wheel at Westward Ho! (Which I still have proudly displayed on my Figaro board.)

Of course, it wasn't until a few weeks later, when I discovered this forum, that I realized that most of of the pins I bought - and most of the pins I traded for - were "scrappers."

Oh well. Lesson learned! I am so thankful now that instead of getting discouraged and walking away from the hobby, I stuck with it. I would have missed out on SO MUCH FUN!
