I was just looking on Ebay for something and came across the Maleficent boxed Diva pin (Pin 2939 Maleficent Boxed Diva Event Gift) under the sold items. It sold for $130...I couldn't believe it! That pin used to go for over $700 several years back. It just goes to show how quickly Disney pins go down in price so remember, if your doing this as an investment then your collecting the wrong items. All of us idiots are into it because we seem to like these stupid little pieces of metal...lol.

I will stick with my $2 traders and sale pins from various traders. I could never spend that much on any sort of collectable or item!

If it were me I would probably pay the extra $5 for a pin that I really wanted. I'm cheap but not that cheap....lol JK

I've spent far too much on pins that have dropped in price after I'd bought mine far too often .
That being said the most I've ever spent on a single pin is £60 , Designer Cinderella & Jessica Rabbit PTN Jumbo . I never understood the BT prices , admittedly some look nice but not so nice I'd trade in a 4* Holiday for one :lol:

My father collected stamps and first day covers for a LOOOOONG time. Had some pretty cool stuff too. I never got into the hobby and now that he is retired, downsizing and moving to Florida he tried to sell his collection ... no joy! The stamps were worth face value or LESS! I have been accused of being a bit to pollyanna-ish but this collection I just do not see going in that direction. With stamps, the only collectors are like my dad ... old and retired. Pins seems to not suffer from the problem of a strictly older collector base. New collectors always seem to be coming into the fold (myself included) and seem to want a few older thing in their collections (my daughter and I included). This collection is for both my daughter and I, however, I do not trade for anything, or really buy anything that does not get approval from her first. Do I think we will be sitting on a financial gold mine when she is starting college and I need the funds ... nope. However, it really is something fun to do with her, and for her. Hopefully, she will still enjoy Disney and pins in 20-30 years and at that point she can be in charge of the collection we started together.

I've been shocked at the number of HTF Frozen pins that I never thought I would own, that have fallen into my price range ($50ish or less). I ran out of money, before I ran out of options. It seems like a buyers market, as a lot of people are getting out of Frozen. I'm not seeing quite the intensity, in any theme, except maybe Cats(?) as there was a few short years ago with Tangled, Frozen, Princesses, PTDs etc. They are still popular, but it doesn't seem like there are multiple themes where collectors are in a near panic state about new releases. Are Fantasy Pins having that much of an impact? Am I just looking in the wrong place (I'm on some FB groups, but there are so many).

I'm seeing exactly what you are. No really "hot" themes and the formerly hot things slowing way down.

Yep all good advice ... and if only I had a crystal ball I could have gotten some of my (now) most wanted pins, lol!! But isn't that always the way? :lol: I've always liked Disney Kitties but now they are off the chart crazy! I've been all over the map with what I collect ... AND I LIKE IT!! So when people ask me what I collect, I usually say something like it would be easier to tell you what I don't collect. :rofl:

For me collecting and trading Disney pins is a social outlet and I've met some of the BEST people through Disney Pin Trading!! (And then there's that feeding the "Pin Fairy Godmother" thing ... this is absolutely perfect for that!! :rock:

Yeah, this has become apparent to me too lately. I've been selling some traders/doubles from my collection off and on, and I must say that things have been going for much less than what they were a couple of years ago. Kind of wish I didn't hold onto some things as long as I have, but oh well. You never know how things will go. Only reason I'm even selling anything is to make extra money to feel less guilty buying... more pins... haha!

That's been my biggest reasons for starting to collect is the trading and social aspect. It's a lot of fun. I really enjoy packing up my little mailers and throwing extra goodies in there. My FB feed is CLUTTERED with pin related posts from the few groups I joined.

Yes, I would love $50 plus pins for my collection but NO, I can't and won't spend that on one pin.

I really hope pins don't lose their value; I justify spending so much on them as being an investment of sorts! The most I have ever spent is $90 on the Rapunzel thrill ride WDI and $75 on the recent Rapunzel WDI couples dancing release, as I didn't think it would get much lower. I had tried for months to trade for the Incredibles BT but was forced to buy in the end. I will only buy if 1. It is an excellent price or 2. If it's rare and I have no chance of trading for it.

I am a Frozen collector and have noticed the fall in prices of Frozen pins. I also collect Rapunzel and hope that her value doesn't fall too much in the future. My Ratatouille collection and my Incredibles collection haven't cost me nearly so much thankfully but I don't think these pins are particularly as valuable or secure as princess pins.

I do wonder what will happen to pin values in the future. The recent movies haven't made much of an impact on the pin scene I suppose.

Pins absolutely will lose their value just like any other mass-produced "collectible" (plates, beanies, vinyls, and tsums in a year or two once people have moved onto Lego minifigs or whatever the next fad is). Most already have. Pins that used to be worth hundreds aren't. Pins that used to be dearly desired nobody wants anymore. So many fakes have been circulated there's no way to account for authenticity and that's destroyed values, too. I would never sell my collection but even if I did, I wouldn't get half the money back that I put into it. And I paid retail for a large amount of them. A small amount are still worth what I paid for them. A tiny amount are worth more. But that too shall pass.

People have flipped pins while they're hot, but that's a fad. Pins are not and never have been an investment.

Pins are actually a complete waste of money. Unless you buy them understanding this because you love them and they make you smile even if they're financially worthless and in ten years (or less), you wouldn't be able to give them away or sell them for pennies.

Buy pins because you like them and you don't mind throwing the money away. There is no other reason.

Yep! This is the best advice!! Pins aren't an investment tool ... unless you've got a sixth sense about what will be hot and when it will be hot, you are most likely in the same boat as the rest of us, :lol: No worries though if you collect them for fun and because they are sooooo cool!!! :bowdown: I know I'm a pin addict and I like it that way!! :rofl:
