Pins on Original Card Backing
So basically what you are saying is EBay and other traders are never 100% and you could still end up getting screwed in the end even after checking pretty much everything?
Correct. Which is why you should only get pins direct from the source to guarantee authenticity. Anything else is a gamble based on your level of trust in a third party.

So that even goes for making trades on here? I suppose you never know. The person you are dealing with on here may be perfectly legit but what if that person got there Pin from another source other than Disney and so on. This could be a very tricky hobby to trust others. I was planning on trading on here when I started building my collection but now I am thinking otherwise and just using the Disney Store directly or the Shop Disney Parks app.

Here people develop a feedback score that expresses satisfactory or unsatisfactory trades. But with everything not directly from Disney there is a risk. It's up to you how much you educate yourself on pins before you opt to take that risk.

But in any trade you should never feel bad about asking where a pin came from. That's always a good start.

That is the thing unless the person purchased it directly themselves from Disney they don't really know 100% either. If they made a trade for the Pin and that could have even been traded farther down the line. So really unless you are trading with someone who says they directly bought the pin fromDisneyand they have good feedback you really don't know.

As for myself I certainly will have to do more thinking on this because what I thought coming into this as a simple little hobby for fun something for my kids latercould be something I could be getting ripped off on several times and I don't have the money for that at all. Thank you for your information.

If you start worrying about "but if this person traded with person A, and then A traded with B, then B with C..." you're going to start making yourself rather miserable. There are plenty of reputable traders out there, and if you need references most people are happy to provide them. Like, personally, if you asked me for a reference, I could turn you to AvatarAng, Ksnuggles, Merlin, Haunted... etc, etc, etc.

If it's just a hobby, treat it as such. If you really decide you cannot trust people because of the possibility of scrappers or counterfeits, then just don't trade. Buy straight from the source, which is just fine.

In the end, the hobby is what you make of it. Just have fun with it!

It is going to be a hobby or at least I thought so. Some of these remarks although very helpful have scared me a bit. I don't have a ton of money and don't want to get ripped off in any way. That would really put a sour taste in my mouth on the whole thing. I know people on here are being honest about what to look out for but I really wasn't expecting to have to deal with all of that just to have a little fun picking up some Disney pins.

Not many people have a ton of money.

Again, if you're that worried.. do it straight from the source. It can still be fun to collect the pins without trading them.

Merlin and Shelterkat both have pick up threads, one for WDW and one for DLR. You can have them pick up a pin or two for you here and there. They'll be straight from Disney itself, and you wouldn't have to worry about counterfeits. No rip offs there.

Thank You. That does sound like a good idea.

Sorry. Don't want to scare you. I want you to get as much education as you can a reduce the risk you have of any thing. Our family is more collectors and not traders. But when we do trade it is with members here or face to face at parks.
do not be worried about everything. Just take it slow and let the Disney magic happen.
