Ok....so as some of you may know but I am at Disneyland this week. I was in the frointerland pin shop just browsing to see what pins they had. As I was in line with my husband I noticed there was a guy who was in his late 20's\30's. Anyways I noticed he was trading with a cast memeber and he had scrapper pins!! I was sooo upset to see him trade for the good for his scrappers off the cast memeber. As I noticed he was trading I was behind him and started talking somewhat loud enough hoping the guy would hear me and I told mu husband " I can't believe the guy is trading scrappers pins to the cast member. He got some nerves!! I repeated myself a few times and eventually the person looks at me and gave me a dirty look and said to me " I better not open my mouth to the cast member about the pons being fake and to mind my own damn business". I was sooooooo and still am aggravated with him!!!! Ugh!!!! I'm sorry to vent over this but it really really posses me off and makes me so angry!!!! > : (
 
Some people are oblivious that they have scrappers. Some aren't. This guy wasn't, and he's a jerk... he's what's wrong with pin trading, and I wish Disney would do something about it.
 
You are right to be upset, since this seemed to be going on with the trader's knowledge, instead of say a rookie mistake where the person bought pins without realizing what scrappers were, etc. The guy should be lucky you did not say anything, as what would he have done if you did?
 
truly the only thing disney could do, and i don't know if they care enough about trading (vs.selling) to pay a CM to do this...but they can eliminate CM trading all together and set up a place in each park, that is pin trading, with a learned CM who would be incharge of the "board or lanyards" and would dispose of scrappers and monitor or look at pins and refuse scrappers. This would be a mojor change and i doubt they would do it OR how bout STOP PRODUCING IN CHINA, and use a US company that would properly oversee the destruction of the molds!!! Hey there is a thought. I think, over all, they cant be losing $ on the scrappers or they would do something. They make the bulk of their money selling the pins in the stores, tickets to the parks and FOOD AND TRINKETS. Alas, scrappers, the bain of our hobby.

All Disney has to do is pressure eBay to remove sellers that are selling scrappers. If I can identify 10-15 sellers in about 3 minutes who are selling scrappers, Disney should be able to do the same.
 
I have been in pin trading a REALLY long time... This is not the only bad thing that I have seen.  Pin trading is not what it used to be.  There are too many people doing illegal things. This is one of the main reasons that I got out.

It's not as easy as you think it would be. It takes time to remove accounts, and then the bad sellers just switch over to new accounts.

If counterfeiting was easy to stop, we wouldn't have knock-off Gucci purses to still deal with.

That's not to say they shouldn't try, of course...but it's really not as easy as you would think it is- it's a long and difficult battle.
 
Too bad you didn't switch your cell phone on to record that little nugget- it would have been wonderful to play for the cast members. :)

Do you have experience getting sellers accounts revoked on eBay? Any company can contact eBay and ask them to remove particular listings where their items are sold, regardless of the authenticity of those items. In other words if Disney wanted to nip it in the bud, they could. I'm sure they could have one higher-up at Disney have a 30 minute conversation with one higher-up at eBay, come to some understanding, and then employ one CM part-time to flag scrapper/counterfeit listings for removal. Those sellers could make new accounts, sure. But eBay will limit them to 10 sales a month on the new account. It wouldn't

That is true. Which is why They turn the other cheek all the time. It's aggitating knowing the hobby that is supposed to be fun is so full of flaws.
