As most of you know we are super avid collectors of Piece of Disney Movie Pins...

and next week will bring an end to what I personally feel were the best designed pins ever...

There has been numerous threads regarding the end of the series, but I would like to hear your thoughts on what will happen in the PoDM Market after next week...

Here are my thoughts and I wonder how yours differ or coincide with mine...

A) The end of this year brought lower PoDM prices than mid-year numbers were showing... I believe this has a lot to do with the holidays and budgets during them... If you were lucky enough to wait until later in the year to collect of few gems, you stood a very good chance of finding great deals...

B) The Hype - I believe the big PoDM Hype will taper off quite dramatically after the first of the year... Will this lower their overall desireability as traders??? No... not in my opinion... They will continuously get harder to aquire as all pins do in time... But you will see far fewer threads or discussions about them as time goes on...

C) Investing into great cells for fair prices will be at an all time high in 2-3 weeks... Why??? Because there will be tons of re-sellers who have been gathering these for 1 - 2 years and are finally going to have their completed sets to sell as a whole... How does this help us true collectors??? We will have the oportunity as a team of collectors to invest in good deals through what I am thinking will be dozens of Co-Op's for full sets...

D) How values will be affected... I believe you will see numerous releases dropping in their overall re-sell value during this time... A few will bounce back very very quickly... But there are many that with the extra abundance of PoDM's on the market will struggle to get back to what mid-year values were... But I do believe that All PoDM's will regain their current value come February or March and then begin to slowly rise in value to again reach what were mid-year values...

E) I feel a very important thing to do is establish values on these PoDM's that are fair on all cells in the package and work together to help each other to aquire great scenes... With properly coordinated Co-Ops we will all be able to benefit from what I believe will be a bountyful selection of PoDM's to aquire...

If they ever reboot this series like some people are saying they might in the future, the original 24 will be gold!!

I actually think only a few will be, the majority will peak out and remain there for quite some time... The Snow Whites and Tangled I think will always remain golden... Even moreso if a second run is ever added...

Even the hype dies and the market for them crumbles that's a win win for you and Rebecca. In a way aren't you glad it's kind of over because you and Rebecca can focus on the ones you want and not have to worry about future ones

Yes very glad... and you are right as far as us being able to be more selective now... I will still be doing what I can to help get Co-Ops completed with the extras nobody is wanting, since they are always fun prizes in my games... LOL... But there will be far fewer scenes that I will just have to have...

I think they will follow a similar pattern as the piece of history pins that started at wdw in 2006 and had a good run at dlr a few years ago. Most of the first run wdw 2006 poh pins are still hard to get (even though really only the 20,000 leagues pin will cost you because it was the first). For the most part, the poh pins that were the toughest to get a few years ago are still the hardest to trade for today, but I think that overall, their prices are less today than they were a few years ago. Really only a handful of the original wdw poh 2006 pins and a few of the DLR releases have held their $ value. It's not rare to find great deals on most poh pins today. I think the Snow White podm will remain high...no matter the scene, but I think the rest of the podms will have to be "grail" scenes to remain high. Also, since the 2nd year podm releases all had pretty good scenes, I see the 2nd year podms eventually staying between $30-$50 depending upon the movie and scene (unless it's the obvious "grail" scene).

It's this Thursday, December 6th :)

ohhh good, i am right. I got so confused cuz Moe said "next week" and it got me sorta paniced! lol

onto the topic....

A~I agree the price drop currently is due to the holidays, not due to demand. folks have other stuff to buy right now.
B~on the topic of decreased value. I think they WILL reduce in value. Some frames will stay highly sought after, the "grail" frames will hold value, but over all the going price or trade value of the more common frames is going to decrease... There are 2k of these things after all.
C~Agreed. Folks will have the full sets, and want to toss em on the market as complete sets. "Oh, i bet i am the only one doing it! they should sell great!" is a thought that might enter some minds....
D~ i am unsure if or when values might creep up or normalize. Part of me really thinks once they are no longer "the in thing" they will just fizzle out more. Especially if the next "in thing" is as pretty as these were.
E~ finding a nice, stable, easy, way to value these PODM is vital for collectors and traders. A year from now, i seriously doubt some of the frames that trade like LE100's will be worth that to a trader anymore. We need to find a standard bar of value.

I agree with a lot of what you said Moe. I will be interested in a co op for sure since there are still movies that I have yet to aquire. My signature isn't up to date, I am currently only missing 4...but I need more then 4 for my sons set and my daughters set as well!

I haven't been collecting long enough to know true market trends for pin collecting. I personally, as many of you know, sold a full set of PODMs. A few of them were considered to be really great scenes. Even though they were extras and not my main collection of scenes, I do regret getting rid of them.

The reality is... If prices drop, I now have funds available to purchase even better scenes than I had before and maybe even upgrade some of my main keeper collection!

I don't see these as being a bad investment at all, but I am just too green in this hobby to hold onto extra sets of pins.

I have been catching up on my Up and Stitch collections and those certainly aren't cheap and IMO are more stable investments.

I may have a completely different outlook in a few weeks though.

I will be buying any PODMs that I can find at a great price! I will not overpay for any scenes though.

I think the market will drop IF people are desperate enough to sell. Any type of market will drop because of desperation for money, not just pins. I think there are some established "holy grail" scenes in each of the PODM releases so that those may fluctuate, but not that much.

It's like those pesky Beloved Tales pins. The market peaked, then dropped, and is now back at its peak. If will probably have a few more times to drop. LOL

Like I mentioned in a previous thread, you never know what Disney is going to do. We have only seen 1 Artist proof and that was for Alice. We haven't seen any other ones(to my knowledge) or the Prototypes yet. So those are lurking around somewhere. And Disney could auction off a set at a future event with scenes totally different from what was released. You never know. It could happen.

I need, a few more little mermaids, tangled and a few more Batb, my daughter informed me a few days ago she wants the whole collection, where she had been only collecting her favorites. I'm kicking myself for trading my tangles, I had some of the most awesome scenes, but that was before I decided to collect podms and I was a brand new trader.

So count me in for coops please! I really need Belle in the snow, and Ariel with flounder and one with max, pascal, Flynn and punzel. (I had this scene once :( )

I've personally only had one (Snow White) and I kick myself every day for trading it. It was not a great scene, but even still, very hard to find. I did trade it to a little girl at Epcot for another nice pin for my collection out of her dad's pin bag, so that gives me joy knowing it went to someone that probably really loved and wanted it. Part of me is also glad I let it go otherwise I would be broke and stressed while trying to find all the scenes to have a set, so I guess it's good I let it go. I still kick myself though. :(

since we are mentioning what podm frames we need....

Dumbo: Zebra's.
Tangled: Max and Flynn, not the crazy grail ones, i saw one of just those two.
Mulan: with her horse, Khan
Cinderella: her horse Major.

Awwwww the end of the series.........?? i am wondering why when there are so many great movies left to do for the podm series. You mean NO nightmare before Christmas? NO wall-e?? No UP? These 3 and many more are worthy, wonderful movies! This does not seem fair to the huge fans of these masterpieces! Has any explanation been given as to why? I have to say I am crushed, as I was looking forward to it. I guess common sense was telling me that they would eventually do pods for them, since they have done almost all the other majors already. So bummed.

I hate when I collect things that go way down in value. I always buy what I want (not to make money off of it), but if I have moved on I want to be able to sell them for at least what I paid. I have lost a lot of money on Barbie collecting and now that I no longer want my Barbies (and have no room for them) they sell for nothing. So, I will have some heartache if the pins really go down.

That said, I am still wanting to collect certain scenes!:

-Rapunzel hair knot (Grail)
-Snow White looking like something just flew past her.
-Cinderella, any with her in it.
-Ariel at end of Part of Your World.

And so far I want to keep the ones I have!

I have 3 more of Mulan (at least) that I'd like:

Mulan w/make-up and Khan
Mulan w/reflection on sword
Mulan w/make-up and reflection (Chinese words in the temple) - she's singing "Reflection"

Then, Beauty & the Beast:

Beast with birds (maybe)
Belle holding mirror, walking away from Beast who is standing near the rose

Tangled

The hair scene (maybe)
