lol I see so many people post who's names aren't in the OP (which means they'll be approved and then put on most likely) and now I'm losing count of how many are involved or are going to be involved haha xD Can't wait!

i-i can't decide if i wana play or not :< is it possible for me to like.. pre-submit a podm to see what colored category my pre-submitted podm will be in before finalizing my decision on if I want to play or not? hope that makes sense...

I think you should tweak the grade levels. So many PODM's fall into the $25-$75 category you need to break that area up a little. Something like $25-$40 (Lonseome ghosts, pluto's christmas, bad Mulan, etc. and $40-$75 (better mulan, mid-aladdin, junk tangled, good pluto's christmas, etc.) or something like that. I won't be playing in this game because the people grading the pins don't know as much about them as they should. Just quickly checking eBay sold items isn't the answer. Goofy and anothermadhatter fan know, and pin-a-colada does too, that the body angle, how much face, exact split second of a scene can make it worth twice that of the scene just .5 seconds after in the movie. Good luck to all. Maybe I'll do a game that is back down to earth for the rest of us.

Mark,

You defintely bring up some good points and want to start off by saying I appreciate that and you as a DPF member. We thought about breaking down PODM's even further but it can make the game more complicated and this limits the members span of play into what PODM's they can open and or steal during the game. We also know that on any given six month period PODM's can increase and / or decrease in value.

No one here has ever claimed to be PODM expert. We are however are very knowledgable with PODM's and can assess rarer PODM's and harder to obtain PODM's as with many who have a love and passion with collecting such beauties. I own most of the PODM's on page one of this game thread so I know what harder to find PODM's look like.

You bring up eBay as if that is our only go to for assessing value. Please understand that is not the case, far from it. eBay is just a base (a good one none-the-less) in assessing general knowledge and a base price for a PODM. We do have to use eBay as an initial gauge because most general collectors of PODM's can only use that as a reference. If someone put's up a PODM for this game we do go in the site as a percentage of how a PODM is valued. If a collector put's up a commonly seen PODM and tells us he/she values it at $100 and every last sold PODM on ebay has it at $35 then there is a disconnect there. So again, eBay is a good starting point.

Our knowledge expands far further then just a selling site. Our knowledge comes from the fact that we have traded PODM's extensively with other DPF members, mostly live trades at various events such as DLR, WDW, DSF, PTN event, and private events, etc. These live PODM discussions with this members increases our knowledge in PODM's over time. We are able to pinpoint details that the general public might not know. Our moderator Anothermadhatter owns over 75 PODM's and I own over 45 PODM's so we can attest to having some proficiency in collecting these types of pins. We are very keen in assessing body angles, facial features, partial characters, close up scenes as opposed to those farther away. etc. We are aware that this can increase the value to a PODM.
You bring up Goofy_Moe. We too have reached out to our beloved Moe on niche PODM's to get his advice. We do not go at this alone, we use our collective knowledge and the knowledge of our DPF members.

In the end this PODM game is to be fun for all. Can there be some trade risk in this game of course, no one knows what PODM they will end up with in the end. This is a big reason our DPF members are playing. It is the unknown that makes this game so much fun, what PODM will be revealed to them and what sought after PODM will be stolen during the game. I hope we were able to clarify a couple things for our members and hope that you are able to participate in our future games. Our wonderful Echo is hosting a Valentines.....Steal Shamelessly game in February. I hope to play in your future games because that is what makes this community so great that we can share our pins and knowledge with one another.

Pin-A Colada:

Wow over 45 PoDMs owned?! And AnotherMadHatter has over 75?!:bowdown:Wow I aspire to have a collection like that someday; I only have 6 and wish to attempt collecting more (key word... attempt lol)

I think these moderators were fair in their decisions of what category to place which PoDM where. I thought mine would fall into the Green category bc of how it was sold on Ebay, but mine went into the Purple category. Echo went out of her way to inquire with the moderators and she worked with me when I asked her about it. It's not just enter PoDM and bam! it's categorized without say; if u disagree they're happy to discuss with u and u have the option of not submitting it. That's what Echo offered me when I submitted mine.

I thought my scene was more expensive bc I was basing it off of Ebay price listings, but when I did my own research along with Echo I saw my scene sold anywhere between $75 to $140; now that's an annoying price discrepancy! haha I very quickly learned how crazy PoDM ranking and pricing can get even when the scene is so so (depending on which movie and whom ur talking to). At first I was kinda bummed at the rating but I trust these traders here. So far my DPF experience has been great and I have met some great people here already, so I have faith in these moderators' judgment and I know I won't be taken. Especially since they are basing their info on what sounds like a mixture of experience and input from other who have vast PoDM collections (I can't even imagine having over 45 to 75 PoDMs, soooo many scenes to look at @_@; ). Now that's doing your homework! :bigthumb:

Plus like they said they wish for people to enter PoDM scenes that they feel others would like too. So it's also up to us to enter in some good stuff so everybody will be happy no matter what they get. Plus a prayer to the Pin Gods for a PoDM/scenes u'd like to receive doesn't hurt either (at least that's what I'm doing) hahaha:rofl:

Ahhhh so excited and thank you to all the mods for hosting the game, it must require a lot of hard work! Even though I may not be a prominent trader that trades often, I've been on the forum for over a year and a half now and have lots of knowledge on PODMs as well, so please don't judge others so quickly by saying "they don't know as much as they should"

I have decided to pass this time. I do like the idea but the pin I would want to use is not available at this time. Maybe next time I will enter. Thanks for doing this and I do like the idea...

Excellent question. If come January 15th Anothermadhatterfan is the only red PODM submitted then he has stated he will go down another color either blue or green.

Just for giggles, oooohh's and ahhhh's if that happens can we see what scene it was? (Sorry I'm the super curious type; I always do this playing poker w/ friends if they let me LOL)

When I am told in PM my pin is worth $32 or $37 because that is what it last sold for on eBay and it was not the exact scene I have then yes I am justified in my statement. My Mulan scene is different than the ones they pointed out. Anothermadhatterfan has seen it in person and advocated on my behalf to have it put in the 2nd category but it was denied. Goofy_Moe saw it at DSF during the Rapunzel PTD night stay and agreed it's over $60. I am not going to chance my $60-70 Mulan in the Sub-$50 group based, yes, on eBay sold prices as the valuing system. My Mushu scene is the exact moment he lands in the smoke and the smoke outlines his moustache and he has an evil look in his eyes. The pins that sold for under $40 are after he has already turned/moved and the smoke is different. I've seen my exact cell sell for $80 in the last few months.

If the pricing brackets were more evenly distributed to the actual need then I would enter. Sub $50 covers just too much junk. There needs to be a distinction that seperates a moderate LM ~$50 from a Lonesome Ghost ~$25. $40 is a good barrier. So do $0-$40, $40-$75, $75-$125, $125-$200, and $200-$275, $275+. Or something closer to those ranges. That better suits PODM pricing. I think this is an elitest game and they are trying to find elitest cells and the bottom rung category is jammed up too much and really just an afterthought that turned into something more than the game creators wanted it to be. Obviously if you have a ton that are right on the cusp it would be better to draw a line down the middle and categorize them better.
