I was wondering, if something like this is OK, allowed, Kosher, good pin karma, however you want to say it:

A while back I had a Beloved Tales Tangled pin up for auction, and I got some great bids. I got my hands on a second one a little after that, and I started a new auction, but I was wondering, could I have gone back to the previous bidders privately via PM, like those in 2nd and 3rd places, who were real close to first place, and offer them the new pin at the bid they placed without doing another auction?

By that extension, if a person saw an auction from someone else going for a pin they had, would it be OK to contact the non 1st place bidders after the auction ends and the winner declared to see if they might be interested in trading for what they bid?

Recently, there were a couple of auctions that had multiples available of the same thing, or they tried to add a second/third multiple to make it where instead of 1st only winning, 2nd and 3rd also had a shot, so it got me thinking, similar to what E-Bay calls the "Second Chance Offer" where a seller has the same thing in multiples, and instead of doing another auction, offers the 2nd highest bidder the item at the price THEY bid, not what it won for.

I don't see a problem with any of this. The only thing to keep in mind is that these would be trade OFFERS, and the bidders would absolutely have the freedom to say 'yes' or 'no' to the trade.

I myself have thought about this when I see an auction come up for a pin in my traders. I watch the bids, and think if I would be willing to make an offer to the non-winners (AFTER the auction ends, of course). It just hasn't happened yet...

Good questions. I'm interested to see what others have to say.

I have done just that thing in a few auctions where I had multiples. as long as you understand it is an offer to trade and they can accept or turn you down then it is Ok.

excellent question!!!!!

As of now there is nothing in the rules to prohibit this, however as was mentioned, if you go to "non winners" with an offer, they may feel like they were being "cased" or scoped out , caution and carefull wording would probably be the best tact.
I will post this to the mods admin list to ensure there are not problems, however I agree the offerer has final say in a case like this not the auctioneer as usual, just sayin keep it in mind.

Bill the words from way on high say this,,,,,
yes!!!! Yes you can offer it but on a trade basis,[ IE Second place finishers will have final say on yea or nay to the trade,] if that is upheld then the PTB<powers that be> have no problems with this,
thank you for a great questioin again!!!!

PS,,,,As long as you are the host of the auction<no sniping someone else's auctions please>

This may make it into our first rules addendum ,,,,Thanks!!!!!
